Anyone curious why this YouTube hero, oberstd9, didn't simply mention his concerns to one of the firemen or the officer-in-charge of the company? Why take a video and post it online, implying that there was something inappropriate being done? Answer: he's a coward.
Where is the problem here? Firemen work long shifts and have to eat, just like you! They eat meals together like a family. They are out in the community, interacting with the community and spending money in the community. They're presumably eating healthy since they're not at a fast food place. If there is a fire or a emergency they are available for runs (they have those radio thingys) so that they can risk their asses to save yours. Get a life you moron!
JOY RIDE!! first of all were required to drive the trucks anywhere we have to go on shift.. or would it be easier for us to get a call to save you or a loved one and have to drive all the way back to the station to get our gear and truck THAN come help you?? shut it down...
Wow. Really dude? You might as well take this vid down cause your not going to find any likes about this. Obviously you know nothing about FF or you wouldn't have posted this. My husband has 11 years in the service and you have no idea what they do or see on a daily basis. And one day you will need their help and fortunately for you they will still be there to help you and I hope you feel like a real ass then. I could go on but you may not "get" it and you may never..
So, let's see. You've got a video of a few firefighters in their heavy gear, shopping for food in their area, no one is smiling, and no one is playing on the fire engine outside. Your caption is that 'ladder truck 255 takes a joy ride.' Just stupid.
Wow, this guy is a real whack job. Everybody read his comments and replies and have good laugh. It's kinda sad really. And oh yeah, I am fireman... 16 years and counting.
@sbenson43 Yeah... we all know the firefighter exam is much more difficult than gaining admission to Harvard. Also six months training in the firefighters academy is the equivalent of a Master's degree right??? How convenient fire fighters work 24 to 48 hours straight. Ever wonder who's porking your wife while you're working? What's that strange smell in your bed or those stains on your bedsheets? Just tell me how's your wife and my kids??
@footbase199 Hey sheep faggot...I'm not into homosexuality and/or beastiality. Moreover, I'm not the one swapping spit and holding hands with other men in the shower. So go back to brokeback mountain...your sheep are getting lonely.
what are the ppl that serve our city not aloud to go out and buy food for the station house and if u look they are in full gear so if they are called they can respond. as a fire fighter my self i take offense to ur lack of respect for the ppl who risk our lives to do what most fear
@iths5222 correct me if I'm wrong anywhere in my argument. Firefighters are required to obey all the laws...correct? That means all traffic laws when not on an emergency...correct? A food run is not an emergency...correct? The firetruck was parked on the wrong side of the street and faced oncoming traffic...correct? They broke the law in a non-emergency situation and they should lead by example-So I rest on your face!!! Finally, if you give respect you get respect-they were disrespectful.
No but i bet it turns you on, and i definitely dont live under a rock like you because i know that firefighters go to the grocery store to get food so they can eat you fucking retard
@footbase199 Don't flatter yourself I'm not a voyeur and even it I were, I would not enjoy watching you suck wooly sheep dick and taking it in the bum at the same time. I 'm sorry...I forgot you moved out from under the rock to BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN. Yeeha!!! git along little doggie!!!! Maybe the next time you go to the supermarket you could get some food from the bathroom. I'll leave you a hot dog and beer personally. I know you don't mind eating and drinking from the same bowl.
@oberstd9 Hey you sheep molesting faggot you obviously have a lot of time on your hands so why dont you check out my other fire fighter videos. There's one where two firechiefs shot a junior firefighter nine times with a taser during a christmas party. Another video where the FDNY retaliated against a lawsuit by placing a noose in the locker area of an FDNY electrician. Or, another where the firefighters engaged in numerous improprieties.
How about before you criticize us firefighters try walking in our shoes for 10 minutes. You dont have the balls to go in a burning building all you can do is sit behind the camera, and talk shit
@LWxJOHNx01 Hey wiseguy I'm curious...Are you viewing the video and posting your reply from inside the burning building while fighting the fire? Can I call the Guinness Book of World Records because you can obviously talk out of your asshole!!!!
once again douche bag, i dont have sheep unless you count your mom as a sheep then hell yeah i have sheep in my house, so you go back to your dull boring life of working at McDonalds and dont worry about what real men are doing. Thanks fuck stick
@footbase199 Hey you Animal Molester my mom is getting pretty old is that how you get your rocks off by fucking old people. You know at least the FDNY firefighters in the Bronx raped a young chick in their firestation they nicknamed "Animal House." But you fuck them with one foot in the grave and have the audacity to call yourself a real man? Shut you fucking pie hole and crawl back under the rock you came from and keep sucking those little wooly dicks you do so baaaah. Does that turn you on?
@ffdeadhead Hey dead head...the nueral synapses in your brain have dehydrated. In other words you're BRAIN DEAD!!!! If I want anymore shit out of you I'll just squeeze your head.
@FirstDue We're not even scratching the surface yet. By the way when you get home could you return my watch to me-I left it under your pillow. I'd ask your wife to do it but she's probably in the shower washing my cum out of her hair
?? I'm at a loss, they are grocery shopping for their meal. They have to take the fire truck to go shopping in case they have a call. They are still in their response area. I see this where I live and I do not live in NYC, this happens everywhere across the country...to me this is common sense. How in the hell is this a waste of tax dollars? BTW - You're an idiot - even I can tell that is not a ladder truck or 'Ladder Co. 255' as you said. That's a fire engine nitwit and I'm not even a fireman.
@RLTW1093 Wow you are so smart!!! I bet your mama's real proud of you. You know terms like "response area" "ladder truck" "ladder Co." and "fire engine." and you say you're not even a fireman. And you're so well traveled and knowledgable about what happens all across the country too...Stop you're killing me, I gotta catch my breath. Could this be true? Are you the real Homer Simpson from Springfield? Can you say nucelar for me??? Wow I can die now cause I met the real Homer Simpson-you toon
@oberstd9 Hey Homer just out of curiosity answer this for me. If there is another fire station right around the corner from the Shop Rite and, there is only one Shop Rite in Brooklyn (you still following me here??) then how can they possibly be in their response area? (Keep in mind the city and FDNY do not place multiple firestations in the same precinct) I hope this wasn't too much information for the little monkey banging on the tambourine inside your big hollow head to get overloaded.
How dare these firemen eat or get food to cook!!! If my house is on fire and I am trapped inside, I expect the responding men to by starving and malnourished!!!! I'm sure if there was a call they would of just kept shopping and maybe looked at each other and said ehhh this can wait... Really this video is just ridiculous, get a life! maybe research how to give ten minutes of other peoples lives back (approx ten minutes, to be specific) because, I am very afraid that I will never get those back.
@kyleismoreamazing You are way off on the point of the video. So much so that you really should consider changing your screen name to something more suitable like "kyleisreallyafuckingmoron." If you really want to save 10 minutes of your life here's a suggestion-don't have sex 20 times. But seriously, you should check out my next video titled "The true firefighter brotherhood." I promise you wont be disappointed. All the best!!!
@oberstd9 Oh by the way kyleisreallyafuckingmoron, if you really are interested in saving time on your life...you could have saved the 3 hours it took you to post your original reply. Once again all the best!!!
Personally, I am disappointed. No commentary? A useless boring video of people shopping. If you are so outraged, why didn't you ask them what they were doing wasting taxpayer dollars? If your goal was to get them in trouble I am sure you might have gotten some colorful replies that maybe, just maybe some FD Adminstrators might be interested in.
Ha ha...nice video, you stupid dumbass. Way to have it backfire on you! Do you have any idea the length of time firemen spend in the firehouse?? Are they not supposed to cook their own meals? Or do they have to eat at McDonalds every meal?? You fat piece of sh*t....
@backdrft76 There is no such thing as bad publicity. However, a simpleton wouldn't know anything about that. We all know the truth hurts and I obviously struck a sensitive nerve here. So, did it backfire? Absolutely not!!!
90 dislikes? No likes? I spend a lot of time on youtube, and I've never seen that. This must mean, that you sir, are a dumbass. I wish departments were allowed to stand up for themselves when shit like this happens. "Oh, your that guy who thinks we don't need to eat, well we don't think we should waste the water saving your house...."
@SeanBlackPhotography Oh what a surprise another brainless, useless firefighter whining like a little girl. Do me a favor use some water and take a shower you filthy smelly dirtbag. Practice safe sex and keep your soap on a rope around your neck you Kansas City Faggot!!!
@oberstd9 Its fucking pieces of shit like you that degrade not only fire service, but the world as a whole. I hope you sleep well at night knowing that the people you hate are the same people who would save your ass and not judge you.
@SeanBlackPhotography I'm sorry you think I hate firefighters. I really respect them for the job they do-I just dislike abuse of office. But if you really want to see true "pieces of shit" then may I suggest you check out my next video titled "The true firefighter brotherhood." Perhaps it will change your opinion on who really degrades the fire service and the world as a whole. Enjoy and all the best!!!! Oh and please feel free to leave a comment afterwards.
@SeanBlackPhotography Nearly 5,000 views and only 90 dislikes by brainless, self centered ego minded firefighters. Not too shabby. This exceeded all of my wildest expectations.
I guess oberstd9 doesn't eat. Wow, of all the things to worry about. I think oberstd9 needs to get a job or a life, or both. Pretty bad when society has come to the consensus that firefighters can't eat, and teachers are overpaid. Meanwhile, we spend over a billion dollars a month fighting two wars in the middle east with no actual definition of when we win, and this isn't a problem?
@fyrmun37 You're a pathetic ignoramous with the intelligence of a marble! Events happening around the world directly influence our everyday lives. If you don't like this countries foreign policy then get the fuck out and go crawl back under the rock you came from in the pathetic third world counry you came from. And how do you possibly draw the conclusion that fire fighters can't eat?
Oh noes, firefighters going to the store so they get food for lunch and dinner while they are working! Oh the humanity! Quick, send this to Anderson Cooper!
How do you expect them to eat during the day jacktard? I know people think we are superheros, but we need to eat too.
@hookandcanman Hey superjerkoff just a thought...I know this may seem complicated but try to follow me here for a second. I know you think you know it all and no one can tell you or teach you anything new. Buy your food before your tour begins and put it in the refrigerator until you cook it. Ooooh the HUMANITY making someone earn their salary and stop wasting resources. Maybe if they all did that, there would be more money in the budget????
This may be a foreign concept to you, but firefighters are a family. They cook, eat and live together. Cooking together is a core activity in the fire service. Trying to get 10 + firefighters to plan a meal together before the next shift is almost impossible. People call out sick. People get detailed to other stations. Oh, Jimmy was supposed to bring the eggs and bread, but isn't here. I guess we can't eat breakfast now...
@hookandcanman Here is a novel approach. Everybody bring the food they want to eat. Jimmy may have wanted french toast but Timmy wants cereal or oatmeal. So if everyone brings their own food, nobody relies on the other in case of an unexpected turn of events. They can still eat together as a core unit or not-that's totally up to them. So this solution provides that everyone eats what they want when they want.
Most crews have a food budget in which they pay X amount of money a shift for food. The collect money, decided what they want to eat for the day, make a list and go shopping in their 1st due, just like the guys from 255 were doing. They were in gear, ready to respond if there was a call.
How is going to the store a mile away wasting resources?
@hookandcanman There are nearly 11,000 uniformed fire fighters employed by New York City to protect 321 square miles. If every group of 5 firefighters used a firetruck to grocery shop and consumed measly gallon of fuel per round trip, the yearly fuel consumption totals 2,409,000 gallons per annum. Thus the total cost for diesel fuel consumed during a food run alone is a staggering $9,636,000 Do you get it yet?
1 apparatus from the station would go. Not every piece, which is what your 5 per unit is implying. Try using 251. Figure 20mpg. They are traveling about 1 mile per trip. Not a gallon per trip.12.55 gallons a day(20mpg and 1 mile being.05 x251 stations) @$3.50 a gal(department discount)=627.5 a day or about 230k a year. That's assuming they are driving over a mile, which most aren't since stores are around the corner from the station.
@vagunowner Well put. I wish he had provided the FFs the courtesy of telling their side of what he considers a violation. But he obviously didn't - I'm guessing because it wouldn't further his agenda.
@fd2119 In my nex video titled "The true firefighter brotherhood" I would attempt to get their side of the story . But unfortunately they declined to comment. Check it out and let me know your opinion.
Im guessing since they aren't allowed to go grocery shopping so they can eat then you don't think they should use the restroom while they are on duty either? Shut your mouth and mind your own business. These guys risk their lives for you and the rest of the city stop worrying about what they are doing in between calls. This just proves how stupid you really are!
@oberst9 You nitwit, these men are shopping for their food that they cook between calls. They USE THEIR OWN MONEY! I would far rather have them shopping with their apparatus so they can take off as soon as needed, rather than have to drive back to the firehouse and pick it up, wasting time.
I'm always happy to see my firefighters in the grocery. It means they aren't out endangering themselves at a fire or a rescue. Try thanking the next firefighter you see, instead of whining.
@sharppointy1 That's why you will never be elected as a public official. Would you allow teachers to take off in the middle of the day for shopping as well. While we are at it you probably would allow them to drive the school buses while shopping as well. As long as they USE THEIR OWN MONEY!!! Hey Genius, by the way, do you think they paid for the fuel they used to go shopping with the fire truck? Do you have any clue how much fuel a fire truck consumes? You DUMBASS!!!
-Are not expected to exert themselves. Food=fuel for the body
---Firefighters do not know when/how many calls will come in thus unknown quantification of fuel is needed for the body. I have to eat 2 dinners due to calls sometimes.
Teachers eat, and are given breaks at which time they can go for lunch etc. Same for firefighters. Urban firefighters never are unavailable for calls though, thus the fire truck.
Also, this is why one does RESEARCH before making claims, arguments, or statements....so one does not come across as a fool, which you have successfully done.
Also FDNY is considered by the majority of US Firefighters as the best fire department in the entire United States. Just for your piece of mind.
@flashpoint145 Let's see how this argument flies? There are nearly 11,000 uniformed fire fighters employed by New York City to protect 321 square miles. Or are you just to STUPID & stubborn to concede?
1 apparatus from the station would go. Not every piece, which is what your 5 per unit is implying. Try using 251.
Most units are diesel, which get more MPG than gasoline. Figure 20mpg. They are traveling about 1 mile per trip. Not a gallon per trip. Try running your numbers again.
@hookandcanman My figures are based upon the presumption that firefighting is a 24/7 business. Most firefighters have commented that food=energy and sometimes eat dinner twice to keep up their energy level. City buses are Hybrid Diesel with 4 cylinder diesel engines and only get 4 mpg while driving very conservatively @ 20 MPH. Firetrucks have larger engines and are driven like the end of the world is coming and are luck to get 1/4 of the mileage of a city bus. Sorry, your figures are flawed.
@hookandcanman wanna bet??? Sorry to burst your bubble but these guys even went down the wrong side of the street to illegally park. Look closely at the video and you will see this is true. Now do you think they accomplished that feat wthout lights and sirens blaring? And contrary to anyones belief, I did not follow them from their station on Rogers and Flatbush Avenue to McDonald and Avenue I (a typical drive of 25 minutes depending on traffic). Otherwise, you would see lights & sirens too.
@oberstd9 Why not ask some of us that drive and work on fire apparatus what kind of MPG's we're getting? In my department, our 47,000 pound ladder trucks will get 3-4 MPG, while our fire engines will get 6-7 MPG. And what's more, we're running far bigger motors than the FDNY does. Don't accuse hookandcanman of having flawed figures when it's actually you with the incorrect MPG assumptions.
@hookandcanman CanMan, I've been involved in fire apparatus maintenance for well over 10 years, and can assure you that 20MPG is about 4 times what they're actually getting. 5MPG is an average figure to use for urban areas in an engine company.
So 12.55 gallons a day(20mpg and 1 mile being.05 x251 stations) @$3.50 a gallon(department discount)=627.5 a day or about 230k a year. That's assuming they are driving over a mile, which most aren't since stores are around the corner from the station.
@hookandcanman In the instant case the store is many miles away from the station house. What would happen if the house next door to the station caught fire while they are out shopping????? What would the response time be in that case???
What if, what if, what if? What if they house next to the store caught on fire? What if some old lady had a cardiac arrest in the store while they were there??
I'm done wasting my time with a troll. I seriously hope you are trolling and not this stupid.
@oberstd9 The civilians you mention do get time off to do things. FLSA assures a certain number of breaks and time for lunch. I firefighter is on duty 24 hrs, not 8 hrs like a regular job. You really are being spiteful and mean spirited. What is your beef with the Fire Department? You obviously have a personal issue against these folks...
@sharppointy1 Me too, I'm happy to see firefighters when they are not endangering themselves at a fire or rescue as well. After all. from what I'm told there is a real brotherhood and sense of unity and togetherness between all firefighters. You watch my back and I'll watch yours kind of attitude. A real comradery!!!! That's good... really good so, I want you to check out my next video titled "The true firefighter brotherhood" and let me know what you think. So touching, so touching.
Hay dumbass this is a engine not a ladder note the fact that there is no ladder on top of the ENGINE. These firefighters pay for food out of there pocket not the city so what if they took a few minutes to drive to the market to get something to eat. Get a life and quit trying to catch someone.
This nation has become a collective of envious, whiny, self-righteous idiots. So what if they go shopping for their daily needs? I'm pretty sure these guys are at their jobs far longer during their day than you are oberstd (assuming you have a job) so their needs are simply different than most folks. I'm willing to cut them some slack and allow them to buy some sandwich meat and ice cream using taxpayer money to balance out the fact that they have to sometimes scrape children off a road
Hey guess what you toolbag... They are paying the same tax dollars as you. So lose the my taxes dollars pay your salary high horse approach. Did you get turned down by the Dept for a job? Is that why your so jaded and bitter towards a group that would take care of you without hesitation or question? Your lack of information and facts on FDNY policies makes you even more of an idiot. You need to do some deep soul searching and figure out what exactly is the nature of your crappy actions...
@firewagon92 Guess what you dick smoker... they are abusing their office and priviledge. Why can't they buy their food before their tour starts and put it in the refrigerator until they cook it? But why do that when you could do that in the middle of the day. After all they can't be expected to sleep the whole tour.
Maybe if you packed up your tent at whichever occupy hippie fest your staying at and went out and got a job and actually made a difference in society people might actually take you seriously. Not to mention doing a little research and having your facts in order instead of making YOURSELF look "utterly ridiculous".
@tylerman84 Not as scandalous as firefighters celebrating at a Christmas party. Check out my next video "The true firefighter brotherhood." Please let me know what you think and then crawl back under the rock you came from and shut the fuck up!!!!
I don't know why everyone, including myself, wastes their time trying to reason with these cowards and losers on here. There will always be wastes of life that try to drag normal, hard-working people, like the men of Eng. 255, down. There will always be idiots like this guy who get ideas in their heads and they will always be right in their mind no matter how much we embarrass them and make them feel dumb. Sure the world would be a better place without them but we have to deal for now.
@barkracing02 Actually, I'm hoping you all take an example from the two firechiefs that tortured and shot an 18 year old firefighter and shoot yourselves to save our legal system the expense of prosecution.
@RGMerkel why don't you take a look at my other video titles the true firefighter brotherhood. No video I could produce would speak more to the true nature of firefighters.
The guy that posted this video needs a serious mental evaluation done because what they are doing is NOT a violation of any kind and is perfectly acceptable. It is NOT a waste of tax payer money and is NOT a joy ride. They have the right to go to the store in the truck and get food. The city doesn't provide their meals which means they have to plan their meals out together as a shift and go get the food.
@RGMerkel If we accept your logic then all city workers should be permitted to use city vehicles to get lunch. Do me a favor and get a catscan...I think the squirrel between your ears died.
Wonder where this guy got his lunch... lazy public servants being allowed to eat on the job when they are willing to die for your sad excuse of an existance. Hey oberstd9, do me a favor and step in front of a train. Oh wait, the guys that show up to clean up your mess might have gone to get something to eat before.
Oh and smart people would condone this action. I wish I got a break to go eat but I dont. If you were here I freestyle aka rap battle or race you might even post youtube videos of worth just some of the things I know I do better than you. Oh and hitler when done acting out take you but home to germany where you belong. Hey Video tape someone who knows your there but then I wouldnt see you either. Oh well you got the attention you was SEEKING. Now go something for a change thats decent.
@KrazyDarckness Hey just a thought Einstein... learn to spell and formulate your ideas in an intellectual and cohesive manner before before you pollute the world with your verbal diarrhea.
< Trying to be nice when I say this. As a fire fighter when your house catches fire and they show up hungry and pass out in the door way all 4 engines and 1 truck and 1 medic usually about 24 people and we 24 more all wanting food and 24 more who by this point are dehydrated have a low blood sugar and other imbalances and your house looks like 09/11 we will see what you think. Just think fire fighters dead because they can not eat SMH. This video has said a lot about your LACK of character.
@KrazyDarckness Trying to be nice here as well. As a civillian watching the news about firefighters at a Christmas party where two fire chiefs go after a junior firefighter only 18 years old with a tazer and shot him NINE times-I wonder is that because of starvation, low blood sugar, sleep deprivation or, are they high as kites from drug and alcohol abuse. Maybe they're just plain nasty. That says a lot about the character or lack thereof from firefighters. See my next video
Not only is it very common and permitted, but as I'd previously mentioned in response to a comment from the poster, many departments actively encourage their crews to be visible in the community while on duty. Whether this is driving around for area familiarization, or just stopping by some local community events, it gets people interacting with the department. I'm sure they'd have been happy to answer any questions had he just approached them...maybe even offered him a tour.
I am not sure if this post is serious or not, and I hate being drawn into the frenzy here, but hopefully I can point out a few things to clear the air for both the poster (if he is truly serious) and everyone else who may have questions. First, this is the ShopRite at 1080 McDonald Ave in Brooklyn. The store is located 1.8 miles from 1367 Rogers Ave where Engine 255 is stationed.
First to clear the air, yes oberstd9 I am a volunteer firefighter and have been for the last 20 years. I grew up in a family of firefighters from multiple jurisdictions. While you may feel personally that seeing your local firefighters at a grocery store is a deraliction of duty or waste of taxpayers money, I can tell you from not only first hand experience, but the experience gained from years of exposure to the fire service, that this is common, routine, and daily task that most crews engage,
In fact, many crews that are stationed to firehouses within major cities, and even rural, take great pride in the family atmosphere that is built amongst shifts. This family relationship, or bond as some may call it, often goes deeper than the firehouse. It is not uncommon to find these same firefighters and their families socializing together when not at work. So therefore, is it unrealistic to believe that a common firefighter bond would be to attempt to share a meal together while at work.
Ok, so your next point will be that if they wish to do share a meal at work they should decide prior to the shift and bring the necessary ingrediants to work with them, thereby eliminating the unnecessary trip to the grocery store. While this may sound like an easy solution, the answer can be complicated by several factors. First, some personnel may be sick, have a scheduled day off, holiday, transfer assignment, the list can go on from here..
Secondly, while I can not speak directly for FDNY here, as I do not know their exact work schedule, in many fire departments personnel work 24 hour shifts and have multiple days off following that shift. The number of days can vary from department to department. If I have spaghetti for dinner one night, the last thing I want is spaghetti for dinner the second night. By not preplanning a meal, a group consensus can be reached to eliminate the duplicate meal issue.
As for policy, I can tell you that from my personnal experience in knowing the regulations of my department, along with the policies of several surrounding agencies that utilizing firetrucks, whether the engine, truck, ambulance, brush, utility, chief car, etc... to grocery shop at the local store is neither frowned upon or prohibited by any policy or general order.
In fact, I can point out to you a common answer to this exact question answered specifically by the city of Alexandria, Virigina. I can't post the link but a simple Google search will direct you to the FAQ page of their fire department. The question posted on their website is as follows:
"Q. I saw a City of Alexandria fire truck at a local grocery store , and some of the firefighters were inside shopping for food. Why do firefighters use fire trucks for non-emergency purposes while they are on duty?"
"A. To ensure the most effective service at the time of an emergency, our crews must remain in their designated response territory with their fire trucks during their entire shift. Our crews work 24-hour shifts with no scheduled breaks, and meals are not provided by the City. Personnel on each shift must purchase their own food and prepare their own meals, so they usually make a daily trip to the grocery store within their territories to buy whatever they
"Fire and Medic crews do not have to be sitting in the fire station to be dispatched to a call. Since all City units maintain constant radio contact with Fire Communications and the entire crew must always be together with their truck, they are always ready to respond to any emergency, regardless of their current location or non-emergency assignment.
Very often, our firefighters and paramedics spend long periods of their day running calls, without returning to the station or stopping to eat, and they frequently have to return to the grocery store several times to finish purchasing food that they might not get a chance to cook during the shift."
Continuing the Google search will point out several other fire departments who answer this common question directly on their websites. These departments include Beverly Hills, California; Charlotte County, Florida; and Miami-Dade Florida. Just to name a few. In case you are wondering I simply searched "use of fire truck to grocery shop" on Google.
Lastly, seeing firetrucks/firefighters at the grocery store can also be a more common experience in larger cities where shopping options may be limited and due to denser populations are seen more often than in rural settings.
As you can hopefully see this is not an uncommon practice nor policy breaker. While I am all for saving tax dollars, I think your efforts could be better targeted in this situation. While I understand it can be difficult to remain positive when getting blasted online, making obscene or offensive responses only adds fuel to the fire (no pun intended).
@hellogregd Hi let me know if this is common as well. Please see my next video "The true firefighter brotherhood." The we can talk about all the good they stand for like unity, togetherness, comradery, socialization, mealsharing and the common firefighter bond you so eloquently speak about.
@oberstd9 No one will disagree that what was done is horrible. But you are taking your anger out on all fire personnel... and comparing apples to oranges. Why? Maybe people would understand you better if you explained this mean spirited attacks. Against the public servants that have chosen to answer the call so that others can feel safe knowing that we are out there...
@oberstd9 Your "next" video has nothing to do with FDNY...or other departments. It also says an fd and a pd person were responsible for the horrible action against thiat young man. Further information says that all parties involved were relieved of their positions.
Hey Michael... you got a lot of room to talk trash. I guess it has been long enough to come out from under your rock... you know... since the arrest and all. Right.... Michael... Michael Kneitel... how old are you now... 50... 51... you still got the Nazi uniform? Did you ever get your guns back?
Guys, he's a troll. Clearly there is nothing wrong, but he's getting exactly what he wants.... To see a bunch of firefighters get worked up and act out. Keep your cool, and keep doing what you guys do best. Making an impact on people's lives every day.
Hate to say it but virtually every urban firestation crew does shopping for meals while at work... because it is also their home for 24 hours or more every couple/few days. You are arguing that they should NOT be out in their response area and should be sitting in a station house waiting for the bell to ring? New Flash! Guys, he's a troll. Clearly there is nothing wrong, but he's getting exactly what he wants.... To see a bunch of firefighters get worked up and act out. Keep your cool, and keep doing what you guys do best. Making an impact on people's lives every day.
@fyregeek First of all I went to college and received an education. Therefore, the fire department was never a consideration with respect to employment. Just to show you there are no hard feelings-I'm gonna bang your GF/wife (I'll email you the video). You shouldn't despair because after I'm done you could still hit the GF/wife and fuck the dog. This way you're still a man...right????
@oberstd9 Four of the six personnel I have assigned to my shift have college degrees. I'm working on my third one now. I'm afraid you're casting a pretty inaccurate blanket across the fire service as a whole. And what's with all the personal attacks?
@fyregeek As a matter of fact, I do have another firefighter video. Go see "The true firefighter brotherhood." I made it special for you so you could watch it while I plow your GF/wife.
I was going to respond with a profanity laced slam against the poster for being so ignorant......but I do think the person behind this camera is someone from our "special people" population. Good luck in your adventures.
Despite you being a complete moron, the NY's finest would still come to your aid if you needed it. Maybe you will gain some respect of them on your darkest day.
@hookandcanman Look despite what you may think, I respect the firefighters because they provide a vital service to the people of the city and its infrastructure. And you know, I could live with them sleeping, cookling, entertaining themselves during their shift between calls. But when they stop traffic, blow through stop lights and signs with the sirens blaring and the emergency is a "FOOD RUN." This is an abuse that I cannot condone. Can you sympathize with that???
Where did the 10 miles come from? That store is literally 6 blocks from 255's quarters. I dont live in NYC but 10 miles is not even believable. That would be like a 30 minute drive.... you could have came up with a better lie.
What are these fireman doing wrong, I am not seeing it. Anyone help me on this one. I thought it was one of those halloween videos where if you look hard enough a scary ass face pops up on the screen. Thank you at all First responders out there. Keep up the good work and don't worry what this small minded fool has put on youtube.

Anyone curious why this YouTube hero, oberstd9, didn't simply mention his concerns to one of the firemen or the officer-in-charge of the company? Why take a video and post it online, implying that there was something inappropriate being done? Answer: he's a coward.
Rich58R 3 weeks ago
Where is the problem here? Firemen work long shifts and have to eat, just like you! They eat meals together like a family. They are out in the community, interacting with the community and spending money in the community. They're presumably eating healthy since they're not at a fast food place. If there is a fire or a emergency they are available for runs (they have those radio thingys) so that they can risk their asses to save yours. Get a life you moron!
Rich58R 3 weeks ago
JOY RIDE!! first of all were required to drive the trucks anywhere we have to go on shift.. or would it be easier for us to get a call to save you or a loved one and have to drive all the way back to the station to get our gear and truck THAN come help you?? shut it down...
BRADLUEDKE1 3 weeks ago

Just tell me how's your wife and my kids??

iths5222 1 month ago
@iths5222 correct me if I'm wrong anywhere in my argument. Firefighters are required to obey all the laws...correct? That means all traffic laws when not on an emergency...correct? A food run is not an emergency...correct? The firetruck was parked on the wrong side of the street and faced oncoming traffic...correct? They broke the law in a non-emergency situation and they should lead by example-So I rest on your face!!! Finally, if you give respect you get respect-they were disrespectful.

Really this video is just ridiculous, get a life! maybe research how to give ten minutes of other peoples lives back (approx ten minutes, to be specific) because, I am very afraid that I will never get those back.

oberstd9 1 month ago in playlist Favorite videos
@oberstd9
I guess we can't eat breakfast now...
hookandcanman 1 month ago 2
@hookandcanman Here is a novel approach. Everybody bring the food they want to eat. Jimmy may have wanted french toast but Timmy wants cereal or oatmeal. So if everyone brings their own food, nobody relies on the other in case of an unexpected turn of events. They can still eat together as a core unit or not-that's totally up to them. So this solution provides that everyone eats what they want when they want.
oberstd9 1 month ago in playlist Favorite videos
@oberstd9
Most crews have a food budget in which they pay X amount of money a shift for food. The collect money, decided what they want to eat for the day, make a list and go shopping in their 1st due, just like the guys from 255 were doing. They were in gear, ready to respond if there was a call.
How is going to the store a mile away wasting resources?
hookandcanman 1 month ago
@hookandcanman There are nearly 11,000 uniformed fire fighters employed by New York City to protect 321 square miles. If every group of 5 firefighters used a firetruck to grocery shop and consumed measly gallon of fuel per round trip, the yearly fuel consumption totals 2,409,000 gallons per annum. Thus the total cost for diesel fuel consumed during a food run alone is a staggering $9,636,000 Do you get it yet?

11,000 firefighters are not on duty at one time.

Im guessing since they aren't allowed to go grocery shopping so they can eat then you don't think they should use the restroom while they are on duty either? Shut your mouth and mind your own business. These guys risk their lives for you and the rest of the city stop worrying about what they are doing in between calls. This just proves how stupid you really are!
smellin221 1 month ago
@oberst9 You nitwit, these men are shopping for their food that they cook between calls. They USE THEIR OWN MONEY! I would far rather have them shopping with their apparatus so they can take off as soon as needed, rather than have to drive back to the firehouse and pick it up, wasting time.
I'm always happy to see my firefighters in the grocery. It means they aren't out endangering themselves at a fire or a rescue. Try thanking the next firefighter you see, instead of whining.
sharppointy1 1 month ago 5
@sharppointy1 That's why you will never be elected as a public official. Would you allow teachers to take off in the middle of the day for shopping as well. While we are at it you probably would allow them to drive the school buses while shopping as well. As long as they USE THEIR OWN MONEY!!! Hey Genius, by the way, do you think they paid for the fuel they used to go shopping with the fire truck? Do you have any clue how much fuel a fire truck consumes? You DUMBASS!!!
oberstd9 1 month ago in playlist Favorite videos
@oberstd9
Teachers:
-Are not expected to exert themselves. Food=fuel for the body
---Firefighters do not know when/how many calls will come in thus unknown quantification of fuel is needed for the body. I have to eat 2 dinners due to calls sometimes.
Teachers eat, and are given breaks at which time they can go for lunch etc. Same for firefighters. Urban firefighters never are unavailable for calls though, thus the fire truck.
An engine like this gets about 5mpg.
flashpoint145 1 month ago

Also, this is why one does RESEARCH before making claims, arguments, or statements....so one does not come across as a fool, which you have successfully done.
Also FDNY is considered by the majority of US Firefighters as the best fire department in the entire United States. Just for your piece of mind.

Most units are diesel, which get more MPG than gasoline. Figure 20mpg. They are traveling about 1 mile per trip. Not a gallon per trip. Try running your numbers again.
hookandcanman 1 month ago
@hookandcanman My figures are based upon the presumption that firefighting is a 24/7 business. Most firefighters have commented that food=energy and sometimes eat dinner twice to keep up their energy level. City buses are Hybrid Diesel with 4 cylinder diesel engines and only get 4 mpg while driving very conservatively @ 20 MPH. Firetrucks have larger engines and are driven like the end of the world is coming and are luck to get 1/4 of the mileage of a city bus. Sorry, your figures are flawed.

And contrary to anyones belief, I did not follow them from their station on Rogers and Flatbush Avenue to McDonald and Avenue I (a typical drive of 25 minutes depending on traffic). Otherwise, you would see lights & sirens too.
oberstd9 1 month ago

You really are being spiteful and mean spirited. What is your beef with the Fire Department? You obviously have a personal issue against these folks...
firewagon92 1 month ago

MrScary5150 1 month ago
Hey guess what you toolbag... They are paying the same tax dollars as you. So lose the my taxes dollars pay your salary high horse approach. Did you get turned down by the Dept for a job? Is that why your so jaded and bitter towards a group that would take care of you without hesitation or question? Your lack of information and facts on FDNY policies makes you even more of an idiot. You need to do some deep soul searching and figure out what exactly is the nature of your crappy actions...
firewagon92 1 month ago
@firewagon92 Guess what you dick smoker... they are abusing their office and priviledge. Why can't they buy their food before their tour starts and put it in the refrigerator until they cook it? But why do that when you could do that in the middle of the day. After all they can't be expected to sleep the whole tour.

Maybe if you packed up your tent at whichever occupy hippie fest your staying at and went out and got a job and actually made a difference in society people might actually take you seriously.

RGMerkel 1 month ago 2
@RGMerkel If we accept your logic then all city workers should be permitted to use city vehicles to get lunch. Do me a favor and get a catscan...I think the squirrel between your ears died.

See my next video
oberstd9 1 month ago
Fair enough, so what would you prefer your fire department personnel do between calls on their 24-48 hour shifts?
frollard 1 month ago
Not only is it very common and permitted, but as I'd previously mentioned in response to a comment from the poster, many departments actively encourage their crews to be visible in the community while on duty. Whether this is driving around for area familiarization, or just stopping by some local community events, it gets people interacting with the department. I'm sure they'd have been happy to answer any questions had he just approached them...maybe even offered him a tour.
freeoutdoors 1 month ago
I am not sure if this post is serious or not, and I hate being drawn into the frenzy here, but hopefully I can point out a few things to clear the air for both the poster (if he is truly serious) and everyone else who may have questions. First, this is the ShopRite at 1080 McDonald Ave in Brooklyn. The store is located 1.8 miles from 1367 Rogers Ave where Engine 255 is stationed.
hellogregd 1 month ago
First to clear the air, yes oberstd9 I am a volunteer firefighter and have been for the last 20 years. I grew up in a family of firefighters from multiple jurisdictions. While you may feel personally that seeing your local firefighters at a grocery store is a deraliction of duty or waste of taxpayers money, I can tell you from not only first hand experience, but the experience gained from years of exposure to the fire service, that this is common, routine, and daily task that most crews engage,
hellogregd 1 month ago
In fact, many crews that are stationed to firehouses within major cities, and even rural, take great pride in the family atmosphere that is built amongst shifts. This family relationship, or bond as some may call it, often goes deeper than the firehouse. It is not uncommon to find these same firefighters and their families socializing together when not at work. So therefore, is it unrealistic to believe that a common firefighter bond would be to attempt to share a meal together while at work.
hellogregd 1 month ago
Ok, so your next point will be that if they wish to do share a meal at work they should decide prior to the shift and bring the necessary ingrediants to work with them, thereby eliminating the unnecessary trip to the grocery store. While this may sound like an easy solution, the answer can be complicated by several factors. First, some personnel may be sick, have a scheduled day off, holiday, transfer assignment, the list can go on from here..
hellogregd 1 month ago
While these situations may not be apparent to you or hard to believe it can be a routine obstacle they must overcome.
hellogregd 1 month ago
Secondly, while I can not speak directly for FDNY here, as I do not know their exact work schedule, in many fire departments personnel work 24 hour shifts and have multiple days off following that shift. The number of days can vary from department to department. If I have spaghetti for dinner one night, the last thing I want is spaghetti for dinner the second night. By not preplanning a meal, a group consensus can be reached to eliminate the duplicate meal issue.
hellogregd 1 month ago
As for policy, I can tell you that from my personnal experience in knowing the regulations of my department, along with the policies of several surrounding agencies that utilizing firetrucks, whether the engine, truck, ambulance, brush, utility, chief car, etc... to grocery shop at the local store is neither frowned upon or prohibited by any policy or general order.
hellogregd 1 month ago
In fact, I can point out to you a common answer to this exact question answered specifically by the city of Alexandria, Virigina. I can't post the link but a simple Google search will direct you to the FAQ page of their fire department. The question posted on their website is as follows:
hellogregd 1 month ago
"Q. I saw a City of Alexandria fire truck at a local grocery store , and some of the firefighters were inside shopping for food. Why do firefighters use fire trucks for non-emergency purposes while they are on duty?"
hellogregd 1 month ago
"A. To ensure the most effective service at the time of an emergency, our crews must remain in their designated response territory with their fire trucks during their entire shift. Our crews work 24-hour shifts with no scheduled breaks, and meals are not provided by the City. Personnel on each shift must purchase their own food and prepare their own meals, so they usually make a daily trip to the grocery store within their territories to buy whatever they
hellogregd 1 month ago 3
need to prepare their meals for the entire shift."
hellogregd 1 month ago
"Fire and Medic crews do not have to be sitting in the fire station to be dispatched to a call. Since all City units maintain constant radio contact with Fire Communications and the entire crew must always be together with their truck, they are always ready to respond to any emergency, regardless of their current location or non-emergency assignment.
hellogregd 1 month ago
Very often, our firefighters and paramedics spend long periods of their day running calls, without returning to the station or stopping to eat, and they frequently have to return to the grocery store several times to finish purchasing food that they might not get a chance to cook during the shift."
hellogregd 1 month ago
Continuing the Google search will point out several other fire departments who answer this common question directly on their websites. These departments include Beverly Hills, California; Charlotte County, Florida; and Miami-Dade Florida. Just to name a few. In case you are wondering I simply searched "use of fire truck to grocery shop" on Google.
hellogregd 1 month ago
Lastly, seeing firetrucks/firefighters at the grocery store can also be a more common experience in larger cities where shopping options may be limited and due to denser populations are seen more often than in rural settings.
hellogregd 1 month ago 2
As you can hopefully see this is not an uncommon practice nor policy breaker. While I am all for saving tax dollars, I think your efforts could be better targeted in this situation. While I understand it can be difficult to remain positive when getting blasted online, making obscene or offensive responses only adds fuel to the fire (no pun intended).
hellogregd 1 month ago
@hellogregd Hi let me know if this is common as well. Please see my next video "The true firefighter brotherhood." The we can talk about all the good they stand for like unity, togetherness, comradery, socialization, mealsharing and the common firefighter bond you so eloquently speak about.

Hate to say it but virtually every urban firestation crew does shopping for meals while at work... because it is also their home for 24 hours or more every couple/few days. You are arguing that they should NOT be out in their response area and should be sitting in a station house waiting for the bell to ring? New Flash! Some may argue that they SHOULD be out 8-12 hours a shift Physical training, preplanning, doing inspections, area familiarization, drilling, public saftey talks, etc. URALUZR
