  • If we can, should we breathe like this all the time? And if we do deep breathing on a daily basis, how long will it take before we see noticeable changes in our body and mind?

  • @flouflis1a Not necessarily all the time. Just periodically throughout the day, particularly during period of stress or when the need for additional concentration is desired. You will see a noticeable difference almost immediately, with seconds actually.

  • Hello, ur recommended method of deep breathing directly contradicts that of Esther Gokhale (posture specialist). I was wondering if you could speak to that. It's hard to implement positive changes when specialist differ on what those changes should be, you know? Pls answer soon b/c obviously I need to know how to breathe rt now!

  • @MsFruitbasket In Esther's words: " Abdominal breathing as a practice is very valuable as it encourages deeper and more controlled breathing." She goes on to say that different breathing techniques are used for different situations. For stress reduction, as with meditation, we lean towards abdominal breathing. For posture and spinal alignment improvements, Esther promotes her method of rib cage breathing. Both they are not mutually exclusive of one another. Both can be used by a person.

  • @nightwavesleep Thank you so much Dr. Harden for your reply. I understood you to be recommending "abdominal breathing" as a regular practice while sitting in front of my computer working, referring to this as "proper breathing." On the other hand, according to Gokhale during one of her workshops, which I saw on Google Books, proper breathing is the "chest beathing," which she says should be your "resting breath" and that abdominal breathing is reserved for strenuous activity, eg. running.

  • @nightwavesleep I practice deep breathing now while standing, but I have employed, as well as I know how, Gokhale's breathing technique while I work at my desk. This is not a very natural breath for me but I have postural concerns. Also, Gokhale said that the abdominal breathing puts unwanted pressure on your intestines/lower organs. I am not saying that both cannot be used, but I do consider that the breathing tech's you and she recommend for sitting/resting oppose each other and i'm wondering

  • @nightwavesleep . . .which school of thought is more scientifically sound and/or which one I would be best served in practicing. Anyway, I thank you for your time in answering my question.

  • Thanks sharing...

  • ive been deep breathing all day at work and its been giving me an amazing energetic feeling and its like a high in a non drowsy way.... some one told me that the body can only take in the same amount of oxygen so said its all in my head

the the feeling of well being speaks for it self... with qigong Chinese breathing they say that its the bad stuff ya berating out that is part of the health benefit

  • How sad that most people do not know the correct way to breathe!
