  • I love the way you teach. It's very easy to understand and see what you are doing.

  • Dude (Justin) , you rule!

  • That animal noise at the end sounded EXACTLY like my string bending.

  • justin is the best teacher ever. long live king justin.

  • i am lucky enough to have figured this out for myself. Started playing trumpet in the 4th grade, NATURAL on drums, and those drummin' years playin' Country, Souther, Hard Rockk were the best years of my life. I learned friom watchimg bass, lead, and rhythm guitar from them. I am on YT too! glassman18302

  • Ya know. There are some people that really want to learn guitar and a few leads. Same way as I would have taught it Justin! I think what you are doing is simply awesome!!!!!!!

  • may... ive only been playing for 3months and im starting to feel like i can lead after 2 more months...

  • ok...i ws strugglin to gt the bends properly on my acoustic guitr....so i put electric guitar strings on it...n nw..bendin notes is soo mch more easy n....da sound also is quite gud...!!

Hope dis hlps ppl who nly hv an acoustic...!!

  • @uj4cars You should really go back to school and have your grammar checked out!

  • @uj4cars i really hope this is a joke

  • @liveslowlivesimple Sadly I think it isn't ... Oh dear God haha

  • Hello

I'm playing a classic guitar and I started playing 2 months ago.

Is it unusual that my fingers hurt after several bends ?

And does classic fit for blues ? please reply

  • @EmTheBestRapper Its perfectly normal, 2 months isnt even close to enough time to develop proper callouses, and bending puts extra strain on your fingers, so just keep practising. Also a classical isnt fit for blues, but you can still use one, but i would suggest invest in either a electric, or an acoustic guitar.

  • Disregard my question about the blues note, I see where you get into it a few lessons later, thanks Justin!!

  • How come you're not playing the flatted third note in the scale?

  • this totally helped a lot! thanks!

  • @nichiyas I have the same problem

  • is it possible to play blues lead on acoustic ?

  • these are the best lessons ever

  • On a totally unrelated note: I Love Tasmanian Devils!!!!

  • great teacher! thanks

  • @JustinSandercoe like TheMeOwMiiX problem... if i want to bend a note up then back to the initial note without muting it. how to do it? PLEASE REPLY.

  • I got a problem- when i bend the string, it usually will touch the next string. Each i want to release the string (not muted when the note reached), the "next string" will make a sound. eg. sweet child o' mine slash solo.

  • I get what you're saying about rancid notes. Palm muting is also worth mentioning as a subtle and intriging way to add warmth. Mark Knofler springs to mind. Good job and dig the accent.

  • likin the vids and the tele - i have a fake one in my hands and its not so shiny lol

  • thats a nice telecaster . u keep it very shiny xD

  • Thanks. You teaching is great. I don't have patience for that, lol.

I've been playing a long time, and use the methods in all of your videos that I've seen so far, but haven't delved into the WHY aspect really. Right now, I'm really trying to tighten up my technique, and expand on what is already innate to me. Knowing when and why is important.

Anyways, your teaching is useful for beginners and experienced players as well. Dig!

  • I know this kid who bends with his fingers square and his thumb behind the guitar neck..... reckon he's shit hot at guitar. so when he was playing and 'bending' notes, i went and got a tuner and showed him how far out his bends were. i'm a bitch.

  • i picked up a guitar again, i was happy i started again, then i saw this video....

  • The thing i love about your lessons as they dont just teach but they also entertain when you play what you mean and that makes people wanna play it more

    Good job !

  • Regarding the whole muting thing: Do you always want to mute? Sometimes it sounds cool unmuted

  • @xxRandomnameguyxx check david gilmour of pink floyd. he unmutes all the time

  • Why does that animal appears in the end in most of hsi videos? LOL

  • OK i have a question ive always used the same string gauge (11 low e) and i am used to bend hard , will it be a big difference to change to an 8 gauge ? maybe easier ? i bend in tune and i practice a lot to get that will it be hard to the same on low gauge?

  • @pliskinn0089 i think you mean 11 high e, and yeah its going to be different. But there are those who use skinnier strings and different tuning to get their tone.

  • I want that telecaster.

And youre one of the best teacher.

  • hello dudes haha

  • why C? for the curl bends?

  • well, its just the position of the scale

  • 2:47 sounds like the chainsaw sound from texas chainsaw massacre! BADASS

  • thnx

  • Bollocks Jimi Hendrix bent anynote and it sounded good cause he had a ear...its all feelimg that counts..

  • Yeah...experiment. A quarter-tone bend or "curl" would work from F# toward G or from G toward the root A. A bend from D toward Eb (the flat five) works really well too.

  • what guage of strings?

  • Your a great teacher ,many people play well, but it is a true gift to be able to teach.

  • thats just untrue yes on an emotional level youre right, but you can bend it too far cos it can sound rubbish and there is still technique to blues which is what he is teaching, you cant just pick up a guitar and play blues with pure soul

  • thats still rubbish, some times notes just sound wrong, if you sing out of key it sounds wrong, and not even hendrix could have picked up a guitar before he knew how to play it and lay down a facemelting riff

  • What instruments do you play?

  • it's a guitar. lol jk, it's a fender telecaster, but he pimped it up a bit with a humbucker (double coil mic) on the neck

  • shut up with all that i know everything bullshit there is a right way and wrong way to do things. The lesson helps alot

  • what kind of guitar is that? i notice that there are 3 tone controls

  • Fender telecaster. If its the same as Strats. I think one is for volume and the other two for tone.. I may be wrong on this

  • dude, there are 100% definitely certain notes you can't bend. Bend the root note up a semitone and it sounds crap... unless you are playing some kinda jazz or want to play really out, then play whatever you like...

  • Justin, I believe you are on point 99.9% of the time ( you've made well over 300 videos/thousands of tips and this is the only time I have disagreed with you!) and that your lessons are by far and away the very best I have seen, however!!!!...my friend!!!...I must disagree with you on your rule! It can be done! I wrote what I believe is a pretty good song that bends the root up a semitone. I would love to hear what you think of it if you wish!?

  • he aleready said it's possible, it;s just better not to do it if you don't know what you're doing. sigh, watch the video before you comment

  • I watched the video, and my comment stands. I think he is holding still to the fact that he believes "Bend the root note up a semitone and it sounds crap...". Please, shoo fly shoo, and read his LATEST comments before you get testy with someone you don't even know. Good luck.

  • Whatever you want, why are you so jumpy about it anyways and when did I get testy (wow I learned something new today) I just don't get what the problem is

  • @JustinSandercoe i agree some notes are nasty to bend!

  • out of all the people i have tried to learn from...

you put it into the most understandable way...

i was never told why some of the notes go together.

    the bending is the answer...

  • You have nothing but good in you man. I have a private teacher for guitar and i still come home and use your lessons man. i can compare you to what my teacher is teaching me and you offer way more detail of whats going on and then more. Every kid or grow-up learning guitar should use your videos.. Your the best they have on the inter-net hands down. and it's all FREE because you are so nice about it.

  • Man, I'll tell you what Justin, and all of your virtual friends including myself. I've been following you a long time now, in a non-stalkerish web-based learning type of way. And by far you have the best lessons anybody could ask for. You explain things very clear, and offer 100% free tutorials and lessons on guitar, and also offer songs to use the techniques, riffs, and emphasis on all the lessons you have made. I really appreciate you in more than a guitar teaching way, but as a person as well

  • I dont normally log in let alone comment but I've been following your lessons for the Blues and I love it all! Such good tutorials. I really love blues and if i make it famous I'll mention your name haha.

  • Thanks Justin,

    One of my favorite lessons!

  • VERY GOOD

  • Justin, I broke my 6th string. :'(

  • Didn't we all (u sure you don't mean first?)

  • No, I broke the first (and yeah btw, the six. xD)

  • How can you broke your 6th string. Its impossiple

  • thank's for the lesson man,,,

  • your telecaster has 3 knobs :O. is the extra one a tone or a volume knob?

  • It's a 3 pickup so theres two volumes and a tone

  • (hahahaha rubbish) yay im learning more about how to use my strat XD

  • justin these lessons are great! you explain them in such an easy to understand way and its great you take your time to show us close ups etc. really helps and now i cant wait to move onto the next lesson :D

  • how do u know where the 'c' is?

  • by learning the notes on the fret board! the C is on 8th fret on the e strings, 3rd on the A, 10th on the D, 5th on the G, and 1st on the B.

  • after you memorize where your notes are on each string, another useful thing to memorize is the relative location of each note's octave.

  • oh man...

  • yeah the feed back has been really helpful.

  • Whats a good amp setup for blues?

  • fender amps r usually good for blues, a deluxe reverb or somethin, also the marshall amp with blues in the name lol

  • Dude....fender twin :) BLUES GOD!

  • thanks for the help..:)five stars here

  • Dammit! I snapped my string by doing those tone-bends...

  • Im having a really hard time bending on 22 fret please a need help any tips

  • If your strings are higher than 10's, go to 9's.

  • im using 11 they say that to go to 9 i will to change the calibration of my guitar. if a use 9 how will that affect my tone, i have epiphone LP

  • To be honest, I'm not too sure.

Try 10's, or if you choose 9's you might have to tighten your truss rod.

But I always change strings and the only difference is the tightness of the strings.

  • You will have to get your guitar set up if u change your string gauge. It will give you a thinner tone but bends and general playing will be slightly easier. I would go to 10's because 11's to 9's will be quite a difference to play. hope that helps

  • You might have to get your neck adjusted... I have a epiphone les paul too ;)

  • Justin says all the time 'the first two notes on the high strings sound horrid, DONT bend them' but he doesnt show how bad it sounds. Got me mad curious !

  • the bending at 1:25 is like from sweet child of mine by Guns n roses :P

i'm learning a song and i aced the intro but i think some of them have bending or some of the techniques hes teaching. So if i aced all the song i'd be thanking a whole lot to Justin

  • im doing all the blues on acoustic its not as good sounding as the electric and my fingers hurt like hell. but i havent bought a electric yet i was told its better learning on acoustic. then it should come easier on electric. is there any truth in this ?

  • yeah. learn all your chords and scales n stuff on the acoustic then after a while the electric will be a godsend

  • yeah nice 1 . ill have to buy a electric. mean time i hope my fingers dont fall off

  • i started on the acoustic for blues and it's really a godsend on the electric later. just that you can't really bend that much for acoustic so instead of bending i'll just play that note

  • yeah thanks , for the reply folks. been playing guitar for 2yr never really attached a style to my playing but i know now blues its for me. and ever one that comments and takes time to help others , nice 1 my freinds

  • you should be able to full bend light strings. I do feel like I'm pushing it sometimes tho.

  • If you do this on an acoustic you'd Eff your strings up and snap em. Stick to electric ^^ Exellent tuts btw.

  • hate this kind of huge hamster allways screaming to me... i get scared

  • justin is a great teacher. he makes is so clear and simple even i get it. ha ha. thanks justin

  • my problem is gettin my amp to sound like that...

  • It has to be next to impossible to get those full step bends on an acoustic guitar. So, I'm assuming these lessons are for electric guitar exclusively?

  • You can do full tone bends, but it is easier with lighter strings.

  • This guy rocks.

  • thanks man you have made me a better guitar player and i have seen 2 of you vids :D

  • Thanks for putting these lessons out here. Its very much appreciated! You're a good teacher. Very clear and not too fast. Really helped me piece together some of the things I've been learning.

  • am i the only one who is slightly scared to bend that much? you teach realy well. better then any normal teachers.

  • ive always released my bends and curls. they sound so much better muted hard to get the timing right at first though. thanks justin.

  • Alright I never really expected much from these lessons but holy hell, the way they all come together and what not is simply mind blowing, you ARE the best.

One question, sometimes when I'm, really "into it" and ripping up and down a scale I will occasionally pull a bend that sounds like a power chord because it growls similarly and I'm pretty sure it has something to do with hitting more than one note on the bend but I can't explain how I do it,how the heck is it done?

  • wow the best guitar teacher ever thanks a lot really : D

  • Rockin! Your a good teacher!

  • Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge.

  • Wow,Bro...YOU ARE AWESOME!!!!!!!!!I SEE LESSONS BUT YOURS ARE THE BEST!!!AND ARE PRICELESS,TOO!!!!YOU ARE THE GUITARGOD

    HEHE...THNX MAN

  • I think the pickups are standard but if you're referring to the pup at the end I think it's a Tasmanian devil...

not a very nice animal! lol

  • anyone know what pups hes got in that tele?

  • watch his guitar gear vids he explains it in detail there i think

  • You have done more to improve the lot of struggling guitarists like me than anyone I have ever run across. Your lessons are priceless. Thanks.

  • All your lessons are SUPER, THANKS VERY MUCH.

  • I love your lessons - the best thing about youtube for me. Keep it up you legend.
