NO NO NO...Gene's solo album is Awesome, when was the last time you listened to it? The production and mixing of that album is something to learn from.
I have them all and revisit them. IMO Unfortunately for Peter at the time, he was stereo typed as the CAT from Kiss so Kiss fans would not accept his album as a listening experience they wanted to hear black diamond not AM radio stuff. That cannot take away from it's production, fidelity and large following.
Paul, it's just mushy Kiss songs, exactly what you would expect from him so although really good n heavy and produced, engineered with dynamics match by any standard...it gets Boring.
Gene seems too have taken another alter ego into the studio other than the Demon and did something equivalent to an Amusement Park for a record, your not going to just love it straight away, the listener needs to understand it first, not to mention the talent that is featured on this record it's underrated from that aspect alone,indeed many other reasons too. I don't love EVERY song.

I've heard Peter's ten times, Paul's about 50 times, Ace's about 500 times, and Gene's over 2,000: even though Ace's album was more rock-oriented, I found much more variety of sound in Gene's: the choirs, the violins, the effects, awesome! Besides, "See You Tonite" is my all time favorite KISS song, along with Ace's "New York Groove".

I used to have this performance on vhs. Their playing in Germanyt somewhere. Peter's version of Beth is classic! At this point Peter was far gone and his performance is memorable for the wrong reasons!!! Funny Shit!! Great stuff nonetheless!!!!!!!!
