The determination of the people's will to fight was what kept the Vietnamese going in the war, they still sustained far more casualties in almost any engagement with American or South Vietnamese troops. Technology and training did prove to be more in battle effective, but against the people of a country who were so patriotic to their cause (Revolutionary War!), there is no victory.
Because of that war we welcomed over 50,000 Hmong to Minnesota. I've met many, co-workers, neighbors and friends. I never met one that I didn't like. They are beautiful people.
I waz there!! Less than a month ago!!! when I went down to one of the tunnels that hadn't been made bigger for tourists a bat flew into my face, it was pitch black, I waz on my own and fucking scared

whatever man! the north did not win the war! the US just left, we had problems and corruptions going on in the South that was it! well, no matter what, i still love vietnam as how it is today! it's growing really fast, and i dont really think, vietnam would turn out to be like this if the South won!
btw, they were talking shit about your shooting skill! "bắn dỡ mà đổ thừa" , shit and use excuses! and that Victor Charlie speaks hella good english!
And to think the U.S. entered the war, to help the scum French! Why be the wor;d's policement? The Fr. were the one's who massed up!
THe sAMe with israel today. Why does the U.S. have to bet involved in israel's wars? They're quite capable of defending themselves, and AFTER they picik the fight, after all!
Afghanistan, Iran, Somalia, the Awat Valley, Pashtun area, and now Yemen. Neither the U.S., nor Israel can handle Iran, so they turn around and pick on the weakest link, Yemen!
Apparently some of the tunnels are infested with poisonous snakes and spiders that have not been discovered yet. Also some venomous snakes were put in trap doors in walls so when enemies came passed the Vietnamese let the snakes out and the enemies were bitten, some even say some were killed instantly, in a matter of seconds.
It's funny but all those bombs and things we dropped were used against us, by that I mean that the Vietcong looked for duds and used the explosives to hurt us
I read before I went and it was suggested that we bring a lamp to explore the tunnels, and when I saw the size of the entrance.............. I had to laugh, I am a big person.
The vietnamese people are wonderful, courteous, gentle, warm, etc. etc.
@flamedrag18 In any debates or arguments, there's always a Right and a Wrong. The loser would usually lose his cool and rely on his fists or using profanity to make his opponent appears less victorious. It's a waste of my precious time to educate such a lowlife and unintelligent person. Get a life!
Nicely done video. I liked your commentary. It made clear what it was you were looking at there. The tunnels are quite hot, yes, and claustropobia is understandable. I was very happy to get out when we took the tour! War IS hell, and the best thing about it is it's ending. All the men and women there, on both sides, were quite brave and believed in what they were doing. Hopefully, we have matured to the point where we can settle our differences with our words, not guns, bombs and traps.
We know that the war bring to the people many suffering ,but Vietnamese always must fight from first days of their history against the forceful neighbor :China. If they are cowards ,Vietnam would not exist as independent country for long time ago
I agree with your conclusion at end of the video thought it seems military forces in the world still think it otherwise. Cu Chi is a must go to see place in VN. It is a green and beautiful country side still, unlike many other places near Saigon. It also has a huge monument and nice scenary nearby.
Believe it or not southeast asian jungles are the most beautiful scenes in the world....green.....i love the boonies..love the woods..tropical jungles...thick brushes and densely populated...so thick you couldn't see the sky...perfect to wage a guerilla warfare...which the NVA and VC favored
I did this 2 weeks ago, was much fun and the tunnels are fun to go in and the tiny hole is the size of a show box lucky i fit throught but im half Viet :p
You should include *Spoiler* in the title though as you pretty much would ruin the experience if someone watched your vid before they went because you've covered everything so thoroughly
:O i went down there alreadyy!!! it was really hot and hard to breath. the first tunnel they show you is short. the next one was longer and narrower. the last, i couldn't take it!! i was even longer and narrower than the rest. yeah you should check it out! =]
Truth is America did not lose the war, it was a political defeat not a military defeat. Yes the enemy was formidible, but look at how many died on each side and what victories were achieved and there is only one conclusion in reality. The reason America lost politically is McNamarra wqas determined to run the war from the White House. This is how every conflict has been run since the end of WWII, plain and simply put , it doesn't work.
Truth is we had no business being there. These poor people were our enemies? I spent 20 months at Cu Chi in 1969-1970 and I liked the Vietnamese I met.
@runescape44411 I was a reluctant participant in the Vietnam war. I was drafted into the army in 1968 for a two year term of enslavement. I was promised that if I signed up for a 3rd year I wouldn't have to go to Vietnam, so like a fool I signed up for that 3rd year. In March of 1969 I was sent to Vietnam under a communications MOS. I could have been sent anywhere they needed a radio operator or anything related to communications. Luckily I was assigned to the 725th maintenance battalion.
@laejnaek I had a friend who was there (Cu Chi) around that same time period. His name was Louis Marquart. I had a picture of him but it got ruined by hurricane Andrew. It was the picture of him being decorated with the Silver Star. He was with Co. A, 1/502 PIR or 1/503 PIR, 25th Inf. Div. @ Cu Chi. He passed away about a year ago here in Florida.
@hawwis I'll have to re check my memory because it might have been 2/502 or 2/503 Parachute Infantry Regiment; its been such a long time ago and was a time filled with so many traumatic events for everyone.
@hawwis I'll have to re check my memory because it might have been Co. A, 2/502 or 2/503 Parachute Infantry Regiment, 25th Inf. Div.; its been such a long time ago and was a time filled with so many traumatic events for everyone.
True humans know when they have been outwitted, so my hats off to the Viet-cong they fought bravely and with honor, though their tactics and methods are crude and many who had been there would say they were cruel, but war is cruel and the did what they could to survive. They were formidable opponents and made our american military stronger through our defeat. wether we pulled out or lost doesn't matter, we need only know they were not defeated.
While it is very true that the vietnamise people were creative in building the tunnels, the US won Tet, Idrang Valley Ka song and any other major battle in that War. Furthermore, if you look at Vietnam today with a market driven economy we have won the peace.
ive lived there for 3 and a half years and only just FINALLY did that tour a few days ago. its a LOT more popular now, with more buildings built and whatnot (for instance, a shack that surrounds the tank) and many more guns and its all more official and touristy. to be expected i guess.
The battle of Verdun (21 February-15 December 1916) was the bloodiest battle in world history! Not because of how many that was killed there but in the way they where killead and the amount of soldiers that was wounded or was reported M.I.A. there are still about 150 000 boddies around Verdun that has never been found. I have my self found lots of human bones there and I have helped burrie bodies that have been found on the battlefield.
And if you go out in the woods that nowadays cover the battlefield all the shellcraters, trenches, tunnels and barbed wire are still there. Not to mention all the shells and grenades that are still there. Every year atleast one or two people are killed by WW1 ammo because they try to get them selves a souvenir. These woods are still infected by gas and other chemicals from the explosives inside artillery shells.
In any battles, the side that has the local people will finally win, no matter how stronger one side is, compared to the other, and no matter how much blood shed from both sides. That is why foreign armies, invaders and their pupet goverments always have to flee in the end, after paying part of the lives lost and the suffering from the disgrace made by those who decided to barter those innocent lives, whether for energy or for any "strategic" occupation.
rite so instead of an american puppet government they got a russian puppet government. I do agree with the foriegn army holding another country. it can be done but the expense is to high. it will eventualy bankrupt you. So they got conned.
yes to some extent I agree. That's what they call a proxy battle, b/w communist block (soviet and china) vs. US and allies. Of course the guys who suffered the most were VN.
