@uinclang WoO stands for Werk ohne Opus (The German for Work without Opus). It just so happens that the German words happen to start with the same letters.
I heard Kissin play this piece in Amsterdam Concertgebouw (2007 or so). I will cherish it in my memory as one of the strongest performances I ever heard.
he is such a genious....watch his face at 2:10..he really feels the music..he has such a power and energy..the interpretation of the variations was just brilliant. im speechless.
perahia owns this variations.. kissin's rendition is pretty boring to me, but i have to admit that i generally don't like his pianism, whether in studio or live
Just so that you know, kissin is my favorite over all (along with duchable and few others) but I just noticed he screwed this one, but is overall a beautiful performance !!!!
If ywe had to critize every "slight" mistakes of Rubinstein there would be no ending to it......
we are all human we shouldn't be critisicing others for slight mistakes. Sure, a BIG mess up is worth critising but its not as if he mucked up the whole piece. Overall this was an outstanding performance. It's ridiculous to say "Oh he made blahblah mistakes somewhere etc.etc." . What is important is that whether he conveys music and communicates with his audience through his music.
increible! is very diferent that gould performance! but is the best! I think that gould plays the beeter variation but Is a very interesting execution by kissin! BRavo!
There were just two mistakes, and you've pointed them. But this is a performance, the two casual mistakes (this last one wasn't exacly a B instead of C, but a little dash) don't resume the whole work of interpretation and execution. What do you add commenting a mistake? Nothing. Just to comment mistakes is as easy as stupid and inconvenient.
He's one of the greatest pianists on the planet, and the performance is phenomenal. I never said otherwise, you just assumed otherwise because you're overly sensitive. And Kissin didn't "brush" the B, he lands on it with all his force. I mean, are you fucking kidding me? Watch it again genius.
beethoven & liszt. my favorites :)

@0:40, ALL of my teachers would kill me if I played with hand-shapes like that. Though, they would LOVE me if I PLAYED like that!

If I am correct there is a mistake in the name: the variations are not Op 32; these are the 32 Variations WoOp 80 (Without Opus 80)

If Kissin keeps improving at the pace that he's progressing at, he will be the greatest pianist that ever lived.

Great performance overall, but still Kissin can be considered as only the apprentice compared to Gilels.
musiccritic1910 2 years ago
That's true! Kissin is still too far away from Gilels.

1:21 = landing on B instead of C as the final note of a whole variation? Yikes that HAS to suck...
Phenomenal performance despite some of the largest possible mistakes...

And this is the largest possible inconvenient comment someone could make.
