That's true. He really didn't have to learn that revolutionary double mctwist to win gold. He won it without doing the first run at Vancouver. He just did it on his victory lap, showing he will still risk it all even if he doesn't have to.
I guess it's like a kid who may still do the extra credit assignment even if he was garaunteed an A in the class.
