I own a modified mach z and I have my z1 turbo set at 290 hp for trail riding and I have to say this Cat is a freakshow. You will never understand the awesome pulling power of these sleds until you ride one. Hands down the fastest best handling sled I have ever owned, And I have owned them all!!
z1 turbos don't really belong in the mountains. They have the power thats for sure, but with all the fluid and a rider on board these things weigh well over 900 pounds.
@F5f7500 no its not the best experince for a ride retard my mach z 1000 is the best thing iv ever rode for a sled the only thing that came close to that is a apex
1) the only better looking sled is the 2010 F series Sno Pros.
2) I agree they are not the best sounding, There were a few guys picking on the sound of mine at the lake last weekend until I outran their supercharged Yamahas. Either way, there not as bad as those annoying gnat sounding 2 strokes with cans.
3) I agree with F5f7500 about the ride
4) If you even have to ask what the point of a turbo is, you just won't understand
My dad Killed a cat turbo sled with his trail sled so they brought out a full race sled on race gas on nitrous and only beat my dad by about 5 lengths
Agree. Plus most sled heads can't do dick as far maintenance to there 4-strokes. A Z1 turbo is pretty damn hi-tech compared to a big 2-stroke of yesteryear. I got a '97 mach z with mods from ten years ago and will whip the newest shit out there. I was always jealous of the Tcat and those extra cubes.
I'm not saying I'm not impressed. The gun doesn't lie... I have been doing this for a long time! Whatever it is, it's a stinking fast trail sled and I like it!
@JB101inc how does the stock z1 turbo compare to a stop apex? i got the apex now and i love it, but im still wondering wether i should go arctic cat this year
@MikeTauroRules All else being equal, a stock Z1 should pull an Apex handily every time, given that it's making 30 or so more hp with roughly the same weight. That being said, your Apex could easily be made to wreck a Z1.
@MikeTauroRules Form a strictly budgetary standpoint, a complete used MCX turbo kit can be had for $2500 or so on ebay. Say your sled is an 06/07, it's worth like $6k retail, or less on trade. So for $8500, you get a lake monster pushing 260 reliable HP on race fuel or 220ish on pump premium. Compare that to buying a $14k Z1, I'd say it's a no brainer. If you enjoy tinkering, keep your apex, there are many options out there. If you want a turn key sled with a warranty, the Z1 is the ticket.
Still not buying it. Asphalt and groomed snow are two very different elements. Any other stock rocket sled would be quite lucky to pull high teens in those conditions. Low teens are more realistic. To run those numbers under those conditions it would NEED some kind of work, like D&D's Hijacker... which would put it in the 220-290ish hp range depending on fuel and tuning. The Z1 probably is the fastest sled on snow, but not by 15mph.
Ill dust u with my srx 700

go ride up a mountain and you will understand the use of a turbo. na sleds make no power at 12,000 ft elevation.

in a Thundercat 1000 vs Z1 turbo id still have my money on the Tcat. big 2 stroke triples are where its at.
either way, AC 4 life.

yes it is stock
dfgfgdfgfgdfgfgdf 2 years ago
I'm going to go ahead and call BS on that. I've seen these things do that with some kind of boost controller.
I would believe 110 on snow from a stocker.... Very fast sled, but not stock my friend. :)
JB101inc 2 years ago
the rated the z1 turbo at 112 in a 1600 ft drag stock. so id say maybe 130, I could see that if u had enough room, and good picks and no crosswind.
Polarisxcr700 2 years ago
its very possible it is stock because arctic cat has had at 137 mph on the pavement
