  • just like many Black groups and singers of the 60's, 70's and 80's, racism kept them from being the true legends they should have been. but, they are legends in my heart and soul. people my age are glad so many young people understand good music. thank you, guys.

  • love this song so many memories

  • Erykah Badu's presentation of this song was an amazing piece of homage (if it was the original intent)

This group was amazing...simply a treasure to all real music lover's

  • After seeing UNSUNG,im so in love with Sharon Bryant's voice.Just so beautiful......

  • simply smooth stepping

  • Saw the story on UNSUNG! Too bad they couldn't work past their differences and stay together! I love Atlantic Starr!

  • i used to jam this LP in my mothers room - early 80's i was in second grade - diggin on Sharon Bryant!!! real singer. when i really dig the music i always read the album credits...................you would be surprised what you may learn even today. Background singers really enchance the featured artists vocal stlye and ability. Check out Anthony Hamilton "Since I Seen You" the guy that backs him is as awesome as he is

  • Unsung, really shed light on Atlantic Starr's rise and fall from fame. It is a must see on TVOne. This is my all time favorite song by Atlantic Starr.

  • ok now this is the 3rd song by Atlantic Starr that has been later remade; i tell you people, this group had an effect on r&b singers & groups more than i ever knew or realized

  • Erykah Badu redid this song

  • @TheLaLasProductions and she did a great job...yes, she did... :o)

  • I loooooove Sharon Bryant's voice. It's so rich and supple and just...I don't even know.

  • N!!!CE

  • You can watch the Unsung episode online at tvone.tv

  • I know that "Always" & "Secret Lovers" were their biggest Pop hits but this was them at their best. None of the female singers could touch Sharon Bryant's voice.

  • Agreeing with all the great comments about Sharon Bryant. I love her "hits" the best. More soulful, less pop and that's what I prefer!!

  • @blackwoman3839401 absolutely it seems when they get whitened up it loses it flavor need I say more and becomes generic as hell.

  • @blackwoman3839401 I so agree! I preferred Sharon also but the Barbara led songs were great too.

  • Loved the Sharon Bryant period!!!!!!

  • You can't duplicate the original. Sharon Bryant has a voice that the most closest to Chaka Khan. I used to think that it WAS Chaka that sung some of these songs. Sad about how it all went down, but the music lives on..Just hope that all that were in the group got compensated for all of their contributions to the Atlantic Starr's authentic sound.

  • Barbara had a great voice and it was great for those pop ballads they made. And they had great success. You can pretty much plug any decent singer in to sing those songs. But Sharon is just something special. Not sure who if anybody could pull off her songs.

  • I love this group!

  • I agree MsTempest22, the original group was all that!!

  • I really don't know how good-great singing group with such great songs could be forgotten about, a shame. :3(

  • SHARON BRYANT, ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Completely forgot about how many memories Atlantic Starr's songs brought. Growing up during this era in NYC, AC's songs were in heavy rotation, CONSTANTLY!!!!!!! Magical memories of the early part of that decade and a great soundtrack to go along with it.

  • I watched Unsung lastnight!

  • Man the early Atlantic Starr had the cuts.

  • sharon bryant best singer ever love you

  • Chillin back n the 80's in Waco, tx. High School!!

  • Ha. Didnt even know who sang this til NOW?!? Bless up You Tube

  • I still have this song in rotation in my car. It provides therapy after a long/hard day at work.

Not taking anything away from Barbara Weathers, but Sharon Bryant's voice was awesome and she sung the hell out of this song. Watch for this group on UNSUNG in January 2012!

  • @onemeanscorpio I agree I liked Barbara's voice, but I loved Sharon's!

  • @eastbrookmusic Yep--Sharon Bryant--HANDS DOWN!! Hope you saw Unsung this week, because the real story was revealed. Their songs was funky when Sharon was with the group. Then when Barbara joined the group - they turned "poppish". We won't even discuss those other fly-by-night female members---LOL!!

  • @onemeanscorpio ..I'll admit I like both Sharon and Barbara (though at the time I was more familiar with Barb since I was a small child when Sharon led). As I went back to the Sharon led songs, I found appreciation that they were able to change sound because even this song is drastically different from their 1st album. Barb was more pop R&B which was needed to compete back then, so I liked her. After she left, I couldn't get into the other ladies.

  • Honestly I think the group had hits after Barb left only because by that time they were a known group. If any of the ladies after Sharon & Barbara had been with the group when they were unknown and unsigned, Atlantic Starr/Newban would still be rehearsing in a garage somewhere.

  • @daretosayit Really? I don't remember any hits after Barbara left. I have been a die-hard fan of this group since their very first album and I can't recall one hit after Barbara Weathers left the group. Maybe I missed it-- because the other ladies could not "PUT IT DOWN" like Sharon and Barbara. But that's just my opinion!

  • @onemeanscorpio - The album after Barb left had My First Love (charted R&B at #1 or close to it); next album had Masterpiece, charted both pop and R&B in the top 3. Both songs were led by the Lewis brothers and frankly the ladies at that point were probably for background props since the public was used to them having a lady in the band. I still to this day have not listened to either song in entirety because I stopped listening to them after Sharon & Barb left. I'm with ya! lol

  • @onemeanscorpio Sorry, but Barbara was the best of the still added female vocals this band has ever or will ever have. Thank you. :)

  • @1MSSHAME Barbara had a beautiful voice, but in MY OPINION Sharon had the best voice and most of the hits were created when Sharon was in the group---and I Thank You too!

  • @onemeanscorpio OK, let's just agree that we both have good taste in music. Take care!

  • @1MSSHAME You bet we do!

  • @1MSSHAME ..I'm going to start a Facebook saying bring back the REAL R&B Soul Music. Young people need to know what real love songs are. Not something I heard about "baby come over and get that condom out the drawer"..oh please. The lady on Unsung said they might have lost their appeal because their songs were too "sappy" next to rap and hip hop. So what, let's bring back the sappy songs. Real music, real singers who make me happy or bring tears to my eyes, real instruments. Thanks Unsung.

  • real nice song it puts you in the mood to do things.

  • I close my eyes and I'm back in the day...cutting blocks on the streets of Las Vegas...good music--good days--good times......

  • This song is soooo bumpin' but good!

  • This lay back music with u and your mind. You can go any where.

  • riding on the back roads of South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi listing to this

  • @tlc496 aye big ups to u riding on the back roads of Alabama listening to this. Im from Alabama and this is some good music to listen to when you're just cruising with no set destination.

  • this is riding music

  • man this is that joint

  • I just saw this group on Soul Train episode from 1978 but this was a completely group from the one in the 80s with those cross over big hits. What happened to the original group??

  • Still one of my favorite cuts. Smooth as silk.

  • Three people simply don't have any taste when it comes to soooul music !!! This song is a Jam. Yeeeah!!!

  • the 3 people who dislike this song probably think atlantic starr copied the song from erykah badu although atlantic starr version came out 15 years before her version. my 2nd favorite song by atlantic starr out of at least 20 of their songs

  • to my boo kasey watts , government, love it or leave it in it alpha-omega

  • it is a shame how this group has been so slept on.

  • @MrGriffitz Yes and they aren't alone plenty of groups and single artists from the 80's have been slept on.

  • @MrGriffitz And the 4 ppl who dislike this classic were among those who were related to RIP VAN WINKLE

  • GREAT harmonizing. takes me back to those house parties in JA.

  • 80's R&B <3

  • where have these days of real R&B gone!

  • Now see.. y'all dont know nothing bout this.. Silver Shadow, Circles, If your heart isnn't in it.. WOW.. these kids are lost.. keep it real..... Real music.. Play it..

  • one of my favorites.....gotta love the 80's love songs!!!!

  • im 10 i <3 it

  • reminds me of "soul corner".

  • 9th Wonder sampled this... Swann Notty - Most Official

    What a Beautiful song

  • Damn Atlantic Starr had some damn hits!!

  • @bigstanklady they sure did!!!

  • xoxo

  • az sample this song. life on the line check it out people!

  • This has that distinct EARLY 1980's sound, like a cross between the late 1970's and mid 1980's. excellent music!

  • now this is real r&b at its best!

  • now this is music

  • Yes...

  • I grew up listen to Atlantic Star. The 80's was a good decade.

  • Comment removed

  • How could you dislike this cut. This is a timeless classic right here. I remember when my parents brought this album home. Why don't music sound like this no mo' y'all?

  • Man, this song STILL sends a chill up my spine!! A.S. never had a bad record as far as I'm concerned!!! As far as Sharon Bryant is concerned, what can you say????

  • Love this!

  • Ahh so this is where Erykah Badu got this track from. Can't decide which one I like best but this one is fantastic.

  • @64spenser me either I love both versions!! I keep switching between the two, like after I play this one I will go to Erykahs version lol.

  • white plains ny

  • You say sharon bryant...I say SHARON BRYANT!!!

  • The bass-line is smooooth. Love this song, on a cloud...

  • Sharon Bryant made Atlantic Starr. Not that songs like "Always" after she left weren't good, because it was, but Sharon could not be matched.

  • @ewiz06 Agreed! The songs and the way Sharon saang (yes saang) them made me a fan for life since the early 80's. I'm partial to female singers though.

  • does anyone remember an album the group put out in the last 10 years or so? I originally thought that TIME was the last to date and then I could have sworn some really underrated one came out after that. Thought I saw it in a store. The picture on the cover didn't show them too close up, maybe there was a change in members. Someone help please....

  • I love Atlantic Starr

  • One of the badest jams ever!

  • This was my Jam! This was a truly gifted group and I love this song. Thanks for the upload.

  • Man they don't make music like this anymore

  • the 2 people who dont like this song dont know music....

  • doesnt get any better than this 1982!!

  • Has TVONE featured these guys on UNSUNG yet? If so i missed it and would love to know what happened to them. This group had their pulse on the vibe in the blk culture/community. Very profound group out of a lot of the groups that were out back then.

  • This song is amazing, It makes u feel something when u hear it. Sad to see this style go away....

  • simple perfection

  • This Atlantic Star takes back all the way back to the 1980's grownig up i remeber & miss the 1980's!

  • ilove me some atlantic starr

  • this was the jam...

  • We Black People use to be so beautiful. Greed, drugs and lack of education have made us ugly. We are probably past the point of no return now.

  • @TheKingdoughnut -I totally agree with you.The madness seems to be getting worse as each passing day goes by. There is no more grandma's & grandpa's, no more uncles & aunts, no more respect to your parents, adults, & law enforcement. the shitty ass music that's being produced today promotes ignorance & thuggery. "getting yours" on the streets. drugs dealing thugs who don't know what school is. it's all about ''me'' selfish greed. selling out for a quick dollar. yeap i see & hear it all the time

  • @str8outtatexas1 ........it is a true tragedy. people don't know how to nourish each other's soul anymore. be a thug. and worse yet, be a low level, hyper violent, black people killin, thug. uneducated, easily controlled, heartless zombie.

  • @gghelo You're definitely right my friend.

  • @TheKingdoughnut im not even black but thats just one of the most ignorant things ive ever heard.

  • I am sad I've never heard this song before it is AMAZING!

  • Real Music!! Reminds me of dancing around the house with my daddy when i was younger!

  • respect to the original but I LOVED ERYKAHS VERSION MUCH BETTER

  • Music for the soul.

  • For a slow jam, that bass is vicious. At least, I think so.

  • Boy I miss real, I mean real black spiritual soul like this. What the heck happen to all of our spiritual soul?

  • @cheetie72

computers,no music education in school, and the ALMIGHTY "profit motive at any costs" philosophy!!!!!!!

  • love sharon dimples

  • ANOTHER WINNER FROM A GREAT AMERICAN BAND.

  • beautiful song love the ole school thats wat makes life alot more special is when you here music like this

  • BEAUTIFUL, Pure Soul

  • Gotta admit that the version Badu sings is much more familiar to me as she is my favorite female singer, but gotta admit that the woman singing in this has a very beautiful voice. And of course you always gotta give respect to the original songs.

  • @heavyloadmachine The lady's name is/was Sharon Bryant. Indeed, she was awesome.

  • I certainly loved Sharon Bryant, but Atlantic Starr didn't lose a step when she left and Barbara Weathers stepped in!

  • @MrElMatic1 you are exactly right! Barbara took the baton and represented extremely well! She too has unbelievble vocal skills.

  • When I hear the first couple of Atlantic Starr songs back in the early 80's...I said 'WOW". I felt then and I feel now that Ms. Sharon Bryant was annointed! She has what might just be the best voice I have "ever" heard. Talk about 'UnSung'.

  • i love atlantic starr

  • this song is the best!

  • SHARON BRYANT PURE ELEGANCE..IT GETS NO BETTER..

  • To me this was their best song of the early 1980's. Sharon Bryant was a true talent and beautiful voice. She did not get the credit that she deserve.

  • just great

  • Very smooth and very relaxing to listen too. I love this song so many memories.

  • there will neva be music like this again, they need to change what is r&b now to something else cuz it aint this...4real

  • Originality seems to be lacking these days in music, amazing how many of today's artist's have sampled tracks from the past, when i first heard this song years ago little did i know that Badu would sample it ( and she did a good job)...one of my fav's from Atlantic Star.

  • I NEVER KNEW ATLANTIC STARR SUNG THIS.. I HEARD IT ON ERYKAH BADU'S OLD ALBUM

  • wow , is this the original ? i am impressed love what Miss Badu did with this song ...she did it justice and still the original sounds special

  • A few good artist out today. Maxwell Calvin Richardson Anthony hamiliton. Problem is that the garbage sells as so does food thats not good for you.

  • This stuff is really good. Why is the most popular stuff of today not up to this quality?

  • @evergreenstater BECAUSE THEY HAVE NO TALENT. THE YOUNG IMMATURE PEOPLE THAT LISTEN TO THAT JUNK THAT IS OUT TODAY JUST DON'T KNOW ANY BETTER.

IT'S LIKE THEY DON'T WANT TO GROW UP. THE MUSIC THEY ARE MAKING TODAY IS LIKE THIRD GRADE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUFF MIXED WITH SOME IGNORANT SEX STUFF. THEY HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO CLASS, NO SOPHISTICATION, NO RHYTHM, NO SOUL, NO TALENT. THE MUSIC TODAY SUCKS. A LOT OF THESE SINGERS ARE YOUNG STUPID AND SILLY AND THAT INCLUDES THE 40 YEAR OLDS.

  • I am just like you evergreenstater I am a young old head most music of today will forgotten about

  • @iamsirdre I'm one of those young "oldheads". I'm 24 and I appreciate this stuff. I grew up old school stuff.

  • ONE OF THE SWEETEST AND MOST SENSUAL SONGS EVER MADE....IT IS SO, SO PURE

  • real pure r&b

  • Wow! I didn't know Ms. Badu redid this song... She did it justice.

  • this song......... your probably playing on the sofa with your wife you fill in the blanks ha

  • smooth..............

  • TWO"S DAY...Back to Back

  • One of my favorite r&b groups from the early 80's, silky smooth grooves ladies and gents.

  • Erykah Badu remade this song i love them both!! :)

  • They were in a class of their own with lots of hit ballards to appreciate.

  • Love this group,

  • This needs to be used in a movie.

  • Touch a 4 leaf clover cause St. Patrick's Day is coming up. LOL.

  • this was a nice ballad back in the early 1980's. i was in grade school when this came out.

  • Comment removed

  • Cool tune B side to Silver Shadow I may be wrong but it was a long time ago AA side even forget it just talking to myself.

  • Produced by James Anthony Carmichael (The Commodores, Lionel Richie). I like their early 80s work better than their crossover work in the late 80s although I like that period, too.

  • rest in peace aunting love you.this song the shit.

  • That's right touch a 4 leaf clover....!

  • This song is just crazy, Atlantic Starr always kicks ass!

  • this song go me through a lot thank god and the artistes for the memories

  • 2days music isnt music it is noise this is timeless

  • @clstbradley True that is clstbradley. New music has lost that deep african soul.

  • 9th did "Wonder" job sampling this beautiful song. LOVE the original, 9th version and erykah's!!!!

  • I won a Slot Radio From HappySlip and this song was on it...never heard it before but I really like it!!!

  • Even if you aren't the maudlin sentimental fool, Sharon's vocals take aim straight for the heart.

  • Another classic hit from 1983, Atlantic Starr had a string of hits in the 80's beginning with Sharon Bryant on lead vocals

  • yep! Atlantic Starr was one of my favorite bands in the 80's. Love their melodies and lyrics.

  • <
