I just made this recipe and i LOVED the lemon part. i didn't like the crust though, i never have.. its just the smell of it makes me sick. I don't know why, every time i smell it i lose my appetite weather its with the recipe or any other
@bunnyxv Hmm, that's disappointing. I'm sorry that happened. I would suggest that perhaps your oven bakes hotter....or perhaps the butter wasn't cut fine enough into the flour? Did you proceed with the recipe anyway? Did it turn out ok?
I tried 2 lemon squares today that I saw in YouTube. Compared to other posting, your recipe by far came out so good. It melts in your mouth. Thank you for posting your wonderful recipe. Your instruction was also well understood. This is my first time to bake lemon squares. By the way, I have a lemon tree so I zest about 4 lemons and used it in the recipe. Turned out great!

Technically you COULD substitute marg for the butter...but you would miss that buttery shortbread flavour and I wouldn't recommend it...you wouldn't make shortbread with marg so I wouldn't make this with it either...but, your choice.
thanks angie. this is a recipe i'm planning to make. question: do you think i could separate the eggs and whisk the egg white so it's fluffier? and since that's extra volume, do you think i could reduce it by one egg? i always try to reduce the eggs and butter in my cakes.
Cold...but I did have it sitting on the counter for a tiny while as I got things ready. For shortbread you want to keep it cold but it can be a little difficult to cut into the flour if it's rock hard!
@Dudeifwhat another recipe I looked at substituted the crust for sugar cookie dough you might like that better

I wouldn't...I would make it as is and cut the squares smaller and just have one.
