But why are some of the birds so much further in growth than others?

Because they hatched on different days...

It doesn't seem like a couple days difference would make one bird densely covered in green feathers, whereas another bird hatched later would still have the sparse white fluffy feathers. Stargazrt4 has a timelapse video of newly hatched birds, and it doesn't show that much growth in a couple days.

I would think because they're laid and they hatch at different times. I think about a day or two inbetween them, and birds grow rather fast.

Needless to say, they are soooo cute! Yes, I think you will need a box with higher sides to keep these active little ones contained. At the end they reminded me of baby chickens running up under their mom! Thank you for sharing.
