compairing cattle grazing to feral horses is absolutly stupid...they are DOMESTIC ANIMALS PEOPLE they don not belong on our wild lands or any lands with out the care of humans...this guy is a complete idiot.."these horses are different than domestic" BULLSHIT! THEY ARE DOMESTIC HORSES!!! Have you ever drove the State of Nevada?, any person that tells you Nevada cannot handle the Wild Horses is lying to you. Cattle can be raised all over the country in any State. There is just a small amount of land in the country that have Wild Horses and these Lands should be kept for the Wild Horses. There is big money in a Rancher allowing Elk to run a Ranchers Land as the State gives them free Tags to sell making the Ranchers the Dollars, the Horses are a bother and compete with their cattle
I think all wild horses should be, not killed, removed. What true horse lover would want this lovely breed crowded into small areas where natural selection is stunted and in-breeding happens because there is no other course? Most mustangs these days hold very little in common genetically with their ancestors, and have quarter horse, draft horse, and other breeds thrown in to give genetic variety. Injuries and illness are left untreated. I have a better idea Let's create a breeding program. :D

How can anyone believe that 30,000 wild horses could be responsible for damage to the range when there are 10,000,000 cattle and half that many sheep out there too?
Mustang populations have been rounded up to the point where much of the land set aside for them by Congress in 1971 are empty of horses.
There are less than 150 wild horses in the entire state of Montana. Get out a map and tell me they are starving because there is no food for them. It is ridiculous.
all people who are commenting on this video are all stupid and think they kno so much about horses, when they dont, including the narrater of this video. and by the way cattle ranchors have lives and family to and depend on the cattle to support the ranch.
I read they put up thousands of miles of barbed wire fences and see in this vid all the barbed wire..horse killing fence!! Take down those thousands of miles of wire fence.. doesn't the BLM know this wire kills horses?
Call the White House Comment Line at (202) 456-1111. Leave a message: Stop the violent round-ups of America's wild free-roaming horses and burros and manage the mustangs on the range! Period!
WELFARE RANCHERS do not get to use taxpayer-funded FEDERAL agencies to remove America's horses from THEIR designated habitat so that ranchers can graze their 6-9 million head of livestock on PUBLIC land.
Shame on America. Shame on Obama! Get livestock off of PUBLIC LAND!
How can NevadaMustangs be so cruel - how can roundup with the use of helicopters be humane or right? They are healthy. Their land was supposed to be protected by an ACT instated to protect them. But like the Native American Heritage and promises from the federal government, white men are once again going back on their word! STOP THE ABUSE! FREE THE HORSES. BE HUMANE NOT ICONICALLY INHUMANE!
HERE ARE 9 MILLION PRIVATE WELFARE CATTLE WHOM OUTNUMBER OUR MAJESTIC WILD HORSES OVER 300-1.The BLM are liars -Wild Horses aren't starving, are not overpopulated and are actually good for the land-the BLM corrupt cowardly liars illegally brutally runs them down, kill all they can, route the rest of our majestic beautiful horses to brutal abuse and slaughter houses The BLM are horse hating thugs who only serve the cattle industry.
Who is Cass Sunsteein? Just because I affirm that horses DO have emotions you call me a wacko? No, I do NOT seek "personhood" for animals. I an not a vegan. I am not my horse's "guardian," I'm his owner. How does that preclude my thinking that everyone has an obligation to treat animals with kindness and the respect another sentient being deserves?
You're the one that sounds emotional. The "problem" of excess horses is from overbreeding DOMESTIC horses.
Thoughtful, thank you for exposing the truth of the wild horse round up. The BLM claims that they are rounding up the horses because they are starving to death. All of those horses had a good body weight. I say let them live out their lives naturally without being rounded up, separated from their families, warehoused and sold to who know where.
furthermore- horses do not have the capacity for love, loyalty, gratitude, or compassion. this is all fabricated by hollywood- most people "know" what they know about horses thru TV and movies which is probably the worst possible reference. Get educated about the subject before you start spouting this emotional garbage!
@MagnoliaMeadowsFarm Horses most certainly DO have emotions. Exactly like ours? No.. We are very different species. They are prey; we are predators. However, they have very strong family bonds and "best buddy." bonds. They can even have strong bonds with a human, if given a chance. If you take time to learn their language - just plain old body language - you'd be surprised at how well you can communicate with them.
All those years with horses and you never knew any of them at all.
I suppose you side with wackos like Cass Sunsteein too? they should have legal representation OMG what friggin planet are you from?? get a grip, and save your emotionally driven illogical rants- they do nothing but expound the already critical problem of excess horses in this country!
@MagnoliaMeadowsFarm -there are 9 MILLLION WELFARE CATTLE ON OUR PUBLIC LAND.HERE ARE 9 MILLION PRIVATE WELFARE CATTLE WHOM OUTNUMBER OUR MAJESTIC WILD HORSES OVER 300-1.The BLM are liars -Wild Horses aren't starving, are not overpopulated and are actually good for the land-the BLM corrupt cowardly liars illegally brutally runs them down, kill all they can, route the rest of our majestic beautiful horses to brutal abuse and slaughter houses
quite the contrary- I run a boarding and training facility and Im successful at what I do because I have learned about these animals and I understand them- I observe them every day. On the other hand- Ive known people who have ownd and /or worked with horse for 20,30,40 years and never learned anything about them, how they think or what drives them. they are simple creatures driven by survival. 99% of their behaviour is a direct result of instinct- not emotion like so many humans like to attach
This is a perfect example of misinformation about horses- I can tell you from 25+ years of working with horses that this video does nothing but pull the emotional heartstrings of the public. "there is no shelter for the horses" idiot- are horses born in caves? no. do they seek out caves? no. where do wild horses live? thats right- wide open spaces. You place all these human emotions on these animals and I can assure you- they DO NOT think that way.
@MagnoliaMeadowsFarm You say you have 25+ years working with horses and what you've posted is ALL you have learned in all that time? My God! I have 30+ years working with horses, and I couldn't possibly disagree more.
You are the idiot if you don't know that hot, extremely stressed horses DO need shelter under cold, windy conditions. In the wild they would seek shelter in stands of trees or low lying land. In their condition these horses' immune system is seriously compromised.

Please spare me this crap you are obviously one of the liberal progressive nutbags that thinks horses are "humans with hooves".. do you make your a cups o' cocoa and read him a bedtime story before you tuck them in at nite? a horse no more needs a "house" than he needs a blanket- seriously- what do you think they do in the wild? Nature provides for all of that- they are born outside- and thats how they like it. Im well versed in body language its whats made me a successful trainer. (cont.)
I am not a liberal, radical or animal rights activist. That's that automatic comment of someone who can't think of anything to say. I only advocate for the welfare and humane treatment of any animal.
Idiot, I didn't say a horse needs a HOUSE. GEEZ! I said shelter from the wind, especially when they are hot and sweaty and the weather is windy and cold. Okay? Wild horses DO seek shelter from the wind under those conditions.

I am saddened that you would use the horse as a politcal pawn. The TRUTH about The Wildhorse and Burro Act should be part of your retoric as well. The overpopulation of the range by horses leads to their DEATH by STARVATION. Don't cover up the truth. The vast majority of ranchers I have spoken with are in favor of the multiple use concept on puplic lands, which includes the grazing of managed and healthy wild horse herds. Get your facts straight...the public deserves the truth.
Of course the ranchers are in favor of the BLM's version of "multiple use'" because they benefit from the policy and it serves ranchers that the BLM scapegoats wild horses. BLM, like ranchers, blame the horses for everything - despite BLM's own data states cattle grazing is the leading cause of range deterioration.
Solider Meadows Ranch & Paiute Meadows Ranch received increased cattle grazing allotments last renewal; yet BLM doesn't increase the number of wild horses allowed in the area.
Sadly ranchers, hunters and BLM staff (most of whom are either hunters or from ranching backgrounds) distort information in order to continue to milk the system.
The BLM's policy is what you call welfare ranching - we the taxpayers, wild horses and other wildlife pay the price so ranchers can benefit.
When I hear the rhetoric "horse overpopulation" or "death by starvation" I know that person is connected to the profiteers.
Again, Mr. Toughtful, you have missed the mark. I believe the recent comments submitted by wildlife groups and environmental groups support the facts that wildhorses are damaging our natural resources and wildife when overpopulation occurs. I don't really believe anyone wants all the wild horses gone, just managed for ecological and horse herd health.
Horses, wildlife, and livestock have co-existed on western ranges for decades, and will continue to do so in spite of your efforts.
The "conservation" or "wild life" groups you refer to are pro-hunting groups. Hunters want "surplus" wildlife who they can go and shoot; this is the hunters' demented version of "conservation."
The only reason hunters don't like wild horses is because (1) they can't shoot them; (2) there is not an increase in wildlife who hunters can then go kill.
By the way, clearly the local chapter of the Sierra Club is influenced by the heavy ranching/hunting industry.
NevadaMustangs - you are willy and sly like a slimy snake - you make your lies, then end with a last statement that makes it impossible to thumb down you -
I hope everyone can see through your antic.
Here is my vote for the first paragraph - thumb down!
Last sentence - thumb up!
Yes "Horses, wildlife, and livestock have co-existed on western ranges for decades, and will continue to do so in spite of your efforts." But should end "will NOT condinue with BLM efforts"
Nevada Mustangs, you said "I don't really believe anyone wants all the wild horses gone..."
BLM's genetics expert, Gus Cothran, has stated that a geneticaly viable herd is one of 200 to 250. Further that genetic "possibilty" exists at 100 - 150 horses. BLM has selelctively used this 100 - 150 (such as Pryor) - What does this tell me & hopefully all other thinking persons?
Some herds have been completely removed - ZERO - doesn't even take any thought to figure this one out!
@NevadaMustangs The BLM wants all the horses gone. They hardly bother to hide the fact anymore. As for the horses damaging the ranges if overpopulation occurs, I'm sure that's true. However, there is VERY little chance of THAT.
@ThoughtfulNow did u ever think that these people say these things becuase they SEE THESE ANIMALS AND WHAT THEY DO FIRST HAND??? ranchers dont take from the land they give back as well...w/o those evil ranchers working thier butts off those feral horses and much of the wildlife wouldnt have WATER...yes they need water and WATER IS SUPPLIED BY RANCHERS ..people like u probably have never seen a "wild" horse in person...and yet u can say those of us who do are wrong? fuck u u know jack shit
Speaking of facts - "multiple use" as the BLM is interpreting it is in violation of the WFRH&B Act where it is specifically stated that in a multiple use situation, horses are to be the "principal" occupants. Presently horses are outnumbered by cattle by around 1000 to 1. That doesn't sound like horses are the "principal" occupants to me.
The horses have been stripped of more than 20 million of the acres that was designated for them in the 1971 Act, What's there now? Cattle.
So, to finish, they are getting better with the BLM than in the wild. Remember, a large part of these horses have escaped/run-a-way/turned out by farm/rancher/horse owners that no longer want them. I have ridden horses captured by the BLM, they where great, the sweetest things you had ever met! Anyway, to let you know, it is rare for a horse to die during the round-up (though it has happened). These horses are really getting the best care they can get!! Follow the Calico Round Up, you'll see.
I hate to say it, it may dampen your spirts, but they don't send them to slaugter, they adopt them out, if not adopted, they go to a facility of which they will be kept until they are adopted or die [of old age or natural causes]. In the video you saw some foals eating, they not only are okay, but simple waiting their turn, and would have to wait equley in the wild. Not to mention, they would get less of lesser' quality in the wild. The mare and foal that where sulking, where resting peacfuly.
You should get your facts straight before you make any phone calls. Do some research and see what impacts these horses have on NATIVE wildlife and the fragile high desert ecosystem. The idea of the wild horse is a romantic myth. These horses are FERAL, they are an invasive species and they do not belong here. As for the comment about the rich cattle ranchers. They too are a thing of the past. Come to Nevada with an open mind and see for yourself.
There are many exotic species in North America, of which the wild horse may be one, but not all are invasive. An invasive specie takes over and crowds the other species out, like exotic vines or African bullfrogs, or Europeans. This is not the wild horse. The BLM, by managing the lands for special interests such as cattle ranchers, hunters and mining, has shown they have neither the wisdom nor the education to manage wild lands. Bring back the wolves and Grizzlies; let the land manage itself.
Here we go again: The government is being bought by the cattle ranchers who have the money. This is not a government of "we the people" it's one of "those who can buy." This wild horse roundup is disgusting and very sad. I will call the White House with my comments. Maybe if enough people call, we can make some changes. I'm not optimistic, however.
Last Fiday I received a notice that explains alot. There is a plan to put a pipeline right thru the states that they are doing the large scale round-ups on. do ya think they might be worried the hroses could get in their way. Money just keep talking louder. And I suspect the government will be all for this pipeline as a way to make US more self energized. less dependent on foreign fuel. We are going to have to make thunderous noise if we want this stopped.
the cattle are the ones destroying the rangelands-not the wildhorses. We need people to write, call, & fax your representatives, and senators and aske them to please stop these roundups! It is costing the taxpayers millions to pen these animals up. As you can see, they are fat & healthy-without ANY help from us.

These are FERAL horses..They have direct negative effects on native wildlife in Nevada, wiping out habitat for sage grouse, pica and other endangered animals, not to mention the destruction of springs and riparian areas. The last thing we need is a bunch of ignorant fuckwits pulling on the heartstrings of the uninformed public. and spreading misinformation These invasive horses cost the american public millions of dollars each year, money that could be used to better manage our public lands.
There is no evidence that they are destroying native wildlife. The real destroyers are the large herds of cattle that they are removing these horses to make more room for. They do not cost the American taxpayer any significant amount of money until they are gathered by the BLM and warehoused. Your comments are very mean spirited and small minded.
I am glad to see you are concerned about the negative effects exotic animals have on native wildlife. Accordingly, you must be opposed to cattle ranching and hunting and supportive of restoring wolf and grizzly bear populations to the wild lands.
ThoughtfulNow - excellent, one of the best so far!
In my book =
Obama is toast!
Horse slaughter is toast!
Europe tourism is toast becasue they eat American Wild horse!
BLM is toast!
Tourism is toast in: Nevada, Wyoming & Montana at least.
Now I understand some commenters who are volunteers for BLM (good for them- no disrespect for that) when they say bad tings about wild horses - because all they see are these sad shells of what were once vibrant wild creatures.
When UOH takes wild horses off thier lust fro slaughter profits as "base resources", yes thats what they are calling the wild horses - "basse resources"! As if they have some right to them, just like they seem to think they have the right to graze 100 catle to every horse. And until their is a moretoriuam for Congressional investigation, etc. etc."
Then I'll focus - until then, in my book, thier all toast.
Is anyone interested in actually getting involved & learning more about what is involved in the BLM and the round-ups? Anyone wanting to get information about who to write & call to TRY to get these round-ups reduced or illiminated? There are several groups out there that you can join the effort with. These poor horses have gotten me more active with an ISSUE then I have ever been before. They need as many people as possible to make a fuss if it's gonna get stopped before the herds are ruined.
This is a disgusting turn of history in the making.. I was very surprised to read there was only 30 people that showed up at the Red Rock rally in an attempt to show support for the freedom of our wild horses & our rights to have a say & be listened to by the powerful of this nation that can put a stop to these round-ups. The people put them in office and then they go ahead and side with the personal interest groups to remove the horses and add cattle to the land. How corrupt this all looks! .
I think we should bring criminal charges against the BLM for animal cruelty, misuse of public land and wildlife. These horses are supposed to be protected under law. what is sad is "surprise kitty" has 15million views but no one does anything about atrocities. shoot down a helicopter, sign a petition, write to the prez, do something, stand for something!
Very well said,! We need some heros !! I wonder what Robert Redford thinks about this or if he is active in attempting to get it stopped. He and Clint Eastwood should have made a movie about our wild horses. I don't know if Clint is a horse-person but Robert is. Robert help us! We need some heros! Mix the letters of heros and what do you have? H_O_R_S_E!!!! The BLM actions are so disgusting to say the least. Yet none with legal merits is standing up against them.
Thanks for making this...these horses like fine and healthy. Now we are hearing that Fallon has Broken Arrow, a slaughter connection with mobile capabilities. It just gets deeper and deeper in the web of lies that are being woven by BLM
Great upload. The facts speak for themselves. Look at those Mustangs AND the range. The BLM is lying, lying, lying, lying all the way to the bank at the wildlife's expense.
AT 1:52 min into your video the buckskin horse has a BB brand on it's left hip. Since when do wild horses have brands ?! ur out of line and u'e just proven that!
Any branded horse running with the wild ones had better be "permitted" or is illegal. Some ranchers, as you should know, turn their own horses out to free-graze on govt land. Unless he has a permit for it,..it is running public lands illegally.
no one range grazes their horses in the calicos. u can check. i don't think that any ranchers in that area "free graze" their horses. no one runs ramudas ne more and it wouldn't make any sence to risk you horse out with the mustangs. besides domestic mares are usually the only horse that can coexist with a few exceptions.
I do think there are ranchs in the area that 'free graze' on the open range. Apparently there are at least some. Maybe it's just a few that have either escaped or been abandoned for any number of reasons. Across the country people are abandoning their horses for lack of funds to care for them. I am sure not the smartest thing to do. There are many desperate people out there. But, again, there is no denying the horses are there and they are being rounded up by the BLM. What is your point?
just from what i've seen... the people that have released their horses into the wild.. are usually people that support your sort of argument. call the susanville mustang dept, and ask them about a gelding they were called about a couple years ago by painter flat. it was a domestic gelding that went running up to a stud not knowing ne better. and when we found him (we run cows up there.) he was skinny as hell, tore up, and had an eye kicked out of him. he had to be put down :(
What is your point? One of us is very confused as to what my sort of argument is. I asked what your point was in claiming these were branded horses. I would NEVER let a domesticated horse out with a wild herd. YOur remark seems to indicate if they are branded they are not wild. So, what then is youir point? If this is not a wild herd , there are plenty of wild horses that are about to be rounded up. And there is plenty of pictures available to show them to be healthy and well fed.
They are ILLEGALLY there. Why wouldnt the ranchers do that since they are free=grazing their cows figuring who is gonna notice a few ranch horses thrown in? They should look up the BB brand to see who is illegally grazing horses there.
no one runs a BB brand in that area. and there are not any ranchers that free graze their cattle in the calicos, mainly because any permits there have been bought by the jacksons and they are brand inspectors! lol! and do u know what a pain it would be to catch a horse everyday out in the open? and why wouldn't you want your work horse on alfalfa?
What do you mean they are out of line cause one of the horses has a brand? Do you think 'these' horses are all not wild? My gut tells me these are wild horses on the range but even 'if' these are not wild there are many more that are. The BLM isn't denying the horses are there. They are claiming there are too many. They already have over 33,000 horses documented in gathering pens in Nevada. Wild horse round-ups 'must be stopped". It's their legal right to be there. ROAM act!
The ROAM Act will TAKE AWAY their right to be there! The first thing it does is STRIKE OUT that provision of the WFHBA of 1971. The horses and burros will NO LONGER have a statutory right to remain on their historic rangelands. DO NOT support ROAM as it rips the heart out of the most important part of the WFHBA.
Is it not the ROAM act that wild horse fans have been supporting to be past by the house and senate? Or is it the clause that got added sneekily that needs to be removed to protect the wild horses rights? I have read sooo much on this stuff that I could have gotten it turned around. Not a good thing to get turned around, that's for sure. I'll have to reck this. Thanks for correcting me if I was misrepresented the act. last thing I want to do is HURT the wild horse freedoms.
Yes, but they were fooled in the beginning but most have seen the light., I know it is confusing but remember this: there is only one thing keeping those wild ones on their historic rangerlands, and UN-ARGUABLY, that is the first thing ROAM "strikes out." The problem is, that "lay people" dont understand the importance of statutory law. In ROAM, there will be no statutory law entitling the wild ones to remain on their traditional lands.
@MorganLver HERE ARE 9 MILLION PRIVATE WELFARE CATTLE WHOM OUTNUMBER OUR MAJESTIC WILD HORSES OVER 300-1.The BLM are liars -Wild Horses aren't starving, are not overpopulated and are actually good for the land-the BLM corrupt cowardly liars illegally brutally runs them down, kill all they can, route the rest of our majestic beautiful horses to brutal abuse and slaughter houses The BLM are horse hating thugs who only serve the cattle industry.
Why are we, the taxpaying public, allowing WELFARE RANCHERS to dictate government policy on how wild free-roaming horses should be managed on the horses own land?
WELFARE RANCHERS need to get their livestock off of PUBLIC taxpayer-funded lands designated by FEDERAL law for the horses and burros.
i'm not saying pull all the horses off the range. but tell me when was the last time u were in the calicos? have u even been there? why not leave 200 head or so,keep the numbers at 200 head, and make the area they need a park. then they'll be good looking maybe but some nicer mares in here and there so the pffspring will be more adotpable. and then people can go on vacation, and come see the wild horses.
What difference does it make whether I have been there? I was in the area one year ago. That's irrelevant ! "Why not leave 200 head?" I'll ask the opposite, "why should it be only 200 " Vacationers are going to be able to spot 200 horses scattered on that amount of land? The pictures I've seen this week of the horses being round-up and in the pens look pretty darn good...except the new wounds that appear to be from the run they are being put through. Why do you want the horses removed?
We need an immediate moratorium until the public can work with Congress ro create a sustainable plan to protect, not destroy our beautiful wild horses,

Calm down before you have a stroke!
MorganLver 2 years ago
Thoughtful, thank you for exposing the truth of the wild horse round up. The BLM claims that they are rounding up the horses because they are starving to death. All of those horses had a good body weight. I say let them live out their lives naturally without being rounded up, separated from their families, warehoused and sold to who know where.
JenayBrooke 2 years ago 3
furthermore- horses do not have the capacity for love, loyalty, gratitude, or compassion. this is all fabricated by hollywood- most people "know" what they know about horses thru TV and movies which is probably the worst possible reference. Get educated about the subject before you start spouting this emotional garbage!
MagnoliaMeadowsFarm 2 years ago
@MagnoliaMeadowsFarm Horses most certainly DO have emotions. Exactly like ours? No.. We are very different species. They are prey; we are predators. However, they have very strong family bonds and "best buddy." bonds. They can even have strong bonds with a human, if given a chance. If you take time to learn their language - just plain old body language - you'd be surprised at how well you can communicate with them.
All those years with horses and you never knew any of them at all.

quite the contrary- I run a boarding and training facility and Im successful at what I do because I have learned about these animals and I understand them- I observe them every day. On the other hand- Ive known people who have ownd and /or worked with horse for 20,30,40 years and never learned anything about them, how they think or what drives them. they are simple creatures driven by survival. 99% of their behaviour is a direct result of instinct- not emotion like so many humans like to attach
MagnoliaMeadowsFarm 1 year ago
This is a perfect example of misinformation about horses- I can tell you from 25+ years of working with horses that this video does nothing but pull the emotional heartstrings of the public. "there is no shelter for the horses" idiot- are horses born in caves? no. do they seek out caves? no. where do wild horses live? thats right- wide open spaces. You place all these human emotions on these animals and I can assure you- they DO NOT think that way.
MagnoliaMeadowsFarm 2 years ago

NevadaMustangs 2 years ago
Of course the ranchers are in favor of the BLM's version of "multiple use'" because they benefit from the policy and it serves ranchers that the BLM scapegoats wild horses. BLM, like ranchers, blame the horses for everything - despite BLM's own data states cattle grazing is the leading cause of range deterioration.
Solider Meadows Ranch & Paiute Meadows Ranch received increased cattle grazing allotments last renewal; yet BLM doesn't increase the number of wild horses allowed in the area.
ThoughtfulNow 2 years ago 2
Sadly ranchers, hunters and BLM staff (most of whom are either hunters or from ranching backgrounds) distort information in order to continue to milk the system.
The BLM's policy is what you call welfare ranching - we the taxpayers, wild horses and other wildlife pay the price so ranchers can benefit.
When I hear the rhetoric "horse overpopulation" or "death by starvation" I know that person is connected to the profiteers.
ThoughtfulNow 2 years ago 4
NevadaMustangs 2 years ago
The "conservation" or "wild life" groups you refer to are pro-hunting groups. Hunters want "surplus" wildlife who they can go and shoot; this is the hunters' demented version of "conservation."
The only reason hunters don't like wild horses is because (1) they can't shoot them; (2) there is not an increase in wildlife who hunters can then go kill.
By the way, clearly the local chapter of the Sierra Club is influenced by the heavy ranching/hunting industry.

TheWildhorses10 2 years ago
@NevadaMustangs The BLM wants all the horses gone. They hardly bother to hide the fact anymore. As for the horses damaging the ranges if overpopulation occurs, I'm sure that's true. However, there is VERY little chance of THAT.

Cattle.
Enough facts?
MorganLver 2 years ago 3
So, to finish, they are getting better with the BLM than in the wild. Remember, a large part of these horses have escaped/run-a-way/turned out by farm/rancher/horse owners that no longer want them. I have ridden horses captured by the BLM, they where great, the sweetest things you had ever met! Anyway, to let you know, it is rare for a horse to die during the round-up (though it has happened). These horses are really getting the best care they can get!! Follow the Calico Round Up, you'll see.
PennyandShady09 2 years ago
I hate to say it, it may dampen your spirts, but they don't send them to slaugter, they adopt them out, if not adopted, they go to a facility of which they will be kept until they are adopted or die [of old age or natural causes]. In the video you saw some foals eating, they not only are okay, but simple waiting their turn, and would have to wait equley in the wild. Not to mention, they would get less of lesser' quality in the wild. The mare and foal that where sulking, where resting peacfuly.

Hey Liz,
You should get your facts straight before you make any phone calls.

These are FERAL horses..They have direct negative effects on native wildlife in Nevada, wiping out habitat for sage grouse, pica and other endangered animals, not to mention the destruction of springs and riparian areas. The last thing we need is a bunch of ignorant fuckwits pulling on the heartstrings of the uninformed public. and spreading misinformation These invasive horses cost the american public millions of dollars each year, money that could be used to better manage our public lands.
wethepeoplenv1 2 years ago
There is no evidence that they are destroying native wildlife. The real destroyers are the large herds of cattle that they are removing these horses to make more room for. They do not cost the American taxpayer any significant amount of money until they are gathered by the BLM and warehoused. Your comments are very mean spirited and small minded.

AT 1:52 min into your video the buckskin horse has a BB brand on it's left hip. Since when do wild horses have brands ?! ur out of line and u'e just proven that!
kwhorseluver 2 years ago
Any branded horse running with the wild ones had better be "permitted" or is illegal. Some ranchers, as you should know, turn their own horses out to free-graze on govt land. Unless he has a permit for it,..it is running public lands illegally.
MuleKist 2 years ago
no one range grazes their horses in the calicos. u can check. i don't think that any ranchers in that area "free graze" their horses. no one runs ramudas ne more and it wouldn't make any sence to risk you horse out with the mustangs. besides domestic mares are usually the only horse that can coexist with a few exceptions.
kwhorseluver 2 years ago
I do think there are ranchs in the area that 'free graze' on the open range. Apparently there are at least some. Maybe it's just a few that have either escaped or been abandoned for any number of reasons. Across the country people are abandoning their horses for lack of funds to care for them. I am sure not the smartest thing to do. There are many desperate people out there. But, again, there is no denying the horses are there and they are being rounded up by the BLM. What is your point?
CShirleyC 2 years ago
just from what i've seen... the people that have released their horses into the wild.. are usually people that support your sort of argument. call the susanville mustang dept, and ask them about a gelding they were called about a couple years ago by painter flat. it was a domestic gelding that went running up to a stud not knowing ne better. and when we found him (we run cows up there.) he was skinny as hell, tore up, and had an eye kicked out of him. he had to be put down :(
kwhorseluver 2 years ago
What is your point? One of us is very confused as to what my sort of argument is. I asked what your point was in claiming these were branded horses. I would NEVER let a domesticated horse out with a wild herd. YOur remark seems to indicate if they are branded they are not wild. So, what then is youir point? If this is not a wild herd , there are plenty of wild horses that are about to be rounded up. And there is plenty of pictures available to show them to be healthy and well fed.
CShirleyC 2 years ago
They are ILLEGALLY there. Why wouldnt the ranchers do that since they are free=grazing their cows figuring who is gonna notice a few ranch horses thrown in? They should look up the BB brand to see who is illegally grazing horses there.
MuleKist 2 years ago
no one runs a BB brand in that area. and there are not any ranchers that free graze their cattle in the calicos, mainly because any permits there have been bought by the jacksons and they are brand inspectors! lol! and do u know what a pain it would be to catch a horse everyday out in the open? and why wouldn't you want your work horse on alfalfa?
kwhorseluver 2 years ago
If they were free grazing some of their horses, it wouldn't be the ones they are currently riding on a regular basis.
CShirleyC 2 years ago
sometimes mares escape! more power to 'em! do you work for the BLM?
dakotasparkle 2 years ago
What do you mean they are out of line cause one of the horses has a brand? Do you think 'these' horses are all not wild? My gut tells me these are wild horses on the range but even 'if' these are not wild there are many more that are. The BLM isn't denying the horses are there. They are claiming there are too many. They already have over 33,000 horses documented in gathering pens in Nevada. Wild horse round-ups 'must be stopped". It's their legal right to be there. ROAM act!
CShirleyC 2 years ago
The ROAM Act will TAKE AWAY their right to be there! The first thing it does is STRIKE OUT that provision of the WFHBA of 1971. The horses and burros will NO LONGER have a statutory right to remain on their historic rangelands. DO NOT support ROAM as it rips the heart out of the most important part of the WFHBA.
MuleKist 2 years ago
Is it not the ROAM act that wild horse fans have been supporting to be past by the house and senate? Or is it the clause that got added sneekily that needs to be removed to protect the wild horses rights? I have read sooo much on this stuff that I could have gotten it turned around. Not a good thing to get turned around, that's for sure. I'll have to reck this. Thanks for correcting me if I was misrepresented the act. last thing I want to do is HURT the wild horse freedoms.
CShirleyC 2 years ago
Yes, but they were fooled in the beginning but most have seen the light., I know it is confusing but remember this: there is only one thing keeping those wild ones on their historic rangerlands, and UN-ARGUABLY, that is the first thing ROAM "strikes out." The problem is, that "lay people" dont understand the importance of statutory law. In ROAM, there will be no statutory law entitling the wild ones to remain on their traditional lands.
