Anybody who thinks Fritz von Erich was a better German than Von Raschke is a knucklehead. Baron was hugely popular not just in Minnesota but also Chicago, Milwaukee, Indianapolis and pretty much the whole Midwest. He was also a very strong challenger for the WWWF title when Sammartino held it and an accomplished amateur wrestler. Von Raschke could actually speak German whereas Fritz didn't have a clue.
I can't believe I used to actually watch this every Sunday and pay to see them wrestle at the Denver Col. downtown whenever I could afford tickets!!! I was only 11 yrs old back then!!!
The Baron was a very over rated wrestler, his mic skills were poor, his wrestling skills were average and that stupid grabbing the wrist. Fritz Von Eric took the German thing and was great at it.
@mrbluto3 I agree. No disrespect to him but yeah, he was overrated, the only place where he was a huge star was in the AWA, when he went to Jim Crockett Promotions or Japan he wasn't really popular.
@JonathanVonErich Actually I've been taking a look at his bio on wikipedia and it looked like he did pretty well when he worked for Crockett: 2 time NWA Television Championship, 3 time NWA World Tag Team Championship (Mid-Atlantic version), and he did hold titles in other territories, NWA Georgia Heavyweight Championship, NWA Florida Television Championship, IWA International Heavyweight Championship in Japan: Of course that was all back in the 1970s when he was in his prime.
@DotDotkins Well what I wanted to say is that he was really over only in the AWA, in my opinion his character wasn't really popular in JCP or Japan, but thanks for sharing the info, if he won all of these titles then perhaps he was more over than I thought...Don't get me wrong, I think he was an awesome heel but to me he is a legend only in the Minnesota area, but I agree that he had a great career. Thanks Dot, you are the man. :)
I think he would have made for a great porn star with that robe and accent. Imagine him doing the goose step before a scene and applying the iron claw to the girl afterwards.
What I love about Raschke was that heel or face he was basically the same in persona, move set, attitude.. the classic example of a heel that the crowds always turn face because they love the guy!
He sounds more French than he does German...

Where does it end? After the Baron beat Charlie Brown it'd just be a case of Snoopy looking for revenger.

Loved the Baron and for my money, his version of the claw (complete with goose-stepping prelude) was the best!

I believe the Baron was a face at this time in the AWA but came in as a heel to face Jimmy Valiant AKA Charlie Brown.
