  • This is so beautiful! She's amazing. Had the pleasure meeting her some years ago, at Tyne Cot Cemetery. We will remember them.

  • Hayley's performance is never less than the best of the best!

  • This is wow awesome , Hayley is truly talented she can sing everything she wants to. Love her voice , She is nr 1

  • I looooooooooove Hayley's music! She's an awesome artist and maintains a great image with her sweet disposition and professionalism.

  • The earliest published version has "condemn", although I have heard both used commonly. What cannot be denied is that this is an extremely beautiful setting of Lawrence Binion's poem, sung most beautifully!

  • She is just amazing full of talent. this song is so pretty but Hayley do it even beautiful.. Congrats girl for you wonderful voice and interpretation.

  • Beautiful, no doubt. Yet, fallen for the sake of what? It's important to think about this issue, in order to prevent, for ever, human disasters and the sacrifice of so many brave men and so great talents for the sake of human madness.

  • wow i love this song! Haley has such a great voice!

  • What a talent!! From little old New Zealand ,where no matter where you come from when god touches you then you can share this for everyone!! Nice one!!High prase for the British regament.

  • what is the meaning of the drums? why do they have to be placed there?

  • @Arnetsew It is a tradition going back for centuries that soldiers in the field, without recourse to their chapels or churches on Sunday, would lay their drums neatly, consecrate them by laying their standards on them, and use them as an altar.

  • I'm in love with her voice. That was definitely one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.

  • Very moving arrangement of very familiar words.

Love the comments below...you've said it all !!!!!

Who could have sung this but Hayley ?

  • Very moving, Hayley's voice is magnificent

  • For the Fallen by Karl Jenkins is on the new special edition EMI CD of The Armed Man. There’s info on Boosey dot com / Jenkins

  • @7191hawkes In case anyone is wondering, I am happy to leave your comment on display as it's directly relevant to this performance. I have added a note about its general availability on CD to the end of the uploader comments.

  • Solemn musical remembrance to those who fought for our freedom.

  • She is never less than wonderful. Long may her special relationship with the Royal British Legion continue.

  • Hayley! She is The Queen!

  • majestic!!!

  • Quelle merveilleuse interprétation ! Hayley nous manque tellement !

    Vivement son nouvel album !

  • this is as boring to watch as it was to play.not karl's best work

  • Just as moved now as i was watching it last night...so beautiful.

    Thanks for posting.x

  • There is a minor typo in the video description. It's 'condemn', not 'contemn'.

  • @Medeasbiggestfan The word 'contemn' is correct, meaning 'being looked down'. Please look up the dictionary if you've any doubt.

  • @ngfsfpl

I know 'contemn' is a word, but the word sung by Ms. Westenra is clearly 'condemn'.

  • @Medeasbiggestfan I carefully listen to what you have mentioned and am very sure Ms. Westenra is singing 'contemn' and not 'condemn'. It is in the part of the song where she has had to sing in very high notes. Please be not so much picky, thanks. Period.

  • @ngfsfpl

I just check Wikipedia and there is appearently a debate about whether the correct word in the poem is 'condemn' or 'contemn'. Actually, both work.

  • @Medeasbiggestfan As others have said, there is some debate about condemn/contemn. I am currently leaning towards "condemn" but I will not change it until I am sure. We may have to ask Hayley (or Karl Jenkins!) in due course what she actually sang...

  • @hwivid

I originally thought that 'condemn' was the word in the poem and to my ear it sounded like Ms. Westenra sings 'condemn', making me think it was a typo in the video description. However, as there is a debate about the word in the poem and that some people hear 'contemn', I think it's alright to leave it.

Thanks for uploading. It literally brought a tear to my eye when I watched it last night.

  • @hwivid After further investigation and a discussion in the HWI forum, I have now amended "contemn" to "condemn", which is probably what Hayley sang.

  • @Medeasbiggestfan 'Contemn' is the old English spelling and appears spelled that way in the 1611 publication of the Holy Bible.

  • @musigirl1986

But it sounds like she sings 'condemn'.

  • Beautiful. Just beautiful.

  • Amazing performance...I loved it!! :-)

  • It was beautiful and still brings a lump to my throat.

    Thanks for [posting.

  • This is one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard. Very moving. Hayley's performance was perfect - the high note at 3:22! Bernard Cribbins delivered his speech with such excellent expression. I'm a very proud Hayley fan right now!
