Good audio on this. There was one on here a while back with a really clear picture. They were on some Japanese TV show (which seemed kinda strange, since it's an "American patriotic song.")
This is why Huey Lewis and the News are the greatest band that ever lived. They not only play their instruments like no other band, don't even need them to blow you away.
I just watched this after clicking on several "Worst National Anthem" videos. You should try it. The shock of going from those videos to this one will give you a brain hemorrhage.
everyone needs to save this and other versions to their computer because The Gov is going to change our great national anthem. They will find some reason that it is not politically correct. They have already raped our Constitution and the pledge of allegiance.
Very cool. Formative to my musical development. Tell your dad that some of us think this was a VERY important band in rock & roll history! Successful and musical don't always go hand in hand. They did this time.
@spinct83 Now that's just silly..I doubt HL & TN has as much fame in singing my national anthem in foreign nations, especially at a baseball game in America, played by Americans!
alot of people forget that this song was written at a time when americans were fighting for theyr freedom against tyranny....now, when i see the flag of america, i think of tyranny....our government and the people that support it, have destroyed america...this is no longer a land of the free, it is the land of oppressive government and dictatorship...a land where the government is the master, and the people are subjects of the master...the opposite of the america over 200 years ago
But this version, by Huey Lewis & the News, is by far the greatest of the greatest. Perfect performance. This is "THE NATIONAL ANTHEM OF THE UNITED STATES"
Best National Anthem version I've ever heard. Puts all the current singers who try to remake the song to show off their so called vocal talents to shame. Huey's solo gives me chills.
Actually, they sang the National Anthem at the 1987 Major League Baseball All-Star Game, played across the bay in Oakland, and then at Game 2 of the 1993 NBA Finals.
aw quality ntot really that good D: HUEY LEWIS SHOUD GET GOOD UALITY! I HUEY LEWIS FANS DEMAND IT! (lol ok it wsa cause theyre singing in a stadium mic but stil D: ..i saw when they sung in a jap show.. that qualitys better so IM HAPPY THIS VERSION OF s.s.b. IS HUEY LEWIS! adn nt some crap band..WOO!)
@cbs3153 I love it, too. You might want to also check out The Grateful Dead rocking out the anthem. They do a very traditional rendition and nail it, just lie these guys do.
Boy, that's fantastic. Did they do a Super Bowl, and/or World Series game too? Maybe the '89 earthquake series? I remember watching them and thinking "that's the best f***ing version I've ever heard!" Still is - w/ honorable mention to the Dixie Chicks Super Bowl.
Chris Hayes, the guitar player and composer of some of their best songs, (the guy at Huey's left with his hand over his heart) left the band in 2001 and is working on several solo projects. He has a new webpage and is doing great shows!!
the croud say's it all Mr lewises voice is one of the most loved voices around chills frome the croud responce wene he solo's and the timing is just a cu-t hair fast
The song is much better done at a faster clip, as it was designed. It drives me crazy to listen to prima donna performers slowing it down as if their voices are more important than the message of the song.
This is one of the best versions I have heard of "The Star Spangled Banner". The guys do a great job and it was very moving to see that one of them had his hand over his heart while singing our anthem. When we hear about so many people not knowing all the words to the song, while doing it in public, it's refreshing to hear Huey and The News do it to perfection. What a great video. One of my favorites. Thanks a million Mac for this video. - Paula
And thats how you do the Stars Spangled Banner

On key, too. And great harmonies. Some of those people I've heard sing the national anthem ruin it.

Best version I've ever heard. I CAN'T STAND when the singer(s) makes the the performance more about them than honoring America.
I thought they sang at the 1985 Super Bowl.
