  • KC the best chess commentator.

  • @kingscrusher I know this video is quite old, but in response to your question about the opening, I think 4 Bxd5 is correct and to be preferred over exd5, but White maybe went wrong a little with 5 Nf3 as it seems like you're gambiting a pawn for not much compensation, and Nc3 seems more solid.

  • @SeymourJoel I have a book on the KG which I don't have with me right now, but off the top of my head, as white I would play 4. Nf3 and plan to continue with moves like d4, Nc3, 0-0, Bxf4 if allowed, although it would depend on the set up Black chooses to adopt. One thing to bear in mind is if Black plays d6 and Bg4, then I think it's important for White to play Bb5 (even though you're moving the same piece twice in the opening) to pin the knight, as Nd4 by Black is too strong a move to allow.

  • can u stupid turds stop bitching about pronunciation?

  • Get the plumber. We have a huge shit clog on youtube. Kingscrusher uploaded another video!

  • "You're gonna lose anyway, you might as well lose in style!" hell yeah!

  • nice vid thanx

  • who gives a shit frenchies!

  • Although he is being a smartass, Gabe is correct. I've been speaking French for 10 years.

  • why not: 5) Nc3 to support the bishop?

can you give a line or two for a response to that move?

  • "En prise" is pronounced "en preez" and not "en pree"...

  • @gabe10033 Haha maybe to you - perhaps you should learn sone French pronounciation before posting on this topic.

  • @kingscrusher I just posted this cause I'm French ;-) even though I'm currently living in NYC. I wasnt picking at you at all, i think your videos are great, I just thought youd like to know how to pronounce it the right way.

  • @gabe10033 I can't believe that you're French and think that En Pris is prounounced En Preez not En Pree. It's the latter mate.

  • Comment removed

  • @jshnaidz245 The infinitive is prendre.....

  • @Rattlesnakemeuk Right, my french is terrible. Point is, you assume you know more than an expert+ if you look it up, it's en preez.

  • @jshnaidz245 Okay, I've asked French tutor, who's also French, who told me it's pronounced En Pree. Maybe it's a regional thing like accents. I dunno, but my tutor told me that she's never encountered anyone who pronounces En Pris 'en preeze'.

  • @Rattlesnakemeuk Maybe originally it actually was en pree in french but if you look it up in an online dictionary, you can hear the pronounciation which is en preez

  • @Rattlesnakemeuk It's spelt "en prise", which following the rules of French pronunciation (which I remember from school) "preez" would be correct. I feel a bit conflicted though because when I was growing up in England, all of the chess players I played with used to say "pree", so it does feel right to me to pronounce it that way even though I now know it's wrong!

  • @gabe10033 I realize this is from a year ago but... if you just thought he would "like" to know, then why did you put 3 dots at the end of your sentence? It makes you sound condescending when you do that. You're right though.

  • @kingscrusher it means "exposed to capture", and even though it comes from

the verb "Prendre" (to take), in chess

we say "en prise" cause we refer to

a "piece" which is, in French, feminine.

So you can say "j'ai pris ton cavalier"

(i took ur knight) or "ton cavalier est pris"

(your knight is captured) cause cavalier in

french is a masculine, but you say

"ton cavalier est en prise" (exposed to capture) cause in this case you refer the

word "piece" and not the word "cavalier".

  • @gabe10033 Thanks for the explanation!

  • @kingscrusher as i said and try to write it phonetically you say "en pree" but it is pronounced en "preez". In french -ise = eez. here is an English pronunciation of it mw4*merriam-webster*com / dictionary / en%20prise (put dot instead of stars in the link and click on the little red speaker)

  • @kingscrusher he's not wrong you know ...

I am french. En Prise (you would say pree if it was en "pris" ) is pronounced preez :)

  • @kingscrusher

I'm french and En Prise is really pronounced en preez, that said I always thought you were saying in prey.

  • @kingscrusher Sorry to disappoint you, but Gabe is right. I've studied French for 10 years. "on preeze" is the correct pronunciation.

  • @davidsmffei I just realized I already made this comment.

  • @kingscrusher Shut up up fucking cunt. We speak English.

  • "If u are gonna play against someone 2700 FIDE zou will lose anyway, you might aswell lose in style" hahahah I laughed so hard :)

  • When playing stronger players, sometimes "we never even get into the ring" - well said and true not just for us beginners, but even for a player as strong as Eames.

Great to see this kind of vid again on the KC channel!

  • auch ! That is a wakeup call. I play the kings gambit for fun with the bishop's opening and I really hope none of my opponents see this. I never really understood the idea behind blacks d5. It just did not look right to me, but no more. Oh my ...

  • at g5 why not night takes g5?

  • Wow, white is put in a world of hurt here, with black bishops carving down long beautiful diagonal, and his rooks bearing down on open files. I think the theme here is White's very "passive" play as you mentioned many times KC.

But yea I like the line , "Your probably gonna lose anyway, so why not do it with style". Hah, Well the Kings Gambit may be stylish, but whites play here is anything but.

Thanks for uploading these Kings Gambit games. The ones you showed was either a crush by B or W

  • the only time i'm gonna be playing KGA vs a 2700+ is sometimes never...

Eames's opening was Fischer's which is where i got it from and use all the time to often great effect vs 1800-2000 players. BIG mistake if they Q+ ...i'm all over them like a rash lol

  • Hi kingscrusher. In your video "How the Kings Gambit defeated World champion Lasker 1 of 2" the white player also took with the bishop, there you didn't call that a mistake.

  • @Sozialneutralist . I believe he was saying allowing the bishop to be taken off the board is the bigger mistake. He mentioned you don't really want to drop the bishop back, he said "but".."losing that bishop is suspect". So he's saying dropping the bishop back would be the lesser of evils, not that taking with the bishop is all that wrong.

  • @Sozialneutralist But the comments have to be taken in the context of the specific position. In that other game, White had already secured other advantages, so it didn't matter so much about the loss of the light squared bishop.

  • you mention the bishop taking the D-pawn being suspect but that's what was being played in the video you posted yesterday with lasker

  • Eames is a good player but Adams is monstrous-

  • Curious. I wonder if Eames himself had some plan behind Bxe5?

  • I love the sound of tragedy in your voice.

Great analysis as usual KC. Keep up doing this kind of vids.

  • How are doing KC? It's been while. Damn I miss your videos. Keep it up!
