305 is a good dependable motor but not really a hard hittin muscle motor. if they breathe though, they aint too bad. i really like the 350 because so much can be done to it to make it a really nasty small block

at the wheels? well still if not that's about 1.2... per cube. you can't bitch about that, and it is funny how much 300-ish is at the wheels really. i've had my share of 600 hps, so i got room. i had a 305 in a 62 Chevy II and i was eating 350's and bigger motors up, yea it only weighted 2800/2960 but that was still an ego blow, and i was doggin it and only slacked out the timing chain at the end. note it was nothing to that 360 replacement but good for a first motor

the 305 and 350 made the same power in the late 80s the tbi slighty less and carb was low 155 but for that era a 5 liter pushrod motor making anything near 200hp was good

i got a 86 and 76 caprice and a 88 cutlass and the 86 has a 305 i heard if you try to mash the gas tomutch or try to make a pefromer it is likely to throw a rod

nice motor. 305 are very reliable motors and if you got the time and money, they can be peppy little motors. some people actually stroke these to a 334! and then some if you bore it over...

Naa. 305s are good cruisin motors and don't eat up much gas.I have an olds 87 cutlass w/ a standard 307 ci v8 4bbl. Everything is original. The book rates it for about 140-150 hp and I can get a pretty decent burnout, with the brakes. I'm gettin about 17 mpg out of it. Not a race car though, but who needs a bigger motor anyway other than show-offs or race car drivers?

A lumpy cam just so you can hear a lope is pointless. It will hurt performance if you don't build up everything else to match it.
