Optometry has come a long way from 1899, when you just required a short course of three months, and then obtained a retinascope, and a trial lens kit. Today, it requires 4 years for a B.S., then 4 more years (at $20,000 per year) to get qualified as an optometrist. This is an expensive profession to enter in my opinion.
Step 1: Do your research and discover how awful the career potential is today.
Step 2: Figure out another profession that will actually be able to provide you with a good career after graduation.
Step 3: Pursue that education and live happily ever after.
Optometry won't provide you with anything but a guaranteed wal*art job, low pay, and difficulty making your student loan payments. Watch this video for the truth.
