@ClangerSchmoo Well, you can always learn coding and start coding the perfect snes emu on your own. Snes hardware is really complicated to emulate. Neo Geo was easier because it uses a 68000 cpu and a Z80, and for both cpus there is a lot of information available.
About the halfway cut off menu mentioned in my previous comment, it's also in your vid. See the missile icon at the top with the count during gameplay? Well, the icon is only there halfway. Also, the map at the top-right corner is incomplete. What's with this?
The screen is not scaled at all in v0.5 Beta, so you can't fit the entire screen on the DS at once. v0.6 has scaling, in the Options menu somewhere. You can manually change the graphics layers in the Advanced - GFX menu (or just use the arrow keys in the Options menu until that particular combination comes up). I forgot if you can fix the "save game" textbox, to be honest.
Hey dude, I got the new 0.6 alpha version of Snemulds and I was trying to play Super Metroid, but sometimes the energy bar and missle count weren't visible, and when I fought Ridley the whole screen was black except for Samus and Ridley's sprites. Also, the map screen is all black when I open it up. Could you help me?
To fix the map, go into Advanced - GFX Config - change the "BG3 Block Priority" setting. You'll have to switch to graphics settings of 2031 for some bosses, but you're right in that this sometimes makes the energy bar invisible. I haven't found a fix for that yet.
Thanks, but how do you change the graphics to 2031? For me it's BG1, BG2, etc, and when I change it it goes frin 0 to 1 or 0 to 10. Also, when I enable Auto Layering (The box with the X in it) The map works, but some background sprites are screwed. Oh yeah, when Text appears (Like say when you have to choose if you want to save or not) I can't see any words, nor black box. And why is the top screen menu (With the menu and mini map, missile count,) halfway cut off? Could ya gimme some more help?
Hi, im using this exact version and chrono trigger still has clicky sound issues and text overlapping itself and changing wierd colors. How did you manage to fix this?
The sound isn't perfect, but having snemul.cfg on the root of your card helps immensely. The text is indeed screwed up. Whenever I can't read it, I just go to the GFX Config menu and tap the Fix area. This usually fixes it, though text in battle areas tends to always be gray.
Ah, sorry about that, I'm not good at detecting sarcasm on the Internet. Reformatting is pretty simple, just insert it in your card reader, open up My Computer, right-click the drive that's assigned to your card, and click Format. Depending on your device, you'll want either FAT16 or FAT32. This will get rid of most filesystem issues, but it WILL ERASE everything on your card.
Or you could try it out yourself so you know what to do for other games that people haven't tried playing yet...
Regardless, check the PHWiki like I said earlier, and if the text screws up go into the GFX Config screen and tap the Fix area. I got most text boxes working fine with this method when playing briefly last night.
Also, if I use Aura Swirl, the whole game gets screwed up cos the whole screen gets white and you can't do anything anymore, I think the Emu is not that good on an R4 DS... at least it seems so.
It functions identically on all devices. It just doesn't have the greatest compatibility, that's all. Rather than disabling layers, try simply reordering them in the Options menu. Just tinker with the various settings to see what works and what doesn't.
Well, some friends have an R4 DS and also tried to play Chrono Trigger, but it didn't work as well as you showed in your video, can you tell me some settings you have to enable/disable?
Go to wiki . pocketheaven . com and search for "SNEmulDS Compatibility List" to find the settings I used. The sound issues are fixed by making sure snemul.cfg is on the root of your card, and graphics can be tinkered with to get better results.
I'm using a slot-2 Supercard miniSD. However, pretty much any device will work fine with SNEmulDS. Slot-1 devices tend to be easier to use, and SNEmulDS should function the same on those.
Patch SNEmulDS.nds with DLDI using the DLDIrc program. Put your games in a folder called "SNES". Put snemul.cfg on the root and the patched SNEmulDS.nds anywhere.
Hey, I had the snemulds 0.4 and it worked ok but it was kinda glitchy, so i downloaded the new version. I put the 'games' in the a snes folder in the directory of my card, but the emulator says that it cannot find any 'games'. please help
Patch SNEmulDS.nds with the DLDI file for your device so it can understand how to talk with your filesystem. I recommend downloading and installing "DLDIrc" in order to do this, as it's quick and easy. After installation, just right-click the .nds file and select the new patching option that appears.
Also make sure you put snemul.cfg on the root of your card.
Yup, SNEmulDS will work just fine on an R4. In fact, you can actually get a version of the emulator pre-patched for the R4 from the main site. Also, the R4 is actually the exact same thing as the M3 Simply, so just go for whichever one is cheaper.
If you take a screenshot of the levels with inverted colors in an emulator, and then use an image editor to invert the colors again, the resulting image has correct coloring. I did it a while ago in Snezziboy on Visualboy Advance. So maybe there could be a hack to invert the colors only in those levels with messed up colors. However, my knowledge of programming is very premature and I may be way off. This would probably cut the speed in half at the least. Any thoughts?
Have you actually beaten Chrono Trigger on SnemulDS, DanTheManMS? I thought it had memory limitations that prevented the game from loading properly. Like freezes and such.
I haven't played with it too much, no. I know in SnezziDS there were a couple of freeze points, but I don't know if they plague SNEmulDS as well. With finals coming up in the next week, I haven't had too much time for extensive testing.
However, even though the rom is 4 MB in size, SNEmulDS uses a paging system that calls up 1-2 MB chunks of the game into RAM as it needs it, so it's possible to play the game without requiring a device with GBA compatibility like SnezziDS does.
Unfortunately, it appears that they do. I only tested Glimmer's Galleon, and while it's still entirely playable when you change the layer priorities, the colors are inverted.
I haven't played Super Metroid all that much actually, so I've never gotten to that part of the game. If you can supply a .srm save file, I can attempt to work with it, but you did say you lost the save. =/
This is a bit of a late reply, but I played Super Metroid quite a bit during a vacation once. The X-ray scope is a bit iffy. Sometimes you have to change the layer priorities for it to work, and sometimes it works fine with the default values.
Nice video! I wish i could get a m3 simply, but my family has financial problems right now and my money is tied up. Until i get one I have only your videos to let me know what's going on with SnemulDS. Chrono Trigger works amazingly well with almost perfect sound! And that Mode7 in Axelay is great! If you keep on with the videos, it would be cool to see Final Fantasy IV, V, and VI. Did they improve in sound quality as well? Well, awesome job to your videos. Peace out!
I haven't really played the FF games for the SNES, though I've heard they still have a few issues. I'll check it out and include them in the next video if possible.
I guess I'll stick with the psp

This is a terrible emulator. The guy who wrote it is a complete fucking shmuck.
We've got a Neo Geo emulator running at 60 frames per second, but you can't get a emulator running Final Fantasy 4 for the SNES?
