i haven't seen the movie yet, but i'd like to recomend a 1981 BBC miniseries Day of the triffids, that has similar story: almost all go blind and the social order colapsed.Very good adaptation.

O livro é magnífico, como todos do Saramago, e Fernando Meirelles contar essa história é maravilhoso pois desmitifica os cineastas brasileiros, que só se atraem pela miséria e pelo exotismo do país. man, this is based on a book that was written in 1995. you can't blame a movie for being about an epidemic and people being quarantined when the source material was written way before this new trend of movies came out. besides. some of the great movies these past couple of the years have involved an epidemic or people being quarantined.
