Just start working on it again with better software, GameMaker 8, and Lua script (NEVER use Java).

@proceo12 I don't get what you're saying. My box is checked on my sprites and the running is fine. All of it's sprites are. There is no tripping, skipping, and the character doesn't get stuck within the ground.
