Doesn't sound perfect. But this song isn't about perfection, and he totally gets the spirit of it. WIth or without heroin, maybe it helps a bit. It's all about emotions. I'm a HUGE Stevie Nicks fan, and a HUGE John Frusciante, and my two favorite versions of Landslide are those one that were done in 77/79, when Stevie was on drugs, and this one, when John is on drugs too. Go figure... Gives me chills.
Not this one. I don't think Bob was even there that night (He might have been i'm not sure). The main one on youtube is Bob Forrest singing and John playing guitar, but he did this song on his own in the Viper Room in 97.
His voice is so sad. I'm glad he as able to keep all the emotion like this in his voice even though his technique is a lot cleaner and stronger today.
He definitely changes the lyrics to be "Oh river in the sky..." the question is whether it is River with a capital R or not. That would be a rare Frusciante shout out to Phoenix.
you can hear his talent here, messy & raw & drugged to the eyeballs but the real john shines through, how he even left his apartment in the state he was in is beyond me!!thank the lord he is back and better than ever its a musical miracle!
i thought he was going to die also, its so fucking amazing and beautiful how he has turned his life around. all of his work is so pure and raw, his music is so moving.
One of the best songs of the evening i was there and cried all the way home i just knew he was gonna die were all so lucky he didnt hes a real GENIUS and i love him.
:sigh: I love him. I'm glad he's not like this anymore, I don't think I could listen to album after album of him being drugged up, but I'm enjoying this Viper room show a lot. This cover reminds me of one day when I was really pissed off at a guy and sang along to the Animals "House of the Rising Sun" and "We've Got to Get out of this place" and other hits of theirs all loud and out of tune!
Doesn't sound at all like Fleetwood Mac's Stevie Nicks does it? And no it's not a Smashing Pumpkin's song, or a Dixie Chicks song. It was written by Stevie Nicks.
He´s not a Hedrix..he´s John...this song is great...it´s not like the original song, but that makes it soo great,it shows him and how he feels...john´s cool...and in bssm-time really hot
i'm not sure if i like this cover; some of his musical work during this point in his life is a little off since he was on the downside of his heroin addiction. i'm so happy he's off heroin though. it would be so disappointing to have lost such a tremendous talent.
Just like the guy below me says, this video is definetly haunting, from 1.00 to 1.12 and then in numerous other parts, its hard to tell if his getting into it or if he is affected. Either way he was in a bad state back then, both appearance and musically.
A side of him that is almost scary to hear.
Interesting though.
You've posted some good videos Jeremy, keep it up man

Love John Frusciante to death but he should stick to playing guitar lol. horrible singing but if nothing else you can feel the emotion in his voice.
Yeah yeah i know all the diehards are gonna defend him but I call em like i see em. Dude just can't sing very well.
RedceLL1978 3 years ago
Yep, he wasn't the best singer back then. He is a pretty good singer now-a-days, but for me, his old stuff like this is what i really like about him.
Its just raw, and has a lot of emotion in it.
But to the casual fan, this will most likely be a turn off.

I saw a comment on youtube that put this perfectly, IMO.
They said: "Its (his voice) is an aquired taste, but once you have it, it hooks you for life". So true!

sounds like he says "river in the sky" instead of "mirror"... or at least i'd like to think so. rip river.

This is the best "heroin/water" version of the song you'll ever hear, better than Fleetwood Mac if they did it on heroin.
