This was a true statement-song about things that were happening with them [Devo] at the time. Things were not going well. They toughed it out, but don't be fooled that this is some bluesy love song; it was a tune that they were playing [as they like to say now] as "the house band on the [music biz] Titanic." I love them, and this song, for what they went through.

i wish there was more... This sounds exactly like the version from the live album "Now It Can Be Told". I don't care for this version of the song, or the first three tracks on that live album, but they made me laugh so I'd like to see them, and not just hear them!
I was never particularly fond of "Now It Can Be Told". I guess I prefer the bootleg live sound of the late 70's/early 80's the most...Even their live recordings today seem only a memory of what was.
This is great- thanks for posting. One of my most memorable concert experiences was seeing the NJ show on this tour. I like the "lounge" tunes they started with, but can't wait to see some of the rockin' footage when you post it!
You're right. It's a poor mix typical of live performances in general. But what I'm noticing is the "lounge treatment" of this song being particularly unappetizing...

This is not to diminish how cool it is that you shot and still have the footage of this concert, but that's the worst version of Going Under I've ever heard and there's some bad covers of it on youtube...
Not sure if it was intential or a phase for them, but this was the first devo toured in awhile (4 yrs being ~25% of your life @ 18) At the show in Chicago(Metro)they started with these slowed up loungey songs and you were thinking, what is this???, then "bam!" shortly after this song they came to life. For a lot of us on the new wave cusp, this was our first Devo show and I can still recall the whole thing nearly 20 years ago(11/3/88). I still love the live album they put out on this tour.
I recall when I saw them on this tour that Mark explained why they were all sitting down ... "to prove that we still can after [this many] years in this business." (From interviews, this was apparently the album where he felt they had the least control over what they created, and thus the one he enjoyed least at the time.)
PLEASE!! UPLOAD ALL THE FINAL SUITE!!!
I CAN`T DIE WITHOUT WATCH DISCO DANCER IN THAT TOUR!!!

80's was the best area of Devo, and in 1988 they make their best live record, even if their todays shows are rocking like never.
Thanks for this video Monrovia, we want more...

Now It Can Be Told is great and all, but I want to see the whole show. It looks like it's in amazing quality for what it is.
