I fell in love with the Pianoforte concerti by Joh. Christian Bach when I heard them played by Ingrid Haebler. Elegant, luminous and totally amazing! Too bad the CDs appear to be out of print...
I agree with some of below comments, in that it´s hard to find fault with such impeccable viennese school credentials ; even if we wanted to . But , I guess we don´t.
This performance seems rather uninspiring to me, but it is technically well done. Can't really put my finger on it. The sound quality is fantastic. The interplay between piano and orchestra just isn't good enough. Seems like the players are trying to treat this like one of Mozart's early concertos, when it actually is more akin to his very late ones. There is a lot of interplay going on that is lost in the steady and monotonous transmission going on here. Still, great playing, and 5 stars.
Haebler tends to play for her own enjoyment first, and sometimes that just does not work in a concerto? Still, every note is so meticulously crafted and totally in context with the 'big picture' that one cannot but admire her pianism and musicianship. There is so much to learn even from her uninspired performances.
@Sviolinist uninspired?? wow.... thats a poor choice of words to use. This interpretation is many things but uninspired is not one of them. Regardless, we can be thankful we have this document. This woman very much holds the key to true, faithful, proper, correct Mozart playing, along with Gulda, Badura-Skoda and some other vienesse pianists.
@tschaikowski I was referring to the orchestra, not the pianist. I ended with "great playing, 5 stars." Lol. The orchestra is playing this piece in a very uninspired manner, and that rubs off on the pianist. You can't respond to a dead orchestra. The pianist is great. I should have been more clear about this.

I've got her playing the Coronation on vinyl somewhere. It is my favorite performance but I havent put it on cd. A most elegant performer.

I think you're nuts (no offense!) I wish more Mozart was like this - 'unshow-offy', refined and elegant.

Agreed, this is the way Mozart should be played. I don't know if I've ever heard a more refined and elegant version.

@Sviolinist Lol??? Uninspired orchestra. Dead orchestra. Ridiculous comment. I am responding to a dead comment, indeed a waste of my time.
