The bicycle police do not carry rubber bullets and stun guns like patrol officers. As an ex-cop, the police may have done the right thing. We weren't there, so we really can only speculate the true details. I am a little concerned on the time frame. They said all this took place within 40 seconds. I was trained to use deadly force as a last resort. So, if it was only a knife, did they use OC spay? If there were 3 cops, why couldn't they have wrestled him down to the ground and seized the knife? Just seems a little too fast of a reaction.
