  • KLASYK~!!!~

  • Who is in the picture at 3:28?

  • 5:15 DBZ reference?

  • I actually remember this, wow! :O

  • i find this cartoon more disturbing now when i'm 18 then when i was 8 or 9 years old

  • look at how different everyone looked! muriel was thinner uestas was a little shorter it seems, and courages voice was different. in fact everyones was. truly the first before the series started. the one that scared me most, and my favorite of all time.

  • this is the best episode ever made

  • 'this shouldn't happen to a dog'

  • Oh Gawd! I haven't seen this in over a decade!

  • Dil=Dillworth what a name to be a brand product

  • absolutely brilliant

  • when i was younger this episode had me scared as hell !!

  • courage is not the absence of fear but the ability to overcome it.

  • 4:46 show's producers in the pictures???

  • am i the only one who noticed the suitcase said Mars then it said albany?

  • 6:12 crash bandicoot!

  • hahahahaha his scream at the end !! awesome!!

  • Man, most of those were terrible Ren & Stimpy wannabes... but this one dared to have it's own style and, unlike those other ones, it still holds up!

  • In never really liked these kind of episodes cuz they don't talk and courages voice sounds to evil honestly the only thing I like about this is that they actually believe him nut not to be rude I like the old episodes better they just seem more I don't know but that's just my opinion! Oh ya and thank you so much Hannah Barbra for creating this show its one of my favs!

  • @Babydino122 This is the FIRST episode! How can there be any older ones?

  • i kant belive hw easy it was back den he snapped the chickens neck eustsce turns into a zombie chicken and c ourage shoots him wat has happened to cartoons theres no luv ne mre people just draw and throw nethang 2getha diz is a true classic

  • thumbs up if you noticed the live action photos

  • I'm so proud of myself for seeing this the day it first came out

  • So THIS is why there's that revenge episode in the series.

  • YEEEEEEES! The very first Courage episode! CLASSIC.

  • 1:34 omg Eustace and Muriel actually caring and understanding courage?

  • This is a classic,but Eustace turning into a chicken,always freaked me out,like they way he's laughing... :/

  • 5:57-6:05 It said Mars on the briefcase and then it said Albany xD

  • the face courage made after he shot eustace was the funniest/cutest thing ever haha awww lol

  • i seen this only once on CN =(

  • lol the first epsiode im so glad it became a series!!!!

  • anyone else noticed that the chicken house reappeared at 3:21?

  • Wow these knew what they were doing and what this show was going to be about.

  • BUGA BUGA BUGAAAAAAAAA

    EPIC

  • So first, I saw this when I was like 7 and didn't eggs for WEEKS after this episode cuz I thought I was gonna die.

Second, I love hat Muriel and Eustace run out like goons @ 1:35

Third, the chicken killing all the chickens LOL

    Last, Eustace's transformation EPIC !!!

oo yea..DID Y'ALL SEE THE INSIDE OF THAT EGG????!!!

  • Comment removed

  • 5:57 Mars, 6:04 Albany. To hell with consistency.

  • Oh God it sounds so weird without the later sound effects, but I still love it <3

  • its both scary and funny at the same time i love ctcd

  • Another cartoon that made me the creepy person I am :D

  • Choking the chicken lol

  • BUGA BUGA BUGAAA

  • Wasn't there another version of this in the main series of CTCD? There was one where the space chickens take Eustace and Muriel hostage and courage has to rescue them IIRC

  • 11 space chickens thumbed this down.

  • This short was nominated for an Academy Award :D

  • @kobra If there's one thing I ask the Academy is this: of all the short animated films that were nominated the year this came out. Normally, short animated don't get that huge public attention as well as "The Chicken from Outer Space" did, so why didn't this win. Seriously. It's short. It's hilarious. It's to the point when telling a story. What could be better than this?

  • @jsteffey88 It lost to Wallace & Grommit, which is completely understandable I think.

  • @sugarpunch18 No offense, but I find Wallace & Grommit easily forgettable and dull. I'm sure it's a great animated franchise, but I just never found the interest in it. I remember growing up in the '90's and first saw, "The Chicken from Outer Space" and I was like, "Wow!" with laughter. It sucks Courage the Cowardly Dog show was done with years ago.

  • @jsteffey88 Don't get me wrong, I myself like them both equally as they were both a big part of my childhood. I just mean that at least Courage lost to a worthy opponent and not to something completely mindless and stupid.

I guess my main point is this: win or lose, I myself couldn't be a bigger fan of Courage! XD

  • @kobra Was It really? 0__o

  • It was funny how Eustace became a chicken

  • Was this nominated for an oscar!?!

  • @walrusguyjr Yes, it was.

  • this shit especially the transformation was damn scary back then, worse thing is that they usually showed it very late, but I still watched it, like it was child crack lol

  • 1:29 just makes me rupture with laughter. I love the strange animation in this.

  • 11 people don't like Silly Pop. Thumbs up if you agree

  • The characters aren't fully developed here.

  • Comment removed

  • @sashetoa Obviously because it's the pilot episode.

  • he is chocking the cock

  • I thinkthe transformation scene is so LOL hilarious

  • the episode that started it all!

  • It's funny how this started the Courage series... I'd wish that the same had happened to Mina and The Count

  • 2:01 He is literally Choking The Chicken

  • omg that part where he killed the chicken always had me dien of laughter when i was a kid

  • I just suddenly realized why a lot of items on the show say 'Dil'...

    God I feel stupid.

  • its wierd to say this but when i was a kid i loved this show but now that im 17 i cant believe how this show was so dark and yet i couldn't stop laughing to it. it strange

  • Courage should get its contract renewed for one final season thumbs up if you agree

  • @Joemamma69000 hes still around

  • @Vyse195 In reruns

  • @Joemamma69000 oh you meant all new ones

  • 5:59, he looks so manly lol

  • I miss animation

  • The very FIRST Courage the Cowardly Dog episode!!

  • This would be my favorite cartoon to watch on cartoon network

  • Saw it, I'm going to cartoon number ten.

  • Something is seriously wrong with John R. Dilworth; I do enjoy Courage the Cowardly Dog, though :) I like how Courage and the Chicken engage in the strangest forms of combat; arm wrestling, checker playing, fencing, etc.

  • Something is seriously wrong with John R. Dilworth; I do enjoy Courage the Cowardly Dog, though :)

  • this episode is creepy like hell

  • I loved this.

  • I haven't seen this original episode in years, and decided to go to YouTube and see if they had it. Courage the Cowardly Dog is definetly my favorite cartoon from my childhood, and I agree with everybody who says the new cartoons these days suck.

  • Nostalgia strikes once again. There were actually not many good cartoons like this one on the Dutch television, and now there are none. But this, together with Ren and Stimpy, were my definite favorite TV-shows when I was a kid, and they provided me with enough nightmare fuel for the rest of my life.

  • YES! I love this cartoon! I'm so glad it made it to Cartoon Network as a series! Every episode no matter how disturbing or creepy it got was very creative. I remember seeing this one for the very first time and I loved it even though Muriel and Eustace never said much. Courage is a character and I hope he's stays in the Cartoon Network Hall of Fame!

  • the things i do for love!

  • I forgot this was how this show started....Wow, to think that series all started here. X3

  • 6:04 LOL that face!!

  • @SIGNanimations hahaha ..it did :(

    lol!

  • Finally, I found this episode!

  • @SIGNanimations LMAO!!!

  • Damn, I loved this show. This was the very first presentation of it on TV. I remember watching What a Cartoon and this was my favorite thing on it. Kids shows today suck.

  • @SIGNanimations yah but the color and definition tans him up a bit so he looks boderline Obama color :)

  • Wow, this became later Courage. Great!

  • I swear i thought i saw Obama at 3:27 lol! on the wall lol

  • @FAJYTAHZ17 It does look like him!

  • @StellianAriolus right!?!? lol

  • I Loooooove This Dog soo much!!!!

  • This is the only short that was acctualy made into a series?

  • @XenoXray

Not at all. Besides Courage, other shows that started out as shorts on the What a Cartoon show and got their own series include Johnny Bravo, Dexter's Lab, The Powerpuff Girls, Cow and Chicken, I Am Weasel, Mike, Lu, and Og, and Whatever Happened to Robot Jones.

  • All the nightmares I had because of these old cartoons were well worth it. I miss this kind of stuff.

  • I don't understand, did Courage the cowardly dog come from this, like this was a test run, or what?

  • @megadork456 It came from this. See, back in the day, Hanna Barbara/Cartoon Network had a bunch of it's animators come up with their own cartoon ideas to pitch/have on their anthology show "What A Cartoon" (Seth McFarland of "Family Guy" contributed a cartoon and many classic CN series got their start here). This was John R. Dilworth's contribution and since it got rave reviews, plus an Emmy nomination, they contracted him to produce a full series based on the character.

  • wow it realy cool to see how much the show had changed

  • COURAGE THE COWARDLY DOG <3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3

  • And now its been inducted in Cartoon Networks Hall of Fame

    what a long way

  • they later remade this episode but the original is still gud:)

  • Man he looked so awesome back then. When I first saw this I kinda new they were going to make a show out of it, because it was so good.

  • 0:43 XD

  • omg!!!!this is great.good to see the pilot up:)

  • i remember watching this episode at my cousins'...that was good day until we got the news that Princess Diana had died

  • this episode is so scary!!

  • hannah barbera cartoon huh? that prod was the best for each other programns...now it is not the same the real passion has been lost in time and too many modifications around it..we were bred by this amazin show pr somthing we can proudly say it's one of the things that made me the person i am now... the newest childhood will be scared but not for this ( it was so innocent an pure) but the crappy show that are showin out ... what they have become into? monsters you killed my innocent me LOL!!

  • i remember watching this, it was weird but i was okay with that

  • Muriel at 4:15

  • Courage the Cowardly Dog was animated horror - you know, for kids! Truly a great concept and I'm so glad the show is coming DVD this summer!

  • This was my favorite short out of the whole What A Cartoon block, as a kid I was ecstatic when I saw that it was being turned into a series.

  • look at the picture at 5:39 it looks like a guy mooning lol

  • @boxman91210 It's actually a guy mooning and farting to boot.

  • This one was actually nominated for an Oscar.

  • 3:28 whos the black guy on the photo??

  • "This shouldn't happen to a dog!"

  • Eustace is one Hell of a loony bird.

  • courage is coming back for a 5th season in october 2010 and there might be a new character

  • @darkyoshirobot OMG is he really that would be soooooo great is he going to be on cartoon network

  • @darkyoshirobot Where did you hear this?

  • @darkyoshirobot man...plz dont be tellin BS you got my hopes up!

  • ...lol, i remember this one, vaguely. scared the crap out of me when i first wtched it. this really brings back the memories.....XD

  • Wow, courage looks so different.

  • I remember this! I remember wondering why Courage's voice was so funny...

  • Howard Hoffman voied him in this one. the series Marty Grabstein voices him in all the episodes

  • Still creepy !

  • This episode use to freak the shit out of me when I was a kid hahaha

  • @ElementNOTW

It really freaked me out too but man did I love it.

Thank you for bringing up such memories to me again!

I was watching this on the Swedish Cartoon Network when it first aired.

  • i love courage !

  • ive been a fan of courage, its really funny and he reflects the irony of dogs...lol...

but its fun fun fun....theres always alien in evry episodes...

  • wow, this must be the earliest version of courage!

  • Yes, actually.. This was done way before Courage was turned into a show. This may well be the final version of the pilot, or a student project in animation. Not sure about the latter.

  • 1995

  • Courage the Cowardly Dog is so twisted!

it`s bizarre, weird... And I love it so much!

  • Seth McFarlane should bow down to Dilworth.

  • @kraastopher Family Gay is shit

  • @kraastopher He shoud polish his boots and be his personal rug aswell.

  • @kraastopher you should bow down to my dick

  • @EL0Y1 Present it and I will devour it.

  • lol i choked the chicken

  • Is it just me, or was Courage scary as a kid to watch? For me on every cartoon cartoon Friday back then, This would be the show that freaked me out. But as I've grown older this is one of my favorite Cartoon's to watch today, and because its the only watchable cartoon CN shows out of all the other crap ones.

  • Yeah, it was pretty hardcore stuff for a kid's show. It gave me nightmares several times, but I just couldn't stop watching it.

  • COURAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!! this was one of the best cartoon ever made

  • wow stumbled on this by accident this such a classic.. reminds me of a pixar short movie even though this probably came out first.

  • Very much first, and done better. BY HAND, NOT COMPUTER MADE CRAP.

  • reminds me of rocko's pilot

  • yeah. this was actually a short animated film back in 1995 and was nominated an Oscar but lose to Wallace & Gromit.. Such classic! and so Original! cool.. I never saw a pink dog before, although there was The Pink panther....

  • COURAGE THE COWARDLY DOG! I love this show! This is the first episode? I didn't know it was this old! The show came out in like 1999, if I'm not mistaken...

  • this is the scariest tv show for kids.

Despite half my nightmares coming from it, i still loved it enough to watch

  • @EmmaLC6195 it's between this and invader zim

  • @nineinchnail6794 Invader Zim was not scary, just disturbing

  • @EmmaLC6195 defff. some of the characters were just weirddd and even disturbing. a lot of supernatural things, loved it as a kid too though.

  • @yao11ming4mvp not saying it was rubbish it was absolutely great! but think anout a 5 year old watching it :L

  • @EmmaLC6195 i know! and i used to watch them when i was like 5! they really were scary!

  • around 3:23 the hen house is back even though it exploded. pause it fast

  • This always creeped me out as a kid. Still loved it though, and would always watch Courage the Cowardly Dog thereafter.

  • i used to run in fear whenever this came on tv when i was a child...

    still creeps me out... XD

  • that chicken got some balls ;)

  • good times....good times.....

  • After all these years, this still shouldn't happen to a dog!

    lol

  • ZOMFG is this a pilot episode? :o

  • Yep, they even made a sequel to this ep

  • actually two sequels

2nd one, chicken returns for revenge

3rd one, chickens three headed son returns for revenge

  • I loved Courage the Cowardly Dog! Even from this pilot, I still love it. It had great plots and dastardly villains (one of the villains there is my favorite, Katz).

  • Ah yes. How could I forget this? The very first episode of "Courage the Cowardly Dog". Or at least, this is where it all began before it became a series in the late 1990s and early 2000s. This is an absolute classic. Brings back wonderful memories.

  • thius were good carttoons, perhaps this show was a pilot for a lot of them, not like the trash on tv nowadays

  • Why can't cartoons be like the good ol' days? I checked Cartoon Network and it's just riddled with senseless reality shows now :(

  • IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS EPISODE FOR FOREVER!

    thaannkk yoouuu

i remember the premire of it
