"can't say it's comparable to the mac" yeh that's cause a mac is a piece of hardware, OSX on hte other hand is just as good as this if you take into account the multitouch drivers that they still are to make, final cut pro is the ONLY reason to get a osx, all the other software can be matched and betteen by an unoverpriced pc

RIght now I'm looking for a new machine and running Windows natively is a big deal, but if it's not easy to use with the glass trackpad I might have to bite the bullet and pick up a Dell or something instead. The 7 taskbar looks HORRIBLE! No offense to people that like it, but it only shows the icon, not the title. And it is TOO transparent. I like it better when you can really SEE it. I will keep using Windows Vista. I like the Aero theme on Windows Vista Home Premium more than I like that. Still, Windows 7 looks cool. You should try the multitouch!
meh click properties on the new taskbar and you should see options to see the titles againg and then click propesties on desktop and make the colour more intense :D....

Not really, it has some multi touch features, new interface, and more compatibility issues were solved. I think the main thing with windows 7 is that Microsoft is trying to make it far more stable. I see it as Microsoft's apology for all the problems that Windows Vista had.

I've got it working on my early 08 macbook pro, chose the 64 bit version. The only issue I had was no sound, but all I had to do to fix that was to reinsert the OSX CD and install the audio drivers separately under Vista compatibility. Everything works great, actually I think Windows 7 is a bit faster on its feet after it loads than OSX in terms of opening applications, but I don't have any heavy programs like Photoshop to test that, so I'll just call it an observation for now.
Try to use the 64 bit version. Its a bit bigger than the 32bit, but much faster, and if you have a mac made in the past like 2 years it should be fine.
everything is running great. compared to running vista -- it's a different operating system, that's the best way to put it. i know a lot of people like to say it's the same -- which may be true in some cases, but the expereience is much improved.
my friend's brother works on the windows 7 team in microsoft, and basically what they are doing is taking vista and fixing it (of course if they put it as a new product, chances are ppl would think that it is actually a new product)

Booting up Windows XP took me 30 seconds on my Sony VAIO FW, it takes Vista 40 seconds, and Windows 7 takes almost 45-50 seconds to boot up. 2nd thing I don't understand, why is this OS still a resource hog?? Yes, but they can be, because they are not a software company like Microsoft, they are a computer manfacuring company. Two different companies that happen to develop competing pieces of software, very different business models however.

You're right. MS doesn't have the obligation..they choose to allow this. Why? Because when u use MS Windows (dell, hp, or mac), MS gets 100% profit as well. To date I have installed 16 different applications with no fail yet. I've been very successful in installing everything - even applications deemed for XP or Vista only.
so far so good... i think they should start working on powerpoint cuz no one likes Dumb 2d animation slides... make it more exiting like keynote.. etc..
The issue with Aero happens when running under virtualization. It's because it doesn't pass the system rating test. It's stops at about half the way during the test.
I'm in the process of downloading win7 right now to try it out. I'm still using xp on my mac so i have no clue how big of an improvement this is from vista, but from what i hear and see, it seems much better =) BTW, i am in LOVE with your orange butterflyish wallpaper... care to share? lol.
You pose a great question, why would we install Windows 7 if Mac OSX is so great? Well, I believe to consider yourself a technology enthusiast, you have to try it all. That said, since you came here by searching Mac's in keywords (Gotta love insight) - I'm assuming you were curious - just not able to afford - thus you hate. Furthermore, I would NEVER trade MACOSX for Windows - period. It's being able to speak intelligently on why this is, would be the reason I installed it.
Relax, if realiability is important to you - I was able to crash vista in the first hour I installed it. I have not been able to crash 7, and to its credit this is the beta! Performance, it's out performing any of the past window products. Usability, it's fairly catchy to use. I enjoy it thus far, it's come a long way not to say that they've come far enough yet.

is wifi running good? cuz there seems to be problems with vista's wlan connectivity (sometimes u'd have to reboot to get it working)...

Or you could look at it as OS X has a feature called Boot Camp that ALLOWS you to run any other OS (not just Windows) You could also say a mac is so good it can run any program out there while a pc can run everything EXCEPT Mac apps. (of course not counting virtual machines) And yes u are correct, installing os x on a pc goes against Apple's terms but it is in no way "monopolic"... A monopoly over what??? Mac OS X has a monopoly in the Macintosh computers. That makes sense!

That's precisely the monopolic thing, look it this way, Pc's can't run everything because apple doesn't let them to, excuse me sr, but that is monopolic, in the other hand, mac's can run everything because microsoft isn't monopolic (right now, not talking about its past) and they let mac install windows, actually mac made boot camp so they didn't looked monopolic, and of course, taking advantage of the free use of microsoft, so that u mac users could say mac's can run everything. Marketing!!

... When u buy a pc you get two products (MS Windows and Dell laptop for example) Not so with a Mac. (Mac OS + a Mac computer = 1 singular product known as the macintosh) Microsoft is not a hardware company. Remember all the mad Vista users who had a "Vista logo" on their machine but couldn't run it? Windows has to run on EVERYTHING because MS doesn't make computers so it relies on other companies to make them. Apple has no obligation to separate the OS from the machine as it is one product.

Microsoft doesn't have the obligation to allow mac users to run windows neither, they can block mac computers from using windows whenever they want, a few changes on the code and boom no win on mac's. You see the monopolic thing again?, Apple doesn't even let other companies build their hardware, just them, so they get the 100% profit. U r right about the vista logo, that was a big fault from microsoft, but those are normal company errors, apple has been doing this for years!!

You're right. MS doesn't have the obligation..they choose to allow this. Why? Because when u use MS Windows (dell, hp, or mac), MS gets 100% profit as well. By making their own hardware, Apple ensures their OS will work on the mac they sell. Again, u cant compare MS to Apple since they don't build computers. Their business comes from software..they need it to work on any computer out there. Apple's business comes from hardware/software. Apple sells 1 product. U choose to buy it or not.

Have you tried installing anything that have specific installers for XP or Vista? Which installer works, or do both succeed or fail?

To date I have installed 16 different applications with no fail yet. I've been very successful in installing everything - even applications deemed for XP or Vista only.

The issue with Aero happens when running under virtualization. It's because it doesn't pass the system rating test. It's stops at about half the way during the test.

I'm in the process of downloading win7 right now to try it out. I'm still using xp on my mac so i have no clue how big of an improvement this is from vista, but from what i hear and see, it seems much better =) BTW, i am in LOVE with your orange butterflyish wallpaper... care to share? lol.

You pose a great question, why would we install Windows 7 if Mac OSX is so great? Well, I believe to consider yourself a technology enthusiast, you have to try it all. That said, since you came here by searching Mac's in keywords (Gotta love insight) - I'm assuming you were curious - just not able to afford - thus you hate. Furthermore, I would NEVER trade MACOSX for Windows - period. It's being able to speak intelligently on why this is, would be the reason I installed it.

New taskbar looks nice. That's it.
It's still fucking bad to switch between windows.
And the Aero Version of Alt-Tab doesn't add anything to usability, just gimmicky flying 3D windows. Still the same as ALT-TAB.
I don't get it. Is that all? A little less software bloat and speedier OS. Wow.
And still that Windows Home / Business / Ultimate / XXX stuff.

Relax, if realiability is important to you - I was able to crash vista in the first hour I installed it. I have not been able to crash 7, and to its credit this is the beta! Performance, it's out performing any of the past window products. Usability, it's fairly catchy to use. I enjoy it thus far, it's come a long way not to say that they've come far enough yet.
