sorry but thats so wrong. The risk of getting aressted stops the weak from making money. Anyone with guts makes more then you do with what ever "job" you have. Fuck legalizing, it's perfect how it is.
@Rheaume100 you dumb shit, look at the fines and jail time on shit like coke and junk...that shits fucked and it still gets around. Were talking about marijuana...chances are youve tried it. In this neighborhood and surrounding area (where im from) id say at least half of the population smokes if not more. They could still regulate it and keep the bad drugs off but give people the choice to smoke...you dont wanna cool, you do then this wont happen
Do you know that the US has way harsher penalties for drug offences and they have a way worse situation than Canada does? Do you also know that US states are now realizing their get tough tactics did not work and are now reversing those failed policies? Why on Earth would you suggest we do something that has proven not to work? Getting tough on drug dealers sounds good on paper but its a total waste of time, money and lives.
You are both wrong and history backs me up - so please read your history. All of the harms being caused by drug prohibition were caused at one time when we prohibited alcohol. So we repealed alcohol prohibition and those harms went away. I do not think that our drug addiction problem will go away with legalization but all the prohibition caused harms will. What harms am I talking about - to show I've spent many years researching this unlike you...
* Foreign policies towards drug producing countries cause huge rifts in foreign relations and creates international animosity.
* American government spending on drug law enforcement and related judicial process/imprisonment is costing tax payers 30 billion dollars a year (the US spent that much every year throughout the 90s)
* Good intentioned laws enacted to tackle drug crime have ended up eroding everyones civil liberties without any appreciable effect on crime or addiction rates.
* Police and first responders being put in harms way day after day enforcing drug laws and tending to the victims in the streets.
wait a minute...you are saying that we should legalize drugs so that drug dealers won't attack us??? i think you just want to go into the drug business, that's why you want it legaliized...i see that you've spent at least an hour thinking this through...
so pot heads murdered the guy for his drugs? Or was the pothead too lazy to get a job, so he resorts to stealing to get money to buy drugs.

@Rheaume100 Ha, wake up man. Life is not a fairy tale. This attitude of yours is the very reason why we have problems like these.

* Street level drug dealing by violent gangs (Triads, Mafia, Hells Angels, Native Gangs)
* Dangerous underground drug manufacturing in our neighborhoods (meth labs and grow ops)
* Massively large, highly profitable, and extremely violent international drug cartels (La Familia Michoachana, Gulf Cartel/Los Zetas, Sinaloa)
* Enrichment of our enemies (Taliban, Al-Qaeda) by establishing a black market for them to sell their narcotics

* When adjusting for inflation drug prices have dropped during prohibition
* Drug purity has increased during prohibition
* Children are now distributors of drugs
* Children are now a larger consumer of drugs
* Societal distrust in law enforcement has grown
* Law enforcement and political office has been corrupted by greed and influence
