But as life takes you on a ride the resemblance can be striking" The among of literary tools used here is remarkable. Look at the scenery, Life is taking you on a ride, liek your on a road, and the sound of the thunder and the actual lighting are so fast, so close to you (because when you see lighting and you here the sound later that means its far) and you see it striking, seems so striking?

If I'm not mistaken, my guess will be that he is talking about his dad because the verse " when I I was young I thought the angels cry" part indicates crying for someones downfall and he's young, and the verse " I said good bye a lot sooner, and I forced my self to cry," it all connects to his youth, and the last verse " everything will be okay but he lied, cuz it's still raining outside, probably means that he's still gon and he's still upset
