Arjen was great as the best friend. It was his role and nobody else could have done it with such passion and believability. It is as if the other singers couldn't do it because Arjen was destined to sing the character.

James LaBrie is such an amazing singer, I don't know why people don't like him. T.T Well probably all the thrash and death metalheads think his voice is too operatic or something... But I love his voice, especially on Images & Words. And Arjen... well I admit he's not the greatest singer, but there's definitely something about his voice that brings a smile to my face. It's uniquely original, which is why I love to hear him sing anyway! :D

@HammerOfPink It's because most numbheads dont realise how much damage James has in his voice for singin ridiculously awsome for so many years.

Most of them know James or DT for a few years and base their theory on the nowadays James who, for obvious reasons, does indeed sing a lot beneath his old performance.

Its interesting, when singing low, like in 1:07, Labries voice has a tenancy for a natural baritone drop at the end of a note. While this may not mean he's a baritone for sure, but he obviously has a very comfortable lower register for someone considered a tenor.

They were recording James in the middle of the night, and before he began to sing, he waneted to take a short warmup-run for like 15 minutes. He ended up being away for nearly 2 hours coz he got lost in the dark. Arjen finally found him in a park frezing hes ass of! And Arjen also had a food-poisoning and was throwing up all the time in the studio. A hard time, but they pulled thru!

I have to disagree, every DT album keeps getting better and musicly better. They wen't through a dry spell in my opinion but systematic chaos was amazing and his vocals have always been great but in my opinion he sings best the heavier the music is

no, the "J" in Arjen is pronounce more like a "y". At least that how they pronounce it at the end of the Star One album.

Yes, which according to him wasn't intentional. I read and interview where Ayreon was originally gonna be called "Aries", but somebody told him he was pronnouncing it wrong so the syllabels didn't fit correctly. So he went with "Ay" which is common in Medevil names, and "eon" which has alot to do with scientific stuff.

I think that LAbrie did a great job with ayreon, personally i think he does more than he should in DT, but it is a good singer.

However, for this album Devin Townsend, Mikael Akerfeldt, Marcela Bovio are fantastic.
