  • I visited Oban back in October 2007 during a car-trip around Scotland. It was a really nice place with nice open people. We were there exactly the night it was the World Cup in Rugby so it was a lot of people who were out and drank just like we did..

  • But it's ok and I don't want to move :P

  • I live there and it's kinda boring

  • We have work to do, haven't we?

  • @FossUlrich ??????

  • Damn My name is Oban, i didnt know there was a place called by my name lol pretty cool!!!

  • these pain in the arse seagulls still abound in Oban!

  • @Foomphei well I spent a fortnight in and around Oban in August and have to say it didn't disappoint me...... maybe I see what want to see, I dunno.....

  • This is a good upload..interesting ! Many thanks

  • I live here and its terrible.

  • Sadly there was no luck for me in Scotland, had a bad time of it when I was there. Yet nothing can mar the memory of the sunset in Oban. The most beautiful sunsets I ever saw in my life. Thank you for sharing!

  • Well, remember, after a sunset will always come a sunrise! Hope it will lighten your life forever.

  • @Euterperocks thats true about the sunsets, hope all is ok now......from scotland

  • I Live in Bonny Oban !!!! i <3 It

  • Lucky you!

  • @ThePinkDaggers Nothin bonny about Oban now! the piers a bloody mess and the stations isn't much better, looks like the sort of shit commonly found in blackpool! By the time tony liar's new treason party has finished skanking the place up with houses for England Oban will look like Easterhouse of the North!!

  • @morearrows Its because of all the tourests and the young people here

  • @Skeet1967 No it isn't,There are tourists and young people all over Scotland, its due entirely to criminal mis management on the part of the ruling party! they have nether love nor appreciation for the place, it's location or it's history, This once beautiful town is a national disgrace, and rapidly becoming worse, the Argyle Hotel is known by people from all over the planet, many of whome will mourn it's loss but hopefully be on hand to aid & cheer the departure the wretches who'd see it gone!

  • @morearrows Its because of all the tourests and the young people here

  • I was going to Rockfield primary school when this was filmed, I was 9 lol.

  • Was there a couple of weeks ago for one night, pubs dead and an attempted muder that night, not the quiet fishing village it was, more like Glasgow up North, would be nice to keep it as a tourist resort and get rid of the local council houses with their drug issues.

  • great idea retiring to oban just watch the roads there murder for the police the bugers hide every where

  • I plan to retire to Oban in 25 years time, the place soothes my soul , I love it! Great video!

  • Mind you, I'm told that it has changed a lot! And in 25 years' time even more!

  • We are visiting again this year and plan to do so for many more.....

  • Where did you dig this up this was 6 years before i was born there

  • This was filmed by me 55 years ago. See my profile.

  • Oban is not in the north of Scotland....It is in Argyll on the west coast and is actually farther south than Dundee.(just).

  • You are right. Thanks for the correction. I have updated my description accordingly.

  • Im not surprised that the Argyll Hotell may be torn down... It will probably make way for some modern flats that have no place in the town centre.

I lived in Oban for 8 years.. 6 of which were spent in a rented croft (which foundations dated back to 1664) that was demolished to build a 'bungalow'.. The council are nothing but a bunch of back-scratching, ball-washing, pocket -lining bastards.

  • Just so you know the Argyll hotel is still standing. but alot has changed over the years :-)

  • who owned it last...???? and why does it seem to be the only buisness in the town not to keep ticking over..someone once said the guy that let taht go down the pan is on the local licensing board..However its nice to see the railway pier and esplanade in its original glory...thanks

  • Alan McKie owned it and sent it down the pan. Couple of weeks later he's driving a 50grand Range Rover. The man is on the licensing board and a total bastard into the bargain.

He now owns the 'Tartan Tavern' across from the cinema.

  • is that the same guy who owns the lorne?

and is he really reopening the oban inn?

  • Not any more, Declan and Debbie Curran own the Lorne now.

There is talk now of the Argyll being demolished and rebuilt due to the structural integrity of the building being unsafe but we'll see how that pans out. The local planning office will have the final say even if building control issue demolition warrants. It's only a category C listed building so they might get to raize it and rebuild.

  • i worked the oban inn in the year of 1989!

  • I spent many a happy evening in the Oban Inn I am so sad to hear what has happened not only to it but to Oban....Progress is not always a positive thing!

  • oh but the Argyll Bar and that whole building is all borded up and closed now, it has been for as long as I can remember, its a shame cause its such a pretty building

  • The Argyll has been closed for about 9 years or so and the Oban Inn pub which is next door, right on the corner has also closed within the last couple of weeks. The Argyll was recently bought over and there are plans to re-open it again sometime in the future.

  • wow! my mum wasn't born when this was filmed, my granparents would have been there though. That's so cool it still looks so similar.

  • I was at Oban High School in 1955

  • Many thanks for posting this. The group of evangelists are from the Faith Mission not the Salvation Army who came to Oban later. I would have been six when this film was shot and Queen's Park Place was a favoured spot for outdoor mission. If my memory serves me MacTavish's Kitchen was then Huttons shoe shop . Many thanks again.
