The Lisbon treaty/constitution's "citizens initiative" shows us what post-democratic Europe will look like...a million EU "citizens" will be "allowed" to gather 1 million signatures and present this petition to the UN-ELECTED COMMISSION who are under no obligation whatsoever to do anything about it !
This is how far democracy has sunk in once democratic Europe....Gerge Orwell must be turning in his grave.
On something as constitutionally important as selling out a sovereign nations power to a 'foreign' state such as the EU the people should be asked.
An argument to the contrary not only devalues democracy but drives a horse and cart through the fundamental principal that it is the people who are in charge of the politicians.
If the EU is frightened of asking the people then it must ask itself where its values lie. It appears as if they regard the average citizens opinion as irrelevant.
Well I remember Havier Solana as the greatest Warmonger and for bombing of innocent childrena and women in Yougoslavia 1999! Not a sign of a Humane being in this Best Havier Solana. Now this person rules alone both USA, NATO and ES!
The next Bond movie sees James battling a dark, pervading force at the heart of Europe called `The Commission´. In an attempt to destroy the last of the `Six Treaties ´, he goes to Ireland,France and Holland but is beaten up by a huge gang of burocrats and extradited to an Albanian prison by the European Public Prosecuter called EPP.
He manages to escape and confronts the un-elected president of the commission on the rooftop of the `parliament ´ in Brussels.
The EU is absolutely paralyed as they can't please everyone. Humans are individuals and will never be happy being forced to live as one group just to make it easier to be enslaved by one leader. Ask yourself; What is the purpose of only ONE GOVERNMENT? Why is it sooo important to them? When your neighbor can entice your people with better ideas for living and for Govt, you get rid of the neighbor or you lose your power. God Forbid that should happen. Wake Up Europe..
Tell me, who elects the euaropean government and how long do they remain in office? I'm not talking about individual MEP'S I'm talking about a two party democracy! Furthermore, say that the super-state makes a decision to the detriment of the UK that you wish to protest over and dispute, are you going to go all the way to Brussells with you plackard to protest?
The EU is what is known as a 'transnational bureaucracy' the government itself is not elected, there are no seperate opposition parties
Next July the European election will take place all over Europe. The Europeans can vote to elect the European parliament, which is composed by many parties, from the right to the left. Many of the members of the E Parliament are against the European Union So there is opposition in Europe.
The European Parliament is elected for a period of 4 years. The same for the EU commission We need the British engaged in the UE political process. WE NEED YOU IN EUROPE.. so please, put a side your criticism, and give us some help to build a more United Europe
I would sooner see the world go up in flames than support a united europe. Democratic elections of the sort that you speak are pointless. Europe, I will define as a democratic dictatorship.
A United Europe is for the best interests of the UK you are more influent in Europe than outside I hope the next EU commission President will be a British top politician in order to give a new impulse to Europe, and bring some of the political culture and British efficiency to the commission...:)
No, we need individualism, emphisis on different cultures, celebrate all our great seperate and interesting traditions. All governments should be local to their peoples, not 1000 of miles away and removed from our reality.
The EU has been in many ways more efficient in Europe than many national governments! In the last decades, the European commissions have putting in place many programs to developed and modernize Europe! Better than many national governments! I m for a multicultural, multinational, free democratic and prosperous Europe!
Polish president Kaczynski fought for more democratic EU, he wanted change countries vote so that bigger countries will have a lesser vote power (Poland too) and smaller like Holland or Czech will have more to say.
We were biotched! Second our president isnt ratificating Lisbona threaty coz reland said NO. Whats more EU law says if any country said NO then NO. Simple....
Article 33,paragraph 6 of the Lisbon Treaty allows the 25 members of the EU executive the right (with only two exceptions) to change or declare null & void ALL rules/regulations/laws present in existing treaties relating to..... economy ;tax ;civil society ;environment etc.
« Sorry,this is a dictatorial constitution » (Prof. Schachttschneider, University of Erlangen-Nürnberg).
« The EU can lawfully suppress political criticism of its institutions and of leading public figures «( European Court of Justice ruling 2001 ).
The European Charter of Fundamental Rights (art.2,passage 2c) states that lethal force can be used against EU citizens to quell.. "rioting, civil upheaval ».
The same Charter does NOT mention the right of EU citizens to VOTE.
And now on to my point: All women and men deserve the right to be informed and make educated decisions. These issues are the domain of the average man and woman, in centuries past these very matters of governance and freedoms were fought for to bring about a fair and just society. If you believe centralised government leading back to the UN will provided you with greater freedoms and rights you are sadly mistaken. Yes UN because the EU is a precursor to globalisation.
It´s not too late,SAVE DEMOCRACY in Europe SIGN THE PETITION for a referendum at : X09"dot"de
One example of how the (un-elected) 25 EU commissioners are deciding all of OUR futures in Europe :
"Next year (2009) could see Turkey make a crucial step forwards on it's path to EU membership..." (Enlargement commissioner Ollie Rehn).EVEN THOUGH a substantial MAJORITY of both Turkish AND European citizens are AGAINST Turkey joining the EU !
On behalf of all European TAXPAYERS,...I hope all European Union employees had a wonderful Christmas (at our expense), as you do each year.
We also hope that the 45 MILLION Euros travel expenses paid to you technocrats ( by the un-elected Council of Europe)...was enough ! Don´t bother with reciepts and if you need more next year, don't hesitate NOT to ask us. !
Happy undemocratic New Year !
VOTE in the June European elections for anyone willing to fight EU corruption.
If the Brits don't want more integration, I suggest they leave the EU!
The referendum in France just showed that people are misinformed and are not qualified to decide for this kind of thing. They said no to a 400 pages treaty none of them had read, and very few really understood what it was about. It this case, democracy says that you have elected a guy who is more intelligent and informed than you are, so you let him decide what's good for you.
You're right, when do the people get a voice? They've taken us in to very dangerous waters. The war criminals, and the political whores of the EU dictatorship have to go!
Good luck Eire - Get the truth about oppression and the denial of democracy that is the centralised EU to enough people to vote NO & regain your liberty.
Membership of the EU has been a catastrophy for Eire raising hopes and provided a brief boom just to be used as a bribe to dupe the British. The wars of disassociation are coming sooner rather than later and will be hideous - Vote NO leave NOW.

When the UK electorate vote a government into power we are entrusting them with all our rights for a short period. At the end of that period we expect these rights to be returned to us undiminished for us to pass to the next government that we elect. Governments should NEVER give away our rights without our express consent.
Well said ViewPointUK. See also video "Gordon Brown opts out of champagne at EU Summit". Gordon is obviously feeling very pleased with himself for side-stepping the democratic process.
It's a pity that the rational debate on Europe is often drowned out by the loud kicking and screaming of fearful, ill-informed and frankly ignorant hypernationalistic voices, especially in the UK.
