  • Does anyone have sheet music for her version of this tune? I've found a couple of versions online, but they disagree in important ways, and neither is a close match for this recording.

  • @jc4217 It's a good thing we have ears with which to learn. If you want to emulate her playing (or anyone's, for that matter) you won't find it in any sheet music. Just listen and practice, =]

  • @zephyr2050 Well, yeah, any musician knows that. But you can really speed up the first stage of learning the basic notes if you can read them. Then you can start listening to the style without constantly starting the recording, backing up, and trying to figure out what those couple of notes were. It's especially helpful if the printed music is the basic melody, without ornaments. Then you can quickly learn the basic melody, and spend more time studying the master's interpretation.

  • @jc4217 My point was you should use your ears to dictate the melody onto paper. It's a simple folk tune, so it should be easy. And you're only improving your musicianship skills by doing so. Besides, you shouldn't be in any rush to learn music anyway.

  • Is Professor Li really playing an erhu for this selection, or is it a gaohu, which would be more traditional for this piece?

  • @dbadagna You're right! It is gaohu (I missed that typo).
