The Montreal Canadiens name speaks for itself. The Green Bay Packers were named after meat packers, the Minnesota Vikings, Pittsburgh Steelers, Houston Texans, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Dallas Cowboys, New England Patriots, Washington Redskins... All of these names come from groups of people and people are nothing but proud of those names. Hopefully the Sioux community can understand how much pride and hope this name give us and allow us to keep it.

I am a student at UND and from my point of view most students have nothing but pride in the name. We go to games and cheer for our team but we have respect for the community from which the name comes from. We should not give up this fight and let the name be changed. If the Fighting Sioux must change their names because of its ties to a commuity then what about the rest of the professional teams? The Chicago Blackhawks were name after a chief Indian of the Sauk American Indian tribe...
