wrestling is great for takedowns,judo for throws,and bjj for gound game, at my bjj club we do as well wrestling takedowns, if you want to be well rounded fighter you need one striking art( muay thai) and other 2 grappling arts.

lol for those who say greco-roman is not useful for street fights: It is, actually. Usually, idiots who think they can fight try to punch you. You easily dodge that, come back a little, dodge drop, fake step, pretend going left but go right, grab him from the back, raise him up a bit, throw him down(make sure he's landing on front), and then either headlock his ass or keep punching and choking him. :/. And that's the simplest move, lol. if ur skinny, use fireman carry a lot. :)

I like the beginning when they show you the wrestlers walking out onto the mat and you can see what their appearance before they start wrestling. The closeups of the action during their much make it better to watch. Then at the end you see one wrestler's arm raised in victory. Great!

Wrestlers usually dominates over the Jiu jutsu guys in MMA...Wrestlers that learn submission defense, are lethal..just take the guy down, hold him, and do some devastating Ground and Pound..Greco Roman wrestling is one of the best base to have in MMA.

i can't completly agree with you there morgall...wrestling is a great base.. but the submission game is bjj...so what you see are wrestlers becoming bjj exponents to a degree..they have to learn bjj to defend against it.. look at mat hughes..he trains bjj to compete and does it really well take the bjj away and you have a guy like dan severn...they can pound away and control till they get caught in a sub...now take randy against nog..nog destroyed randy on the ground.. to be cont

Randy got sweeped cus he let loose his wrestling base, any good wrestler can hold a submission guy down..And wrestling takedowns are used commonly in BJJ, its already adapted in bjj, double legs, singles, armdrag, greco roman clinch aswell..so for a wrestler to learn some submission defense just makes it more even between them in a fight.

How about this, I do every single grappling art I can get a hold of, including wrestling, but I did Judo first. And when i got in my gym, the first match was a wrestler, he shot, I crossfaced him, hot his face up, then uchi mata'ed the shit out of him, and Kimura'd his ass. Wrestlers aren't everything, they deserve probably the most respect out of every grappling art, simply because of the shape they are in, their base, and desire to not give up, those make a deadly grappler, no matter what.

I've been doing BJJ for years, but I consider the other grappling styles to be just as good. I'm better at some things, they're better at some things, but you have to know it all if you want to be a complete grappler.

We're not under some illusion that BJJ is all you need to win in grappling.

Freestyle and folkstyle are a lot a like, but in freestyle, after every takedown and if no scoring occurs in about 15 seconds, then the ref brings you back to neutral where you're both on your feet. In folkstyle, you can ride your opponent as long as you're doing something otherwise you're called for stalling.

Greco is completely different. You can not attack your opponents legs, and you can't use your legs to defend yourself from being thrown.

Greco and freestyle are a lot better than folk style. If the US switched to freestyle, the US would win 75% of the gold medals in both styles at the Olympics. Folk style does not have nearly enough action.
