The reason why this is so good is because they didn't edit in all the sounds and special effects after the fact and adjust sound levels to sound "cool". They used blanks (or something similar) to get LOUD gunshots, not like what 99% of action movies these days have. Notice how the sound actually echoes off of buildings. They did this right, and it's believable as hell.
