I own an original harmony bass. It was my first bass which I learned on and made enough money to buy my second bass which was a Fender 1973 jazz bass. Third bass was a Ibanez road star ll. And finally my homerun bass was a 1970s Hofner bass. Still have them all, YEAH!
You really should put this through a bass amp to demo it. As it is now it just seems like a guitarist's afterthought, not the best way to market yourself to bassists.
This reissue seems good, but is quite overpriced. The look is wonderful. The improved tuners are a good idea, if inauthentic. Not so sure about the glued neck; bolt-ons are easier to service. Sound? Hard to tell: roundwond strings have no place on this instrument.
Had one in 1968 and loved it. Nobody else had one, and it was low priced, I think less than 2 or $300. Ran it through a Vox Essex bass amp, sometimes a Dual Showman or a Kustom with 2 15's.
The neck was fast and easy to play. I ended up stringing it with nylon flatwounds and then it was perfect.
I kept it until 1970, when some bastard stole it out of my VW Bus in San Francisco. I haven't thought about it in years, but now I want another one!
pointless review to compare it to an original, he's not even using flatwounds. i've got an original 1961 one and it shits all over what i can see of this here. don't spend $899 on one of these, you can pick up an original for half that price and its definitely worth the effort of finding one.
My first bass was a harmony just like this one. I learned and earned enough money to buy me a fender jazz 1973. Still have both of them with original parts.
I have an original h22, and it's simply amazing and does sound A LOT like an upright. Very powerful and bassy; just listen to some Small Faces or Spencer Davis Group stuff and you'll see what I mean.
Sounds good but not really like an upright. An upright has harmonic sound characteristics not present in this bass. I would say it sounds similar to an upright.
got some unnecessarily brutal, over-the-top comments here! what is wrong with you people?

If you care about selling this bass redo this review with a real bass amp and a real bass player. It's a classic and deserves better.

@kenomi13: Reality check -- if you can find any at "half that price", let me know! I WILL BUY ALL OF THEM!!!
An original H 22 in excellent condition will fetch $1200.00 to $1500.00.

That was pathetic. 1:27 compared to the guitars 4:14 review? They didn't even bother to put the bass into its respective amp.
What a load of shit.
