The Cuban fighters, for all their greatness. It was limited to amateur. Sure they did register KO's with Andres Aldama and certainly Stevenson, but when it came time to mix it up. They were'nt up tto the task. Look at Soria right here. He had Spinks in the ropes , backs up and promptly gets tagged.
i got this whole fight but i dont know how to put it up on youtube....maybe somebody can guide me on how to upload this...with the great HOWARD COSELL broadcasting it..
@TheTzdope, thanks...yes, I found those fights. The Spinks brothers finals are split between two videos. GREAT STUFF. Watching Leon's final in 1976 really stirred me as an American...there was something about Leon's lack of finesse but never-say-die attitude that really struck a chord.
Thank you for posting this. What I remember most is that Leon basically turned this into a street fight and didn't let Soria fight at his pace. Great fight.
I don't think I've ever been so proud to be an American than when the ultimate over-achiever Leon Spinks, stopped Sixto Soria of Cuba to win a gold medal in the 1976 Olympics. Stirring moment, for sure.

This was one hell of a fight, I know it was amateur, but it was non stop action. A bit like Foreman vs Lyle. Just back and forth.

Great memory, the way Leon came off the ropes in a trot and tagged Soria.
Wonderful stuff. Thanks for posting.
