If you Google the lyrics to this Leonard Berstein/Betty Comden song you will see that it originally said,"New York is a helluva town" I guess that they changed it to wonderful to avoid controversy. The Longshoreman at the beginning of this clip is a S-T-U-D !
@mustangred It's all in the way it was presented here, it pre-dated MTV with all the quick cuts. The idea was probably to wow you with so many images of the city in such a short time. And I wouldn't be surprised if many of the landmarks here are no longer around, the subway cars in particular have changed. Plus the idea of shooting all this on location was a new idea, things like this would've been shot on a studio backlot. I think that was Gene Kelly's idea
@winzip123 Bern was our cousin. What an amazing character actor he was. Also check the movie versions of Guys and Dolls, Kismet and Lil Abner. He was also the bartender on Bonanza .

@Hyman74Roth Endlessly catchy song, they must've had a blast doing this one song alone. The best advertisement ever for New York City,

Fascinating to see color footage of New York from so long ago.

@Viracocha88 Why is it "fascinating"? There's a shit load of color footage of NY, from this and much much earlier periods.
