Thank you for sharing. I am terribly sorry for you loss. I am not a mother yet but you have just taught me the most important information I could have ever received from this video. May your child rest in peace. Thank you so much! :)
All I want is to make a good descion for her well-being. I am only a teenager (at 16) so I do not have a job to go out and buy one as I have to focus on my life and my school work. My parents say that is it my cousin's choice to use a car seat or a booster seat (though my parents did buy that one cosco one just to shut me up). It was 40 bucks. I'm not sure of carseats laws in the state I live, but she is such a little girl at 26 pounds...All in all I just worry.
(continue from previous comment) Her shoulders on the harness are just at the top slot. Would it be safer for her riding in an improper harness car seat that goes below her shoulders or an evenflo booster seat that she is one inch too short for by 1 inch and 4 pounds too light to fit the MINIMUM requirements. This is saying that she does not figet while riding in the booster. I do know the best car seat is the one that fits your child and vehicle. So which is better the booster or the carseat?
Anyhow, I have a question to fellow people watching this video. I know of a child (my second cousin) who is 37 inches tall and weights 26 at 4 years old and 11 months. They have a booster seat for her that is rated for use at 30 pounds and at a height of 38 inches. So she is one inch too short and 4 pounds too light. They refused to buy a 5 point for her, so I made my parents go out and get a cheap one. Well The carseat installs with a marginal fit. (I tried latch and it was worse).
I am so sorry for your loss. When I told my parents how booster seats were totally unsafe for children younger than 6, they said, "it looks safe enough; it has a back." But when I showed them how well it fit your son kyle at 0:16, it shows that looks are quite decieving about how well a booster looks.
Very beautiful kids & I am so deeply sorry for your loss! I'm a mother of 6 & did not know this info, so thanks for sharing your story, even though I know it hurts to speak of it, but from your sons loss & you spreading the knowledge, you have just saved a lot of other little ones that the parents did not know. So once again THANKS & I'm saying a PRAYER for you & your family!
I am so sad right now. I'm sobbing for this boy and his family. I can never understand why families have to feel this kind of pain. I'm more sorry for this family than any words can say. I have two children and losing one of them is so beyond what I can imagine. I"m abosolutely getting a harness for my daughter.
Thank you so much for posting this sad but beautiful video. I'm so sorry for your loss. Your son is a beautiful boy and he will live on in peoples' memories because of this video. I am learning about car seats for my first child and your video is very helpful. Thank you so much and I send my positive thoughts your way.
In August 2005 my son was born and it was some time after that I saw your tribute to Kyle posted on BabyCenter. It is because of this tribute, because of Kyle that we kept both of our children extended rear facing and my eldest who will be 6 is still in a 5 Point Britax booster even though most of his friends are in the seat belt ones. Thank you for sharing Kyles story. I have thought of Kyle so many times over the years and I will never forget him, ever.
Wow, my little sister was killed in a car accident because her straps broke, this bastard also ran a red light and hit my four seat truck...Seatbelts are useless...
I watched your video and am so very sad for your loss. I have a 5 point harness Britax and have it anchored but not tethered. As soon as I press post on this message I am going outside to tether my daughter's carseat...Thank you so very much for this video. I also had been thinking of getting a booster for my husband's truck because it would be so much easier than switching her seat from my van to his truck. I won't be doing that either.....a million thank you's
Your video is the reason why my 6-yr-old is still in a 5-point harness that is tethered. I still come back to this video to honor your son. I still cry, but I pray you are doing okay now. God Bless Kyle! God Bless you for making this video.
I am sorry for your lost. I had my three year old son who is almost 4 in a booster seat because he was very tall and out grew the weight limit in my old five point harnest, after watching this video I learned that there were five point harnest carseats that he could fit in even though he weighed over 40 pounds. I bought him the Nautilus 3 in 1 car seat and it holds up to 65 pounds in the five point harnest! Have a blessed day !
Thank you for this. I was trying to find a booster seat for my 4 year old child with a 3 or 5 point harness. Now I might be looking for 2 new seats because I have a 7 year old too. You have to be a Mom to really get the importance of what you created here. Thank you for this ministry you've made out of your son's life. God bless you.
@Sasystar2098 too fuckin bad maybe ur mom shouldnt of put u in a 5 point harness and gotten in an accident and u got killed and yea y do u have to be a fuckin retart and say thanks to u to the lady who lost her son! honestly yea thanks to her im happy she put out his story and let everyone know how important these car seats r so yea SCREW U DUMBASS by the way my thoughts and prayers are with u to the miller family kyle was soo adorable and im very sirry for ur loss u guys will be together again
Thank you for sharing this. I was considering moving my almost 4yr old to a booster seat now that no.2 is along the way but you have convinced me otherwise. Kyle is a handsome boy and I'm sure he is in a beautiful place now.
Thank you for posting this video. I thought my 3 yr old was safe in his "big boy" booster seat :( I am investing in a Britax 5pt harness for BOTH of my children tomorrow!
i am crying my eyes out right now. i am so sorry for your loss . just know that kyle is looking down on you. i just wish the guy that hit you landed in a ditch, not you. you didnt have a chance at life yet and you deserve to. be safe with the angels in heaven little boy. you will see your mommy, daddy, and big sister katie soon :) rip little kyle! you will never be forgotten. your story will be alll over for many years, and thanks to you, i know how important a 5-point harness is for kids
What a beautiful child. Your loss will save so many lives. Thank you so much. I wish you, the survivors, especially your lovely daughter, every blessing.
The projected fatality data for 2009 places the highway death count at 33,963, a drop of 8.9 percent as compared to the 37,261 deaths reported in 2008. The fatality rate for 2009 declined to the lowest on record, to 1.16 fatalities per 100 million Vehicle Miles Traveled (VMT) down from 1.25 fatalities per 100 million VMT in 2008.
Your son is beautiful, I bet he's a handsome little angel in heaven. Thank you for sharing this video, it really made me shed some tears! I will be sure to show my aunt this, and we'll definitely get a new booster seat for my little cousin with the 5-point-harness. You could have just saved my 5-year-old cousin's life. Thank you.
im so srry about ur lose but if u have any video and or pictures od him i kan put them on dvd 4 u if u live in the United States or the same dvd region
I have no words. This is one of the saddest stories that can possibly be. I hope the message from Kyle's parents spreads to parents everywhere. Thank you for the inspiration and prayers for your family.
My son was born march 15th 2002 and my daughter march 13, 2004. Mary Catherine hates seat belts, I'll say "put it on right or I'll put u n a booster" I think now I'll get a 5point for her. That last image of the dummy is scary, broken neck and spine.. Death.
I'm sorry, as a mother of four I cry for u. But I'm also proud of u to share and educate others. As time goes on things change. (Pultos not a planet anymore btw, learned that a few weeks ago) KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!
My nephew 8 year old Cole Gabriel Forrer was killed 8 years ago this past Aug. because the seat belt cut his liver in half. He was a taller 8 year old and was over the suggested weight for a car seat and booster seats wern't spoke of much b...ack then. We don't think that a standard booster seat would have prevented the injury either but perhapse if this type of seat were known of back then or available maybe it would have. My life has been forever changed. So sorry for your loss.

My life has been forever changed. I am so sorry for your loss.
I purchased a booster for my daughter, who will be 3 in Nov. I think I'll take it back to the store & put my 4 year old back in a 5 point harness seat, she'll be safer. Thank you so much for your video. God bless you.
My deepest sympathies, and my warmest thanks for the information you've shared... incredibly timely as we were about to purchase the exact same booster seats as shown in your video from before Kyle's tragic accident for our 4 and 2 yr old girls. I can't begin to imagine your loss and all I can say is my utmost respect for the strength, character and grace you've shown by finding some positive from such an horrific event in ur lives. Much love and thoughts to you and ur family from me and mine. N
I cant thank you enough. Without your video I was about to buy a booster for my five year old son. Because of you I will find a larger five point harness. From only a youtube video you made a difference in our life. I'm sorry for all you have went through to have been able to made this difference.
I am so sorry for your loss but also want to thank you for sharing this vid and info.. Your sons passing can help others like me that didn't know. I have 4 kids ages 9, 6, 3 and 18 months and we just took my 9 year old out of his boost (without the back) and my 6 and 3 year old are in boosters with the backs on, my 18 month is in a 5 harness. I guess as a parent you think when they are of age/weight it's just the thing to do, move them to a booster but from your vid i now know different. thank u
thank you for this video wife has been telling me get a different car seat for are soon to be 3 year old son, i keept telling her not to worry but know i m the worried one and im going to change his booster seat to a five point seat thank you for this information and im very sorry for your loss i would die in life if something happen to my son thank you.
I am so sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing this. My daughter is in a Britax, and my second will be when she is big enough. (She is 5 weeks old and is now in a bucket carseat.) I will pass this one on.
my future step daughter was just killed in february by a man that couldn't stop for 2 seconds at a stop sign.. me her father and her mother are forever without her while he gets to walk this earth still. he ran a stop sign hittin a van makin the van smack into her mother's car and made her be life flighted.. we were in the hospital for just over 24 hours and lost brooklyn at 7:24 on the dot 2-3-2010.. your children and our brooklyn are forever in my thoughts and prayers...
I would like to thank you for posting this video. I have 5 children ages 10, 6, 5 ,3, and 5mo. 3 of my children sit in the same booster seat your son and daughter had. As of tomorrow morning I will be buying all new car seats. You have changed my life for the better and I'm so sorry it had to come as a result of a loss of a wonderful child. I wish you and your family wonderful healing and wish you all the very best.
The Sunshine Kids Radian XTSL will also forward face using the 5-point harness and SuperLatch to 80 lbs, AND can rear-face using SuperLatch to 45 lbs. My 3 y/o is 30 lbs and about 38 inches tall, and he is still happily rear-facing - which is the safest position to prevent spinal cord injuries. I am SO very sorry for your loss, and I commend you for using this tragedy to educate other parents.
First of all, my condolences to you and yours. Secondly, I am seeking all the info on car seats that I can get for my great nephew 15 months old. I do appreciate your video.
I commend you on what you are doing. I have a 2 year old and a 4 year old. My two year old is still in a harness seat but my 4 year old isn't, but after today she will be. This tore me up because of how old my kids are. It really touched me and many others. Happy early Birthday to little Kyle. May he RIP.
I just came across this video and wanted to say how beautiful your son was, and how much this has moved me. I am currently 24 wks pregnant with my first child, a boy, and I will never forget this advice you have given. Kyle will change, and must have already changed, so many people's lives.
this is a wonderful video kyle has changed my life. when i am in the mall and i see people with babies who dont have the chest clip at armpit level i go and tell them the right way then i give them kyles name and tell them they need to harness as long as possible
I first watched this video 2 years ago, and posted a comment then as well. I just watched it again, still hard to watch. We did purchase a Britax seat and I know that our daughter will not be going in a car unless she is in a proper seat such as the britax. Everyone should have to watch this!
I saw this video close to when it was first posted.
I still think of your family, and I did this morning again on hearing "Far Away".
Thank you for your ongoing commitment to making people aware of the importance of car seat safety. My son just outgrew his Britax Frontier (biggest he could be in in Canada).
My other son is smaller and will be in a 5 pt harness til he outgrows it too.
Bless you and your family, and your beautiful Angel Kyle.
I can't listen to that song anymore without thinking about this video. It's a shame they pulled the song. Isn't there a time when copyright should be overlooked? This is a very useful video. God Bless Kyle and his family.
I am so sorry the loss of your beautiful son. I just bought my 4 year old son a booster yesterday (even though he is only 36 lbs) because his baby sister needed his car seat and it was too tight for him. I am taking it right back to the store immediately and buying him a bigger 5 point harness seat. Thank you for helping to save the lives of many other children, mine included. God Bless You and your family.
i have 6 year old twins and they are still in the 5 point harness seats that are mentioned here; they go up to 80lbs. i researched this before buying a regular booster because i never felt comfortable with the regular booster, so glad i did...my heart aches for you, but thank you for this wonderful video..god bless...
your sonlooked like an angel. broke my heart to see this. you have a lot of strength and goodness to have made this video, thank you. and thank you from my little boy, for whom we're now going to buy isofix and 5 point harness. xxxxxxxx
Than you for opening our eyes, I am using the chair that my older son left for my new baby, just realized it does not work, will make sure to buy the proper one, thanx again and sorry for your loss, hes a beautiful angel
I was researching a new car seat for my last child, a 5 year old boy. The old thing in my van is 15 years old, shabby and too small for him. I was going to save money by getting a youth booster seat, but seeing the delightful face of your son....and feeling the pain of his loss...well a 5 point harness with tether and safety latch is on the way to my car. Thank you, and your loss is not all in vain. You have reached me.
hey - if you want to really see the full video - play the nicleback song "far away" in a different window then play this one at the same time. I have can't think of a greater way to honor your son than to save other lives. THANK YOU!
Im drying the tears from my cheek as I write. I live in Colombia and I have a 3 year old, Felipe, I was thinking on buying a booster seat because he is 30 lbs. now. Eventhough car seats for hildren are not required by law in my country (our cars dont even have a latch) I have always used one for him. They are very expensive here but thanks to little Kyle I will buy the 5 points harness no matter what. Warm hugs for you and your family.
what an adorable little fella, so sorry for your loss, thanks for the car seat awareness that you pass on, my brother is fireman and paramedic, it is such a tragedy that a lot of ppl do not realize could be avoided until after the fact, rip !
Im sorry for your loss, thanks for the tips, I will keep my baby in 5 points harness as long as she could. She's only 11 months and we got her two britax Marathon for both of our vehicles, but def switching her to Regent when she outgrows her marathon!
This video is what has spurred me on in so many ways! I purchased 4 regents! I have all 4 of my kids in one. My 9 yo, 7yo, 5yo and 3yo! Then on top of that I have been motivated to get more active locally! I have now become a CPST! I so enjoy my job knowing all children are safer when they leave my station then when they came! Thanks for your inspiration! Know you have touched SOOO many lives! Sorry for your loss mama! ((HUGS))
My son has recently out grown his car seat and I was planning on buying a booster seat. Just yesterday I picked out a booster, had an employee take it to check out...but left without it because something told me to do more research. Tonight, while on-line, your video was the 1st to come up. Thank you so very much for sharing your enlightening and very touching story. Ill be purchasing a car seat and using it for many many more years to come. God bless you and your family.
We have a 4 year old son. I explained to him about Kyle and showed him his pictures. Now, whenever he does not feel like bucklling up, he remembers about his friend Kyle (as he says)...and gets into his carseat. I am so, so sad for the unbelievable loss of your baby boy. Please know how much love surrounds you every day. You will always be in my thoughts and prayers.
I'm not sure how I found myself here, but I almost lost my nephew Jacob, who is now 16, due to a faulty booster seat. I can't imagine the pain this family has gone through, but if I could I would thank them personally for this message, not only did it touch my heart, but it cured me of just a little bit more of my ignorance.
ok so this is extremely nice to know thank you for the insight, it is also a little disturbing because teenagers who are no longer kids such as myself who cant use the 5 point harnesses should be worried then?
When my son was 2 years old, we were in a side impact collision and his Britax Roundabout kept him in place. When he turned 3 and with a new baby coming, I moved him a highback booster to save money frto om buying another Britax thinking it would be safe. After seeing, Kyle Miller Foundation website, I bought a Britax Marathon for my 3 year old. Now, my sons are 4 and 1--both are in a 5-point harness car seats! Thank you for letting us know the difference between these car seats!
It is best to also try to keep your child in rear facing as long as possible. In Europe, many countries make it law to keep your child rear facing up to 4 to 5 years. I'm going to invest in a Radian XT SL made by Sunshine kids (SL stands for safety latch and can be used rear facing up until 45 lbs and for forward facing 5 pt harnessed from 20lbs up to 80 lbs!!!
I'm so sorry about your loss. Thank you for posting here to let us learn from your experience. Prayers to you and your family.
It amazes me to see how many lives your family has saved with the wonderful information you so gladly share! Thank you for your time and effort in helping others keep their children SAFE in the car seats! My prayers stay with you!
i'm so sorry for the loss of your son. his photos are just gorgeous. i have a 4 and 6 year old and they are both in abooster, let me assure you first thing tomorrow they will both be in a proper 5 point harness seat, thankyou for sharing such valuable info...
Kyle has taught me so much I am 14 and the first time I saw this in 2007 I showed it to every person I knew with a child. It saved my little cus keegan when we rolled and the seat belt failed the top tether saved him without this video he would not be here The words are indescribable of how much i want to thank you
So sorry for you loss. You are helping others through your story. I am on my way to the website to purchase a 5 point harness car seat, anchored and tethered. Thank you and may you be blessed in the Lord
Actually Powder, a car seat would most likely not go through the window, it's too big and too heavy and awkward to make it that far. So while he still may have come undone from the seat, he would have been in a car seat and likely would never have been thrown from the car, and likely would have still been alive today. So no, while they are not God, they keep out kids amazingly safe in comparison to only being held in by a normal adult seat belt.
ok, he died because his seat belt let go. what holds in a child seat? a seat belt. so, if the seat belt fails, there goes kiddo out the window, strapped to a seat. I am sorry for any parent that loses a child, but car seats are not god, and they dont magically save kids.
I think these parents are talking about using the latch system, not the seat belt, but most vehicles can only use the latch system up to 48 pounds, so make sure you check your car's manual!!!
am so sorry for the lose of your beautiful boy, i have a 2 year old son and my heart breaks 4 u, but i want 2 thank u 4 sharing your story as hard and as sad as it might be, it should be a message 2 all parents it only take 1 time, and seconds 4 distarer 2 strike, and we need to take all the prostions we can and know of 2 protected our children even if other dont agree, or think were 2 over protective, parents do no best, and plz evey1 this kind of video been 2 be speard around so plz share it.
thank you >>>we are about to buy new seat and I have inssted on 5 pt..now I can use your video to back up my demands..God Bles you and your family.. and God be withyour wonderful beautiful boy.
Losing a child is probably the hardest thing one might have to bear and in Kyle's case, so many "what if" and "if only" to make it tougher still. Bless him. Have indeed highlighted this in a forum thread on RV rear seat safety and no his loss will not be in vain.
You can't replace him and you won't ever forget him but it does become easier to bear as the years pass. Don't blame yourselves and treasure the time you had with him.
this video is soo touching, i am soo sorry for your loss. people give me crazy looks when i tell them that my 8 1/2 year olds still rides in a 5 point harness, i will be asking them to look at your story, thanks and god bless you and your wonderful family
Thank you so much for sharing your heart-wrenching story and so children can be saved. I just about purchased an non-5 point booster for my 3 yr old before I saw this video. I'm so sorry for your loss, and so grateful for your video.
What happened to the song? That was the most effective part of the video! It makes me bawl everytime I hear it. If you were forced to remove it, we should petition Nickelback to let you use it. I told my husband when my son was just 3, I will dance to that song with him at his wedding b/c I will (hopefully) be so fortunate that nothing like this had happened to him when he was little. (Both my kids are in Britax Regent's, and will be until they are at least 8!!!
I am so sorry for your loss, And thank you for sharing your information with us on the carseats, I only wish I could afford one for my daughter. She is almost 40 Pounds, also wanted to add that yes the goverment should be more strict on the age of driving,,,,or atleast the abilit, I have been so close to being in a ferw wrecks because of elderly drivers!
WE just bought the Britax Frontier...REgent is discontinued I think at this time. Britax Frontier is also a 5 point harnessed seat that goes to 80 pounds and then can be converted to a regular seat belted booster up to 100 pounds and it has the latch system. Got ours at Babies R Us for $265.00, and they have 15% off any item coupons that can be used. This will be the last seat I ever have to buy!

I was just trying to search online to check the owners manual to my daughters car seat because I thought she should be using the booster part. She is 4 and 37 lbs. Her car seat says to use the seat belt at 40 lbs. We wont be doing that. Thanks for the tip on the Britax. My hubby will be annoyed, and he's the type of person who thinks things wont happen to us, but oh well, we will be getting that seat. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and Bless your family.
omg so sad i am very sorry about kyle i wish there is someway to bring him back he is so ccute u must be very sad i hve been crying for about 4 hours!!!!:::::(((((
I also see my son in these pictures. What a great act - to provide us the knowledge they wished they had been given. Our children are irreplaceable and ignorance can be so costly.
Thank you for your website! It has so much valuable information.
I researched and purchased the Radian 80 seat because of its weight capacity. His head bobs when he sleeps but upright position is preferred. I will be avoiding the booster seat and keeping him safe in it as long as the seat can hold him. Much love....
I haven't cried in years yet here I am sobbing like a baby... I see my own little boy in those pictures. You people are very strong, I could not survive losing my child. It would be the end of me and I wouldn't want to go on.. I love him that much. I'm so sorry for your loss and can't even fathom the loss you feel. I'm buying one of those seats for my boy when he's old enough, He's in the Britax Meridian now. Kyle is with God now. You'll see him again someday.
A britax five point harness goes up to 70 lbs. I am soo sorry for your loss. I was just about to sell my britax because my daughter (4) was approaching 40 lbs and i thought the harness was cumbersome for her and me. She WILL be in that five point harness until she can no longer fit the weight.
Please check your manual and the stickers on your seat. I don't know where you are, but in the US and Canada I know there are no Britax seats that go to 70lbs. They have convertibles that go to 40, 50, and 65lbs. As well as two forward facing only seats that go to 80lbs. Using the seat over the weight limit is very dangerous as the harness may not hold the additional weight.
The Britax Regent is forward facing and goes up to 80 pounds. We're in the US and this is what we have for our big 4 year old...70 pounds and 4' tall! We LOVE the Regent!
I'm so sorry for your lost, you have a beautifull boy. The message has past very clear, your boy might save my boy life after buying a booster chair at a garage sale, I'm putting that one in the garbage right now and will buy one with 5 points harness.
as the 5-29-09 day approaches some will grieve. be strong and know how many lived you are saving. kyle is a hero he is a big boy at 7 and very mature for his age. my grandma and grandpa are watching out for him because my grandma knew all about him before she went to see him. let god give you the strength to do 5-29-09. as hard as it is we will get through god bless you
That child of yours was a beutiful gift from God and i feel so bad for you i hope your daughter and kyles whole loving family can be happy again from this haroble tragedy God Bless You
What a beautiful gift you were given for three years! Thank-you so much for sharing this info...I WILL pass this along to my daughter and everyone I know with small children.
We bought one that is not Britax at Babies R Us for a lot cheaper for my husbands car. We did buy the Britax online and got free shipping and no tax. Good luck.
i have the graco netiouls(didnt spell that right) and it goes up to 65 pounds five point harness and then you can use it as a back or backless booster up to 100 lbs. i have it for my almost three year old daughter that ways 36lbs and i like it alot. it cost me 179.00 at walmart.
After watching this video 2 1/2 years ago, I rushed out and bought a Britax Regent. Thank you Kyle for teaching us how important it really is to be in a 5pt harness. I tell everyone with kids to do the same and watch this video.
Thank you for sharing your story of this incredibly painful loss of a child. We are using a Sunshine Kids Radian80 seat that is rated for up to 80 lbs with a 5 pt harness. My daughter is only 25 lbs and 16 months, but we plan to use this for many years in the future. Thanks again for getting the message out.
I watched your video a couple of years ago and was so profoundly moved by it. Words can't express the grace of your loving tribute in helping to save other children and spare their parents of an endless grief.
I thought I'd visit it again, but miss the music. I hope you can put it back on. It's just so beautiful. I can't even hear it on the radio without tearing up over your sorrow.
May God comfort and bless you this Holy Week and always.
How horrible....I am going to make sure I look into this for my 2 1/2 year old daughter. She is in a 5 point now as she is only 25 pounds, but if it is possible to keep her in one until she is 8o pounds, you better believe I am going to do it.
Thank you for going through the pain making this video must have caused, to save the lives of other children, it's such a selfless and beautiful act. I am so sorry for the loss of your beautiful son.
I accidently came across this video while trying to find crash test ratings for car seats. i was looking for a car seat for my 13 mth. old daughter. I thought my 4 yr old son was fine in his turbo booster but now i am going out to find him a new 5 point harness seat. i had no idea he could still be in a harness carseat still. thank you so much for posting a video about your son. i am truly grateful!
I am so sorry for your loss. I cannot express enough gratitude for the information. I was under the assumption that it was okay to put my 3 yr old in booster as well. I just purchased 2 today. They will be going back and we will be getting the Britax Frontier.
What a beautiful boy! My prayres are with you. I thak you so much for this video, I cried from the first picture on. I have been online shoping for new carseats for my kids and trying to decide, booster or expensive 5 point seat. About 10 seconds into your video the word expense had a whole new meaning. I will be buying the Britax. Best video!!! Thank You!!
While I agree children should be in a 5 pt harness until 5 or 6, I have one problem with the message this video is sending. It says that seat belts are unsafe and you should use LATCH - the problem with that is you can only use LATCH until 40 or 48 lbs - then you have to use a seatbelt to secure the carseat!
nope. Latch is the new alternative to seatbelts. The difference between the two systems is ease of use.
Seatbelts are okay for anchoring car seats if done properly. But Latch is recommended for their ease of use. Alot of parents can install car seats but 70-90 pecent fails to install them properly. For more information contact your nearest child hospital or police department for more information.
I am so worried. I am not yet a mother but my baby cousin rides with us some times. She is never in a car seat. She will be turining one next month.

@purplefreak954 this is not only dangerous, but ILLEGAL. that baby needs to be in a car seat EVERY TIME she is in the car.

I'm not sure of carseats laws in the state I live, but she is such a little girl at 26 pounds...All in all I just worry.
boneheaders 2 months ago
(continue from previous comment) Her shoulders on the harness are just at the top slot. Would it be safer for her riding in an improper harness car seat that goes below her shoulders or an evenflo booster seat that she is one inch too short for by 1 inch and 4 pounds too light to fit the MINIMUM requirements. This is saying that she does not figet while riding in the booster. I do know the best car seat is the one that fits your child and vehicle. So which is better the booster or the carseat?
boneheaders 2 months ago
Anyhow, I have a question to fellow people watching this video. I know of a child (my second cousin) who is 37 inches tall and weights 26 at 4 years old and 11 months. They have a booster seat for her that is rated for use at 30 pounds and at a height of 38 inches. So she is one inch too short and 4 pounds too light. They refused to buy a 5 point for her, so I made my parents go out and get a cheap one. Well The carseat installs with a marginal fit. (I tried latch and it was worse).
boneheaders 2 months ago
I am so sorry for your loss. When I told my parents how booster seats were totally unsafe for children younger than 6, they said, "it looks safe enough; it has a back." But when I showed them how well it fit your son kyle at 0:16, it shows that looks are quite decieving about how well a booster looks.

Powder, that's why you use a top AND a bottom tether, it's unlikely that BOTH would fail at the same time.
hazelsmrf 2 years ago 2
Actually Powder, a car seat would most likely not go through the window, it's too big and too heavy and awkward to make it that far. So while he still may have come undone from the seat, he would have been in a car seat and likely would never have been thrown from the car, and likely would have still been alive today. So no, while they are not God, they keep out kids amazingly safe in comparison to only being held in by a normal adult seat belt.
IGotJack 2 years ago
ok, he died because his seat belt let go. what holds in a child seat? a seat belt. so, if the seat belt fails, there goes kiddo out the window, strapped to a seat. I am sorry for any parent that loses a child, but car seats are not god, and they dont magically save kids.
powderedtoastmanman 2 years ago
That's why car seats also have a tether strap. Seat belt or latch + tether = car seat still in the car.
pbremiger 2 years ago
I think these parents are talking about using the latch system, not the seat belt, but most vehicles can only use the latch system up to 48 pounds, so make sure you check your car's manual!!!

It was expensive, but my child is priceless.
SventhHeaven 2 years ago
Please check your manual and the stickers on your seat. I don't know where you are, but in the US and Canada I know there are no Britax seats that go to 70lbs. They have convertibles that go to 40, 50, and 65lbs. As well as two forward facing only seats that go to 80lbs. Using the seat over the weight limit is very dangerous as the harness may not hold the additional weight.
mom2alyntimmy 2 years ago
The Britax Regent is forward facing and goes up to 80 pounds. We're in the US and this is what we have for our big 4 year old...70 pounds and 4' tall! We LOVE the Regent!

I'm so sorry for your lost, you have a beautifull boy. The message has past very clear, your boy might save my boy life after buying a booster chair at a garage sale, I'm putting that one in the garbage right now and will buy one with 5 points harness.
My blessing to your family.

It says that seat belts are unsafe and you should use LATCH - the problem with that is you can only use LATCH until 40 or 48 lbs - then you have to use a seatbelt to secure the carseat!
puglover333 2 years ago
