Ben's kit, some guitars and synths and samplers were lost on the preceding flight. Thats why Ben is on the mini kit with no cymbals, Chris was straight to DI, the hired keys were out of tune etc... Dan's voice had gone... way too early in the morning... The best part is Dan dealing with the anchor, i thought he did a great and hilarious job.

The host and Dan were both fine he is just naturally soft spoken and shy in interviews. That is part of his charm. Their chemistry was on the same wavelength people let's not overanalyze the shit out of them. Geez......Just enjoy the music.

Considering how these generic morning shows usually are (they certainly aren't music-oriented), she was pretty well-informed and asked reasonable questions. Yeah, she's got that annoying broadcaster voice, but most of 'em do. These shows aren't for rabid fans, they're for the casual listener -- it was an effort to widen Silverchair's audience, so I think you'd be happy. :-)

In any case, it's a great song.

I was searching for "Straight Lines live" on Youtube and found this. I'm from Atlanta and have watched this show when I've been up early enough (5-7am?). Silverchair are BY FAR the best band to ever grace this television studio. Believe me. They usually have on artists that your 55-year-old aunt would be into. (Think local Barry Manilow or Michael Bolton wannabes). Anyway, I haven't watched this vid yet b/c I was THAT shocked to see they played this show. Ok, back to viewing...

I totally agree with you. They deserve so much more for having 5 #1 albums in Australia. Ben needs cymbals for his drum set, it would help capture the magic of the song. They look so sick of playing that song. There is so many better songs off of Young Modern.

It's called a Go-Kit. It's so that he doesn't overpower the song with percussion.  This is a small set on a morning show, not a stadium.

The whole thing's kind of toned down for that reason.

I was at their very first American tour concert in Portland (July 19) after they had canceled all those shows in L.A. cause of Daniel's laryngitis, and he sang it flawlessly. This video was posted just a few days after that concert... apparently he can't sing in the morning, haha. I think he's getting better as their tour goes on, though. But I agree, it's his fault he can't sing his own song.

Holy shit. No one ever realises how integral the key is to setting up a perfect emotional and mental image. Probably not for you or me on morning TV, but certainly for tonnes of people, including Johns who wrote the damn thing. If it wasn't in the key it's in now, the album would not sound as cohesive and impactful as it does now. He's never admitted to being foremost a vocalist, only a creator of MUSIC so stop slamming people for making up their own mind about what to do with their own work.

If you're referring to the show at the Roxy, it was the same day since she says, "you can pick up Young Modern tomorrow." The Roxy show was the 23rd and the album came out the next day (the 24th). As for them staying in a hotel the night after the show, I don't know how true that is seeing as they arrived at the show and left the show on their tour bus.
