I like zen and did zazen practice before in Montreal in the late 80's. Too much Family Feud tv shows got me pissed off one day so i went to a Religion Conference one afternoon and picked the weirdest guy there, Albert Low, a Zen master, which i didn't have a clue what Zen was. I can tell everyone, that a guy doesn't have to worship a Deity or God... in the traditional Abrahamic ways to gain peace of mind/body, nor practice martial arts. Of course, respect for everyone around along with
i hate to be nit picky, but you're using the wrong term to describe being overly aware. I agree it is most likely Zanshin you are looking for. Mushin is mind of no mind. your body, mind, and soul become one. you focus on nothing therefore focusing on everything. Something to better help your would be looking into mizu no kokoro a phrase often used to describe mushin. Also, your history is a tad off too. you must realize the seperation of zen buddhism and the already existent japanese culture
@JamesJTraitz James, I also expected that but I could't locate a numerical order in the right tabs column, all of them are mixed up. Wouldnt it be better say if you title these Mu-shin series as "Mushin, -1", "Mushin-2", etc. (if there are 36 of them as you mentioned) Thanks for your work!
The zen warrior would meditate on losing his mind into infinity, this universal mind, this infinite emptiness as he precieved it to be [a "core belief"]& could achieve his power only thru his unselfishness as to give glory to his king or worldly kingdom ridding hisself totally of his "self importance". So long as you think of self you will live in a negative world.
Zen wasn't a part of martial arts in Japan until the edo period.
Mostly noted through the (yagu) shinkage ryu.
Most of the zen warrior is something that has more to do with china (chan buddhism) or later hollywood in the way it is presented through the watered down New Age versions.
At last authentic teacher. This system is not difficult to learn.............. but takes practice to sustain in " demanding situations," if you must see them as demanding! This teaching is the highest teaching, that all other teachings manifest from. Power to you J.J.
It is not easy; the aim is to make conscious effort(work) to 'self-remember' and to lose self-importance and bear the unpleasant manifestations of others without reacting 'wounded' or 'hurt' nor "long-suffering" over it!
With Meditation, Once able to quiet the Mind you begin the path of Dissolving the Ego. While awake but asleep spiritually the Mind feeds the Ego just enough energy to keep it happy. But if ur energy rises enough the Ego crumbles and the self falls away. You become part of the Intelligence that permeates through all things. However, the Ego will not go quietly. It will distract, Sabotage and do whatever it can to keep you attached to this physical manifestation and away from ur true path
@OpenMind00 i TOTALLY AGREE . what is wrong with people who deny meditation is that they didn't try it and it takes time ... I've gotten myself into the deep meditation when you focus on breathing and than you slowly un - focus the breathing and bring it to the third eye. then I feel a pressure point between my eyebrows and when I breathe in it comes toghether and when I breathe out it widens.after that I fall deep and don't even know I am breathing and I see "colors" playing behind my eye lids
@OpenMind00 when focus on breath I feel this narrowing (with breath in) and widening (with breath out) all over my body but when focus on third eye is "engaged" I feel it only in my third eye. the breath awarenes is trying to break into this stillnes you are trying to achieve but it takes time and "practise" to hold it there. when achieved I feel tingly sensation every few "minutes" and I is awesom. I used to smoke pot and I quit smoking for this sensation is better and you cant even compare it!
so double attention is just useing all of your senses at once and there is also a certain attraction to being almost completly not aware of your surrondings and being completly inside your mind and doing nothing but thinking
I Reckon you need to work on your presentation skills. your are thinking about the video camera and not about what you believe. it comes out in your presentation. let go of the thought of double attention (thinking about what you look like and what your saying) and just talk to the camera like it's someone you know.
wow every1s usin youtube now.. but r use what u got but dont try too hard :P i mean, how did u find this in the first place... and stop complicatiin things lol
Unless we learn the magnitude of who we really are we will continue to live mechanically,as machines, governed by enumeral outside influences,as we "flitter-flutter" through life.We are to wake up to the realization that we are, each of us,co-creators! We must become conscious co-creators to further grow in consciousness
therefore perception is infinite, so let it go. stop trying to make reality a way of seeing reality; that escapes the point innately present. Yes, awareness is essential, and yes to discover that is cute, but if you direct that energy, you are diminishing it vastly, killing it in deed.
What james says is obvious and deadheaded, "attentiveness is the key to the experience of consciousness." But 'tis far from "the key to the universe", every way of perceiving reality is generated by the willful mind.
Are ye all conversing over an ancient, dated opinion, a lie? Jokes ye are, discover things for yer selves instead of accepting another's truth, yer like Christomuslembhudisthindus zombies.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.I have a page on MySpace where I exchange comments and blogs with others.Feel free to contact me there also.Thanks. Jim
You sir are wrong. What you are speaking of is Zanshin: total awareness of everything around you.
Mushin is "empty mind." Mushin is more than concentration or a feeling of certainty. It is the state of 'not thinking' that allows a perfect reaction to any situation as shown by master martial artists and swordsmen throughout history.
Before you post a video you may want to make sure you're using the correct word.

WHAT THIS MAN WANT'S TO SAY IS THAT YOU SHOULD WAKE UP AND BE AN OBSERVERER AND NOT A CONSTANT ACTOR!

There are so many mistakes in what you present as mushin 無心 here. maybe it is time to go sit in a zen temple rather than lecturing.
Please don't spread this misconception around anymore...
or at least do your time in a proper 'budojo' or a 'zen-dojo' under a proper teacher.
be well

Forgiveness and sharing do much to negate the necessity of the egoic self.

You'd do well to read Takuan Sohos letters to Yagu.
Atleast study the subject.

"There is no Zanshin without mushin"...
Zanshin translates to remaining mind / spirit and
is very similar
to our concept of remaining alert after the last hit, kick etc.
It doesn't depend on mushin...
Zen traditionally was not part of the Japanese warrior studies.
It didn't enter them until the edo period...
Sorry to say this but there are to many things that
are mixed up this clip...

It is you who are confused. There is no true Zanshin without Mu-Shin
JamesJTraitz 4 years ago
but there is there is simply active and passive mushin.
The active kind as in martial arts used in combination with external zanshin.
And the passive kind used in meditation with the internal form of zanshin.

No disagreement
