This is marvellous. Authoritative, completely connected and intellectually equal to the demands of keeping the massive structure airborne, although she should repeat the exposition- the scale and intensity of the development absolutely demand it and takes on an extra dimension if it comes after the repeat. have never heard of Diane Walsh, but she is obviously a great artist and I must find out more about her.
@KnitKnots get into the habit of your right hand doing that then after you get it down, pay attention to your left hand as you play the notes so that way your right hand is passively playing the notes.

@hereyescio And you, you are nothing but a diarrhea stain on the panties of life. Go fuck yourself, you old queer, you shitty geezer, you scaly, diddly little snake shit face.
I cant say that i like this sonata as much as D960 or D958. However the finale of the 1st movement is extraordinary. I feel like It speaks of despair and darkness and tragedy without any hope for salvation. I get chills all over my spine every time i play it.
Bella interpretazione, dove secondo me è molto chiara la lezione di Richter -- sia nella scansione del tempo sia nel titpo di suono -- che con la sua straordinaria interpretazione della sonata si fece conoscere in occidente.
So, the "Moderato" of this song like this ? Woaw... it's really different with my "Moderato" if I play this piece. She play it to fast, i think ==" but it's still cool.
I have heard Walsh playing this Sonata one hundred times and I must admit that I like her interpretation feelings much better than Haskill, Klien, Richter and even Brendel. She definitely scored a 100% with this recording !

This is perhaps one of the greatest interpretation of this sonata I've yet heard. The cleanliness is wonderful, and she had great control in making this piece a perfect inbetween of a classical and a romantic piece.
Wonderful interpretation. Could anyone tell me where i could find an mp3 of this? I am playing this piece for my ATCL and would very much appreciate being able to listen to it often
So did I and I almost instantly decided to learn it. Although I can play the whole piece (with some errors) I still need to get a lot better on it, at least that's what I think.
I 'll borrow the account of my dear friend to send you this message. =)
believe me, it isnt that easy to play. When I learned this piece it was quite difficult. some parts are really easy to understand but there are parts where you have to watch out carefully what you do. Intepreting this song is hard aw well, of course are there already many examples but if you cannot imagine what he tries to say with this song you wont be able to play it like this cause it would hardly show any emotion.
There's no way that you could assume how I play. I'm not trying to cause some online fight, but I believe that whose ever account this is, you probably just said the wrong thing to support, once again, whoever account this is. I think you should rethink that statement that I just said, and consider what I was getting at. Not just declaring me as a horrible musician, which is what you just did.
agree. But all level of difficulty is relatively speaking. If you can play i.e. listz, rachmainoff, chopin etude, debussy etude, then the skills required for this piece is simple. But as a master pieice, still hard to play well. Kempff's interpretation is the best in terms of both skills and emotion while Lupu's is far worse than kempff's. Polini's is moderate between these two.
the touch that she has in her right hand between 3:27 and 4:07, is absolutely incredible. Im learning this piece now, and this phrase is without the most difficult. it is so gosh damn hard, and so beautiful at the same. I really hope to be able to play this section as beautiful as she did... some day. bravo man... bravo.
Her tempo is slightly faster then what the great Schubert master interpreters use, however through it she layers an unbelievable rubato throughout the entire piece adding an entire new dimension to the sonata. Truly amazing reading and interpretation!
Such a great rythm, is not too fast, and there is something in the way she plays this song that I could say is... magical? Anyway, is a reaaly nice song with a really good player.
hes correct. Calling this a song isnt technically correct in the classical music world, rather its a piece. I was in class once and my teacher asked me what i was going to play, and i said this song by chopin, and she said, so your singing? and i said no im playing a song and she kept on drilling me. It is a rare artist indeed who can play Schubert with so much expressive power while avoiding all excesses and indulgences. The Sonata on this video is available on CD and download. My copy is on the way. I can't wait!
yes its a slip on the octaves, very slight, as is the slight one on 3:58. It only goes to show that this is an unedited real life recordning, takes nothing away.
Wow, this is absolutely amazing. I've been working on this piece for a little while now, and I must say I come nowhere close to this. Of course I can only play about 2 minutes of it, (we had to shorten it for recital) but I do plan to learn the rest as soon as recital is over.
Brava Diane, I'm sure that Schubert was tapping his foot in his grave when she played this.
