It does nothnig in terms of transparency, the issue with transparency is the bidding / selection process, that has nothing to do with open source, the companies that provide the service are still private companies (i.e. - acquia).
Furthermore there is no evidence open source is more secure than closed source nor is it nessecarily cheaper, you are teh queen of misinformation,.
Too many conservatives subscribers, I agree that open source is a good STEP towards transparency. We are FAR from that in Canada.
If the gov't has done something positive, then applaud. If they screwed-up then hold them accountable. You don't consistently HATE on them because they are conservative or liberal (McCain or Obama). It is these type of bias, subjective, superficial and partisan viewpoints that screws-up democracy.
Before the limited concerns of the Corporate world UNDERSTOOD THE NET, we simply viewed our computational language to be open to any and all that could say hello.
Today, the truth is there are many interNets... Many of which you will NEVER KNOW OF, the one we collectively use is but one of the many. With this understanding lets us call the potential communication network the MultiNet.
the MultitNet is beyond the control of Government.
If this one ends, we will simply start another:-)
Obama can't even tell the truth about his past. Every time he opens his mouth, bullshit comes spewing out. What a fricken joke. Obama hates America and Americans, and is trying his hardest to destroy it.
It's such a turn-on to see a chick this HOT talk about computer languages!- lol. She makes me wanna drop some 'drooples' on a platform ya know what I'm saying...Plus she looks soo yummy in that Top!. I think she said Obama and I didn't wanna Yack....that's the power of Shelly Roche.
Does open source mean open transparency and disclosure? Sure Obama might welcome developers to innovate and evolve technology in the Whitehouse, but to what end? Is he getting free tech support for his own agenda, or is the technology being developed for the public good? Those are my questions.
Open source doesn't suck. There is a lot of open source programs that are good like Open Office. Open Office is a fantastic program. Even closed sourced programs are free, and good too. I use only free programs on my windows. It's the testament to the freest market of any in this economy, though obviously not completely free, but darn pretty close.
yay... 2nd good thing ive heard about the obama admin. other 1 being,of course, telling the dea to respect state laws...aka stop raiding medical marijuana dispensaries
What on earth does an open source platform have to do with transparency in the government? It's not like the content was opened up; some server somewhere is now running a different set of binaries. Woot. I write open source software, and I'm all for it, but this doesn't open up the government.
Agreed, exactly what I was going to say. Sorry Shelly.. I normally find your vids informative, but not sure what the benefit of this is beyond a tech-side toy.
I'm definitely not saying Open Source = transparency on it's own - I just think/hope switching to OS implies they could be more open to things like Open Data etc in the future (as they've promised...).
Will they actually do anything important with it? Probably not. But gotta give a little positive reinforcement now and then when they do something right ;)
I don't understand how open source server software would lead to open data. The open source truecrypt encryption program is probably the best tool to lock data up. Does Drupal have some standards compliant API for grabbing site content?

Wow, so much white light in this video. You should change the background to black or dark gray so you are framed better in the light.

Only if they mount cctv in every room so we see how our tax dollars are being spent. And then let them live like we will soon be doing.
Same with health care, any elected official and goverment employee gets same policy we are forced to live with.

The Flu Shot is just how bad the government would handle our Health Care. They can't get 1simple thing right.
This government is broken and we have to face those money grubbing bandits before we are all sitting on the street.

If impeachment is not sending a message then please tell us your plan. We need one today not yesterday.

Drupal is actually a lacking platform.
Naturally the Gov'd choose a bottom runner. It's also pretty cold not to give footer credit to Drupal on the site.
Saving money? If the Gov is paying their web-heads less I'll eat my redhat!
And just how would using open source make the Gov any more transparent?

Open source can be non-free too.
And the concept doesn't suck, the concept of closed source sucks. State patents, monopolies, dependencies, stagnation, etc.
