I know some people don't agree with zoo's, but when I was a little girl in Boston, I remember going to the Franklin Park zoo and actually seeing and touching the elephants in person. Those memories are so important to me, and I appreciate having had the experience to see them up close.

The problem with zoos is that you put incredibly big & majestic animals like elephants, which like to wander 1,000's of miles, into areas of 50 meter by 20 meters, so all they do hour after hour, day after day, is walking back and forth, back and forth. I went to the San Diego Zoo a few times, while growing up, & such trips saddened me more than any thing, seeing these highly intelligent, social, & majestic animals being exhibited in such tiny spaces, all their lives, sometimes alone, too.
