  • And finally the answer to the rhetorical title from a GCSE standard would the study of society, however at a higher level it would be best to describe it as an attempt to explain universal social phenomena. Hope you liked my comments Liz and possibly incorporate them into a lesson or two.

  • This along with the political ideology of Capitalism and the protestant work ethic brought around massive social inequality. It was in Paris that the term "they are from the other side of the tracks" came from, meaning the poor people who lived on the opposite side of the railway tracks to the rich.

  • As far as the question..."so are we all equal?" no we are not because it is not a meritocratic society and due to the social inequality brought about by capitalism. However, the opposite ideology of communism does not work as was proven by the USSR collapsing. During the enlightenment, Jean-jacque Rosseau, in his essay "Discourse on Inequality", identified that there are social inequalities within society. He speaks about how man began to possess things he did not need but what he wanted...
