  • I have the same phone, put the PB31IMG file on my SD card and it does jack when I do power down + Pwr. It goes to the screen, but does not install anything.

  • Thanks so much! I was so frustrated searching through xda devs and other forums. You provided the easiest and quickest way to recover. Thanks again!

  • my phone after i hit volume up for the reboot, never rebooted and my phone wont turn on. what do i do?

  • I down loaded all three files. The first one took me to a blank page. When I tried to unzip the second and third ones, it said that the files were invalid or corrupted. What do I do now? Is there another way to get the file?

  • Hey I was doing this... and it suddenly stopped and now will not power on, and only get the blinking amber light when it is plugged in. Im very new to this. If someone could help me that would be great.

  • I did have a good scare but finally was able to get it booted and it is working splendidly. I had to get a different ROM. One that was made for the LCD Incredible instead of the OLED. Scared me for a second but managed to fix it with help.

  • It work for me, but now my phone will not get updates. software number 1.22.605.0

  • @buffbeer1 Pull the SD card out and restart the phone normally and it should work ok

  • I tried to unroot a phone I already took off the Verizon network. I let the zip unload and install. At about 4:50, I restarted the phone only to never get it to turn on (sometimes 1 vibration, 3, or 5 and then a black screen). Oh well thanks for the tip.

  • nevermind. i repeated it and it worked the second time. Great vid!

  • At 4:58 when i reboot it takes me back to bootloader and i cant get past it... Any help anyone?

  • I thought I bricked my rooted Incredible running Gingerbread. I had a problem with a bad sd card, and it caused my phone to not operate correctly. I tried to reflash the gingerbread zip file, but it gave me errors. I followed the video, downgraded my phone, and then had to root my phone again before I loaded gingerbread again. All is well! Thanks for the video.

  • is there a way to unroot your phone but not loose all the other stuff you have on it. because i dont wanna loose all my other apps but i want to unroot it. please help

  • @yonifl2 Use an app called "AppBrain" It'll sync all the apps you have, so it's easy to retrieve them after the unroot. Unfortunately though, the data will be lost.

  • GOOOOD VIDEO!!!!

  • Zip file is no longer in the folder. Looks like you have to use SDK manager...can you clarify what this means? Thanks

  • thanks for making it so easy step by step!!!

  • can i do this if im rooted onthe 2.2 firmware?

  • very good video!

  • just forgot the part where you right click ur sd card slot click format and change it to FAT32

  • Sorry to double post here but I believe I found the problem - my phone still reads INCREDIBLEC XC SHIP S_OFF anyone know how to get it back to S_ON. Also having hboot .77 is fine or do I need to upgrade that too?

  • I have tried this about 10 times now, and it refuses to fully unroot my phone. It follows the same right untill after you tell it "yes" to reboot, and then mine will not show the phone with the green arrows going into it on a black screen, instead mine shows the HTC Incredible screen, has a black glitchy line going down it, and then continues to boot normaly, all fine and dandy right?..... except it never finds an update (I've given it 2 days) and it refuses to update manually (status 7 error)

If anyone can help I'd really appreciate it. Phone just stays off.

  • This will NOT work on the SLCD devices, infact if you do this it will brick your phone.

  • I get stuck at installing "PB31IMG.zip". Error message "Main version is older! Update fail!". I am using FAT32 SD card. Suggestions?

  • Hi, I have a question.. well I unrooted my incredible using this method.. everything worked perfectly.. the only problem is that I haven't got the 2.2 update.. • can i use this method if i used unrevoked on droid inc?

  • I downgraded and everything went along fine(i think) but i never got the notification for the Froyo update sorta like you did. Superuser and wifi tether were both gone after downgrade. Waited 2 days for the Update to come but it never did so i went ahead and downloaded the update file from verizon to try to do a manual install but the installation aborted. I updated my girlfriend's (Unrooted)Incredible the same way and hers did work. I rooted my phone again should i do the same process again?

  • I'm trying to unroot form Skyraider 3.2, and for some reason, it says

    "Update Failed!"

    "Older Version!"

Is it from flashing the radio rom onto it?

  • keeps saying update failed

  • thanks man you saved me.

  • I followed directions....still no update. Everything went as yours did. Did factory reset after following your directions, and *228 bla bla....still NO UPDATE. Any ideas? Please? Thanks in advance.

  • Went through process fine...however....I previously installed a different kernel. It is still there...not the stock one. Still won't recognize update. Suggestions?

  • Comment removed

  • A million thanks, mejdam, for your great help and thorough vids. REALLY APPRECIATED. Completely successful return to stock in just a few clicks-and-jives. Thanks again.

  • Everything seemed like it went through, but after restarting my phone to the hboot screen, superuser is still on

  • Comment removed

  • got an error saying that i am the current firwmare instaled in newer

  • you should also advise people make sure they have a nv backup as *228 does not work in extended areas, which many people are in.

  • thanks down i can downgrade so i am able to repair my ESN

  • I still can't get 2.2

  • @meeputube same here I get a status 7 error

  • @arnopoulos119087

Mine can't even find the update.

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH

I was having problems but I copied my sd card to a folder on another drive and formatted it as fat32 and tried again. It worked.

I was worried because I don't have any health insurance.

  • @meeputube

ditto. I went through about 3 websites trying to unroot my Dinc with no luck. Finally changed the format of the sdcard to FAT32 and it was up and running in about 10 minutes.

  • I normally don't comment on videos but having had an iphone and knowing the stress it can cause when it doesn't go smoothly or even work at all its great to find this was simple and easy, thank you for the effort you put into this!

  • Thanks! Helped me immensely!

  • Great video! I know you have 2 video's, one being this one and the other being the one that takes you down from the leaked OTA. My question to you is, if I have now downgraded to the factory 2.1 that I had when I first rooted (what I backed up before going to the leaked 2.2), do I need to follow the leaked OTA downgrade or this one?

  • Worked like a charm. Thank you for the help.

  • Is there a way to keep all of my apps on my phone and also keep all my "stuff" (pics.mp3s, vids) on my SD Card and still downgrade from FROYO to Eclair? If I reformat my SD Card won't it erase everything?

  • @romellibe i am having the same problem if you get a fix let me know

  • i manually downloaded 2.2 and it says main version is older! update failed. what should i do

  • @redlancers34 did you ever figure this out, i'm having the same issue

  • Can you also please make a video on backing up and restoring all your files and contacts after the unrooting? :D

  • You ROCK dude!

A tripod could be handy though :)

  • thank you very much! Saved my life after froyo messed up my rooted incredible.

  • So simple. Thanks for your help! You're the best. Now I can go load the real 2.2 on my phone!!!! Cheers!

  • Thank you. :)

  • Very good. Thank you very much.

  • @mejdam, No OTA after the Downgrade to put my software to 1.22.605.2. How can I fix this issue. No prompt after 24 hours for the OTA to 1.22.605.2. Please Help...thanks

  • U THE MAN DUDE I WENT STEP BY STEP WITH YA ALL THE WAY TO THE END!!! NOW I HOPE IT GOES THIS SMOOTH WHEN I ROOT IT!!!!

  • Thanks helped a lot! you seem to be the only one that knows how to do this

  • after downgrade, i did not get the system update. will that just come? and will that also put my software number to 1.22.605.2 to be able to install the 2.2 OTA?

  • Thanks man. Flawless work and super easy to understand.

  • how do u remove city id?

  • HOW TO FORMAT TO A FAT 32: Insert the card into your USB card reader. Open "Windows Explorer" located in the Windows "Start" menu. Navigate to the "My Computer" (right click your SD card). Click on "Format" at the bottom of the list. Make sure that the drive size option is set to the size of your card in the formatting window. Then, click on the "File System" option, and change it to "FAT32". Click on "Format" at the bottom of the window. Allow the process a few minutes to complete.

  • @jeremy350344 thanks! helped a lot

  • Awesome job man! Thanks for doing this - if you need a tripod message me lol

  • Awesome job man!

  • it doesnt work on my phone it just says somthing about being aborted

  • if i used unrevoked 3 to root will this method work to unroot?

  • When I download the files, I cannot un-zip them because the files are invalid. Any hints/ tips to what I can do to solve that?

  • @huskermania dont open it on your computer. copy it as the zip file as you downloaded it.

  • Awsome thx for the help. I rooted and installed 2.2 before i did this and then had to come here and start over from scratch because the GPS and Camera didn't work with the 1.x radio.

  • hey it will not load the PBIMG31.zip and yes i have it in the format FAT

    any ideas

  • Does this also downgrade the radio to the 1.x baseband if you've applied the 2.x OTA leak?

  • Does this also downgrade the radio back to 1.x if you've done the leaked 2.x radio update?

  • i had that but now i have droid x YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

  • Thanks a lot for this, my phone got screwed up after I rooted it and was crippled but this got it back to factory. Its really good of you to go to the trouble of getting this on youtube.

  • Will this also remove the custom recovery?

  • i didnt relize this would delete everything on my phone :(

  • You the man!! Thanks a lot for the video, worked well for me!!

  • Love you videos! Keep up the awesome work!

  • IT WORKS MAKE SURE YOUR SD CARD IS FORMATED TO FAT32

  • @trdracer21

My SD card is FAT32 and I think it's reading the zip file. some messages flash by then last one says something about wrong length.

    any ideas about that?

  • Does it matter that the PBIMG31.zip files you have posted aren't valid zip files? They're all corrupt (can't be opened in Winzip). The other OTA updates I've used were able to be opened...

  • Worked like a charm. Thanks a ton! You just have to make sure that your SD card is formatted in FAT32.

  • It worked 100%! Good on another successful video!!!. This video will be a lifesaver someday.

  • Great video! Just one question, would i have to change the kernel back to stock before i do this or would this install the stock kernel again? Thanks!

  • I used Unrevoked 3 and followed your video i dont know if i am doing something wrong but its not going through the rest of the process. I have the file on the SD card and get to the HBOOT screen and it just errors out still. What do I need to do? Thanks

  • can you do a hard reset? and the root be gone>?

    /

    /??

  • Okay so i cant get my droid to read the PBIMG31.zip to load like yours does. It just does nothing? I did everything you did so far. but does not want to load it. What do i do!? HELP!!

  • @jeremyrd1260 make sure you microsd card is formatted in fat32, then try again

  • @mejdam hey thanks for your response back, it actually did work. All i did was reformat my SD card to a FAT32! thanks so much. really helped a lot.

  • @mejdam thank you, saved me alot of grief.

  • @jeremyrd1260 I had the same problem but then I realized that I was copying the zip file in the wrong directory. My phone ended up with two new locations: the SD card and the internal memory. Just check the sizes as well as what mejdam wrote (fat32)

  • @jeremyrd1260 It's PB31IMG.zip and if u don't put it in exactly like that it doesn't work

  • Worked first try, thanks so much for this video. (Returning an old phone to Verizon for a replacement, and my last one was rooted; you saved my butt.)

  • Great job. I wish I would've known that everything I've done to this point would be deleted... But that's a small price to pay for 720p video recording.

  • Does this "downgrade" effectively Unroot?

  • "No image or wrong image."

  • My phone also isn't seeing the image. It's not working as intended.

  • perfect! i had gone trough so man different ROMs and tweaked with it so much it was just acting retarded! but this is awesome! once again thanks man! love learning/watching these videos!

  • much respect thx keep it up

  • hello well obviously im here to unroot my htc incredible i never could get any of the roms or anything like that working so i want to unroot it i followed the steps i pplugged in my phone changed it to disk drive put the files on it changed it to charge and i help power and volume when it runs the hboot it reads the files but says it cannot be found i really could use some help pm or comment back asap please

  • Are you able to reflash a custom recovery console to the original as well?

  • Very helpful, thank-you!

  • I am having the same problem where it doesn't recognize the zip file, I really need to get this thing unrooted!! HELP!

  • lt tells me wrong image. what am i doing wrong?

  • Thanks a lot bro turns out i didn't root my phone correctly the first time and your setup worked freaking perfectly!

  • actually like the moto droid if you have the manufacturers tools and software you can flash it bactk to the original image because thats how i saved my droid when i bricked it

  • I used your root video and got root. Didnt realize I had to remove Cityid before finishing. Trying to downgrade and no matter what i do I can't get it to recognize the PB31IMG.zip file on my sdcard. I even tried putting it on the other memory. Please help!

  • Comment removed

  • @mcswiebe no I gave up on that. Got the clockworkmod from unrevoked and was able to remove the city id, etc. with that.

  • what does rooting and unrooting do?

  • great vid helped me un root the incredible my friend gave me after he screwed it up!!!!!!!!!!! lol

  • Very informative!

  • Nice to SEE what to do, thanks for your vid!

  • good work. I appreciate it greatly. once the month long wait for incredible is over, I'll come to this video again. :D

  • Thanks for all the video's. Now that I know how to get it UN-rooted; I can ROOT it !

BTW, had no problem in Chrome getting your files.

  • hmmm. Well this is interesting. I was always under the impression that once rooted, it was impossible to go fully back to stock. I am impressed. Maybe I will re consider Root on my Incredible. Thanks for the videos man. Really appreciate it as a new member of the Android community!

  • I have only one request please put underscores for your file packages. Server hate spaces. I always fail to get the files first time. No disrespect, I applaud you for the effort.

  • @Chrisamberrahn wow i didnt know that

  • @mejdam hey thanks for your response back, it actually did work. All i did was reformat my SD card to a FAT32! thanks so much. really helped a lot.
