painful ugly version - in the original strauss composed a very extended zither-part. here reduced in instrumentation in compensation for a stupid audience. sorry, strauss composed funny music, but his willing has be taken as a serious fact. strauss is not rieu, like mona lisa is not disney. greetings from a serious bavarian with respect for my culture, without leather-trousers
@strauchwerk Well In my very opinion, every director has his own style, and Rieu has his own funny and silly style, Perhaps he is not Strauss off course, there will no another Strauss again, but as you say, Strauss is not Rieu. I personally like Rieu's music, it's another point of view of classical music, I like it.
@strauchwerk Not ugly. Beautiful. Andre Rieu brings Strauss to the people as William Gates brought the graphic user interface to the people. (never mind that Steve Jobs invented it). Same for electricty. Who do you think of? Edison. Yet Tesla developed a/c the world runs on today.
@strauchwerk I agree with you. Rieu is a charlatan - an empty showman, not a musician. I hate his glitzy, girlie "orchestra" although they do play passably well - after a fashion - when they quit clowning around. Give me Willy Boskovsky(sp?) any day of the week. What really ticks me off is that this is the ONLY version I can find with the zither solo. Most versions take the lazy way out and play the part cued in the strings. IF anyone gave me Rieu tickets, I'd use them to light my cigar.
The zither player looks a little bit like the character "Newman" from the "Seinfeld" TV sitcom.
