zeus7623 has made a comment on ADHD: A Real Disease but a False Epidemic:
It seems par for the course to diagnose children (now adults) for adhd. Why? Money in treatment. Also adults can easily fake symptoms to obtain the drugs for a various uses, not of which are medically sound.
ADHD is BULL$HIT... PERIOD, because otherwise everyone who lives on this planet would have ADHD because all little kids are hyper. Unless their parents are disciplined towards them while they are young. Also, how do you really know whether or not someone is actually paying attention? Unless you are some psychic with superpowers, the only way to know if that person you are communicating with is paying attention to you is by reading their mind.
@Coasterfan87 : I find hard to agree with your opinion because even little children can tell when adults are not paying attention to what they are doing or saying. Maybe you should discuss this issue with some trusted friend to hear an unbiased opinion. ADHD is real but the attributed % of presentation is a big lie.
Apparently the user Ro3ox has been trying to post a comment. I encourange him or her to try again because an intellectual discusion is always welcome.
on ritalin i was wayyyyy more argo i would black out for 3 days at a time and wake up in jail becuz i beat ppl and my dad got beat up by a 6 year old me hes tuff mma kinda guy and i blacked out and he was in the hosbiltal i was on it for 6 weeks befor rethinking the meds now im on oxcarbazepine (150)mg 2x a day and geodon (60)mg 2x a day i have been on this combo for 6 years im 18 now and doing well im bypoiler too these work great
It must be said again: ADHD is a real disease discredited by an artificial epidemic. The overdiagnosed ADHD does not change its reality. This situation is similar to the exagerated statistics on Autism which not even Dihle2 would deny that it is a real illness...or will you?
load of crap first of all hyper kids is not from adhd what about the rubbish there parents feed them and then the parents themselves proven fact most kids with add or adhd come from single parents mainly mothers to many excuses now days defiant disorder crap lack of disapline more like it
dihle12 (3 days ago) well for starters there are no vaild tests for either of these so called disorders its all a matter of opinion and how come years ago there was no such thing all of a sudden millions of children have it load of crap proper direction and disapline and stop feeding the drug companies and goverment money oh by the way i class medicating children with these tablets as child abuse
adhd is over diagnosed if only one percent of children have it then why are there some many kids on meds adhd is a load of shit there is no medicla evidence that it is real its only a matter of opinion and a money making scheme which the drug companies and goverment love i have 2 words child abuse thats all it is giving children drugs like that how bout trying diet disapline and direction it really works
Well Dihle, you have the right to an opinon but it will be nice if you could provide the evidence evidence supporting your statement. I have seen many children and adults turning their life around with the ADHD treatments. One thing is overdianogsing an illness and another is to deny its existance. A diabetic cannot lower the blood sugar with will power and an ADHD person cannot control impulses and pay attention without medications.
Dihle12: We disagree but I like your interest in mental health. You should go to the NIMH website and see how many test for mental illnessess do exist. Also keep in mind that to diagnose apendicitis we don't need a test. We the history and physical exam we can be 99% accurate. Illnesses have symptoms and signs. Think of that and try to put your anger aside and look at this issue objectively.
It will be good for you and those that believe in you.
On more thing Dihle 12: Mental illness is not a new thing: Hippocrates described Mania & Melancholia (BC) and in 1847 J. E. Esquirol (French) reported mania in children. Before 1900 Kraepelin (German) presented cases of "Manic-depressive Insanity." So check this information out and then make an informed opinion.
Thank you Dihle12 for your comment. Could you elaborate more on your statement? I oppose the amount of cases Dx with ADHD but I believe 1% of school-age children has it. Still it will be interesting to see what kind of evidence you have to disprove the validity of ADHD.
We both agree on the poor quality of psychiatric treatments in many areas. yet, I am perplexed by your statement. I treat many ADHD many patients but I question the 7% prevalence rate given to ADHD. I have strong evidence showing that 8 out of 10 patients Dx with ADHD have a different condition. I can say the same about the use of antidepressants in bipolar patients: it is like a poison and time will tell. Many will die or suffer emotional pain before the truth conquers the power of money.
MrXSpeaks wrote:There are just not enough people getting good mental healthcare and those that do have to fight ignorance and stigma. There are many adults with ADHD , BD and BPD that never get treated and end in poor status for nothing. ADHD denial really makes me angry, because it contributed to my personal suffering. Say what you want about ritalin and adderall, but I wake up wishing I had been Dx and given speed by junior high. I know you have not walked a mile in my shoes.
There is evidence that it is underdiagnosed. there is no evidence that it is overdiagnosed. the people who believe that it is overdiagnosed do not understand research they just judge.
Treadysparrow: I have evaluated thousands of patients Dx as ADHD who had mood, anxiety and even psychotic disorders. In most cases Drs. overlooked a family history of the same illness the child had. Furthermore, it is safer to err on the "non-ADHD" side because if a nervous, violent or psychotic person takes an amphetamine the outcome could very bad...Given a mood stabilizer to an ADHD person only delays treatment but causes no harm. My view is based on published data. What supports yours?
I agree that adhd is currently a "popular" diagnosis. Probably overdiagnosed. This creates a problem not only for those who are wrongly diagnosed, but also for those who actually have adhd.
The antipsychiatry movement, who claim that all mental illnesses are imaginary, use this to fuel their disturbing and disgusting views.
Thank you Ekorre33 for your interesting comment. I share your concern about fueling the arguments of the antipsychiatry fanatics. The overdiagnosed ADHD provides them with plenty of "poor outcomes from psychiatric treatments." This why I fight for accurate diagnoses and the importance of looking at family Hx: Two bipolar don't produce an ADHD child and THERE ARE MANY REASONS TO BE HYPER. Some of them, i.e., anxiety and bipolar get worse on amphetamines.
there is evidence that it is underdiagnosed. there is no evidence that it is overdiagnosed. the people who believe that it is overdiagnosed do not understand research they just judge.
Can anybody explain America's infatuation with ADHD. Is there any other medical area in which a doctor's patients are diagnosed with the same disease?
Why nobody seems to care about the damage caused to those misdiagnosed children when they are exposed to a substance similar to cocaine? This is the worse part: they are blamed when their behavior worsen because of wrong diagnosis. Where is the American Psychiatric Association?
Thanks Johnny. I understand you meant "all" the doctor's patients. I wonder how the public would react if physicians from other specialties diagnose their patients with the same diagnosis. Imagine an oncologist whose patient only have Leukemia or Melanona? Everybody will complaint...why not in psychiatry or pediatrics?
Dear JamMaster: Thank you for confirming my opinion: Individuals with REAL ADHD do not get a high on amphetamines. Even pure cocaine will calm them down. Maybe it will be in your best interest to get the right diagnosis because if you have bipolar or anxiety your symptoms will get worse. Thank you for your comment.
I wish some psychiatrists will watch this video and maybe they will start to consider another diagnoses, besides ADHD. My child was labeled ADHD and ODD and years she got poor grades and had to be hospitalized twice. All because of some doctors stubborness. Children's interests should put first, not the physician ego.
Your comment transpire honesty and courage. I wish other viewers will talk about their beliefs regarding this important issue. We should give emotional issues the relevance they deserve, otherwise some school Principal will go on TV to claim that genetically coded behavior can be changed with paddling...I wonder if they paddle a 17 year-old, 250 lbs. youth with unruly behavior? Can a diabetic's blood sugar become normal with paddling? Are brain genes different? Give me a break!
