2) Shawnee's character was heavily advertised as "feisty and plucky," a "mucho grit and valor" type, yet she keeps getting eclipsed by Kevin Dillon's character throughout the movie, which is a real cheat. They even demote her from a "female Rambo" to a damsel in mid-scene...when she's already been upstaged three times over the course of the film! Which I didn't think was fair to Shawnee, her character OR the audience. Anybody else feel that way?

The only things I didn't care for about this movie were: 1) Shawnee's kid brother didn't really seem worth risking his neck for, which is to say he's not as brave or funny OR smart as he thinks he is...let's just say Will Robinson he ain't. Its a great movie, though it ain't for the feint of hearts. But it ain't screwed up since survival takes everything, and the blob which is a creature on its own doesn't have emotion to care of who it eats to survive.Same as we eat cattle young or old XD

Theoretically you could create the blob using a synthetic cell with a base line protein strain resistant to conventional stresses like heat, cold,radiation, chemical, bacteria and even nuclear pressure. Theres an organism that can survive in space and another in deep underwater sulfur tubes and another that can survive exposure to radiation. Combining all their strengths at the cellular level in the manner described has been something US bioweapons research has focused on. Wouldnt it be fun? :)

Notice the blob actually is strategic on it's attacks. Like it runs away from cold, climbed on the ceiling and just grabbed with it's tentacles while it was in the theater. It almost seemed to be inside that one girl then it busted out of her swallowed the other guy in the car. It almost seems to act like an bacteria or amoeba but allot more aggressive.

see in this version, the blob felt like a monster, in the original, i would liken it to a force of nature. it was slow, unstoppable and didnt really seem evil, more, thick. in this version, it was agressive, violent and much more animated. that and when it killed someone in the original, i didnt have a massive impact for me cause it just seemed like, "alive one minute, dead the next" but in this version we see it to be slow and EXTREEMLY agonizing. in my humble opinion, this blob is best.

that's the thing about this movie is that I can never get it out of my head. The old ones just look so fake but this is just so freaky its like Raiders of the Lost Ark mixed with Lava that's come to life. Another thing about it is, you can't kill it you'd need to keep it remain frozen at all times.

I saw this movie in 1988 when it came out at age 15 and it was disturbing then and it still is now!

The kid's death never got to me, I guess because it's so fast, but that first guy, Paul, I remember feeling queasy in the theater when that happened.

@Pidgeonrider It was a genetic experiment done by a secret organization hat ended up getting out of hand. The blob's single goal is to feed. When you are ingested by the blob you are digested alive through a highly corrosive acid. It has no remorse or conscience, and it can't be killed by normal means. The only way you can kill it is with extreme cold, where it will crystallize.

The cold just stops it. Varifying on the location it's frozen at is only temporary. If taken to the north pole (poor santa best not go f*ckin with it neither) or the antartica and left w/out bother it's pretty much permenitly stopped. So far theres been no way to literally kill it.

@Dim4323 Bullets and grenades wouldn't work because there aren't any organs to inflict damage on. The projectiles would just pass through it with no ill effect. Flamethrowers didn't work because even if you burnt one portion of it there was plenty of it to still attack you. If they would have napalmed it, it could have worked. And cold didn't kill it, it only froze it so it could be handled. Thawed portions were still capable of biological function as seen in the ending.

Dude, great tribute! I love this movie first off. This is a great balance of sci-fi, horror, comedy and action set pieces. This is top 5 favorite movies in general let alone horror/sci-fi. Just the the right amount of camp as well.
